Sunshine Blogger Award #11-12

July 5, 2018

Thank you so much to Kathy and Zoe for nominating me! You can view my previous Sunshine Blogger Award posts here, here, and here.

TO ACCEPT THIS AWARD, I MUST:
  • Thank the person(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or on your blog.

KATHY’S QUESTIONS:

1. What are you hoping authors change or finally include in their books for the rest of 2018?
I want to see a lot more own-voice rep for groups that are still getting almost no positive rep, like fat rep, POC rep, disability rep, and mental illnesses that go beyond just the basic anxiety-and/or-depression rep we get most often right now.
2. What trope do you love/hate?
I’m not big on insta-love. Insta-lust is fine, insta-attraction is fine, but I struggle to see couples that are ready to marry and have children within 36 hours of meeting.
3. Which OTP is your favorite? Or which OTP are you hoping will sail?
My favorite OTP is probably a toss-up between Feysand, Rhylucard, or Damen/Laurent.
4. What book of 2018 has disappointed you?
Bright We Burn
by Kiersten White. I haven’t even written my review yet because I’m just so sad about it.
5. Which villain would you kiss, marry, kill?
Okay, let me think… I’d kiss Amarantha, marry Holland (does he count?), and kill Umbridge.
6. What would you like to see changed or fixed in the blogging community?
The competition. I constantly see someone post about how sad they were to be turned down for an ARC, only for someone else to comment saying, “Oh, I got that one!” and things like that. It’s usually very passive-aggressive and subtle, but it’s there, and it’s ugly.
7. Which character would you want to rewrite?
Ron Weasley. I’ve never been a fan, sorry.
8. Which author are you dying to get a signature from?
Joe Hill, for sure. I don’t have anything signed by him.
9. Do you think you should judge a book without reading it (especially if you’ve heard bad things about it)?
It depends on the scenario, but unpopular opinion here: I think it is 100% acceptable to write off a book if you have read actual excerpts, in context, that are intensely problematic and harmful. That said, without excerpts in context, it’s probably better to just say “I’m not interested.”
10. What books are you anticipating the most for the next few months?
City of Ghosts
by Victoria Schwab is probably my #1 most anticipated release of the next few months.
11. Which characters would you love to see get in a fight? Who do you think would win?
I’d love to see Mia Corvere and Lila Bard duke it out. They’re both so fast and clever that I think it’d be very evenly matched, and I’m not sure what would win out: shadows, or magic?

ZOE’S QUESTIONS:

1. What’s your favorite movie adaptation of a book?
The Fault in Our Stars, maybe? It’s the only JG book I like, and I really loved the film adaptation.
2. Do you like ebooks/kindles/audiobooks, or would you rather have the physical book in your hand?
I honestly love all of the above. I do like having physical copies of books, but sometimes it’s nice to just lay in bed in the dark and read on my kindle or my phone or iPad.
3. How many books are in your TBR list?
My Goodreads TBR shelf is at 939 currently; my personal, owned TBR is at 488.
4. Do you have a favorite quote from a book? Something that inspires you?
I have a lot, but the most inspiring will probably always be from The Perks of Being a Wallflower: “We accept the love we think we deserve.” That quote has carried me through quite a few dark times and always reminds me that I have to take care of myself.
5. What’s the first book you remember reading/having read to you?
The first book I remember reading was one of those Little Golden Books about a puppy.
6. What’s your favorite winter food/drink/treat?
Food: my fiance’s chicken soup. Drink: pumpkin spice coffee or gingerbread coffee. Treat: pumpkin pie.
7. How do you organize your books (if at all)? By author? Color?
Okay, I have a weird system:

  • my top shelves make a rainbow (all genres, almost exclusively standalone titles, mostly contemporary)
  • several author-specific shelves (SJM, Leigh Bardugo, Jay Kristoff, Rick Riordan, Maggie Stiefvater, Marissa Meyer)
  • a “nostalgia” shelf (Paolini, Rowling, The Hunger Games)
  • a few “top TBR” shelves (no rhyme or reason besides being books I want to read very soon)
  • the rest is just kind of a mash-up right now

I’m planning on getting a new set of shelves in the next few months and creating a full TBR shelf, methinks.
8. Where’s your favorite place to read?
If I had my pick, when it’s nice out (read: cool and breezy), I like sitting on the porch, but usually I read in bed or at my desk.
9. Which fictional character would you love to be your best friend?
Cassian, Niklas Malikov, Lemon Fresh, or Blue Sargent.
10. Do you speak/read in any other languages besides English?
Nooooope.
11. What’s your favorite magical creature from Harry Potter?
Thestrals. ♥

    1. I had so much to say bout this and then your comment about Bright We Burn tore my little bookish heart into a million pieces ?
I love your very first answer so much! I crave seeing more of all of these in books. As someone with chronic illness and disability I am constantly like, where are all of the effing relatable characters?! ?

      1. I’m sorry :'( I think I saw that you commented on my review, but I’m a bit behind on comments so I’ll try to reply to you there ASAP lol.
Thank you! Right?! We need more rep like that.

    1. Thank you so much for tagging me!! I am so excited for this. I love all your answers. You also asked a lot of great questions. Mine will be up tomorrow.

Say hello! ♥
