Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s theme is books that make me hungry, but it’s really rare that books make me hungry! Am I alone here? So…
I decided to go with a list of my favorite cookbooks! We cook a lot in our home (we’ve cooked every single meal every day for the last 6 months), so here are 10 of the ones that my spouse and I use most frequently, with a nod to my favorite recipe in each one, too! ♥
World of Warcraft: The Official Cookbook
I’m not as well-versed in WoW, but my spouse has been addicted since the mid-2000s (I think), so this was our first “fandom” cookbook and it totally sent us down the rabbit hole! We cook out of this constantly. My favorite recipe is the Steaming Chicken Soup, which we make at least once a month. |
|
Hearthstone: Innkeeper’s Tavern Cookbook
This is a tiny cookbook full of mostly drinks, desserts, and snacks, so we don’t actually reach for it as often as many of the others on this list, but it has my favorite cheesecake recipe ever: Priest of the Feast’s Cheesecake! ??? |
|
Overwatch: The Official Cookbook
Let’s just keep that Blizzard fan-train rollin’, eh… lmao. This cookbook is so FUN. It includes recipes for almost every hero currently in the game, and most of the recipes are actually paying homage to the part of the world that hero is from — so, for example, my two favorite recipes are Doomfist’s Jollof Rice and D.Va’s Hotteok! |
|
The Elder Scrolls: The Official Cookbook
Confession time… I’ve only ever played, like, maybe an hour of Skyrim? Sorry, I was more of a Fallout lover. ? But I’ll play it eventually, I swear! In the meantime, I’ll just be over here counting down the days till the next time we make the Snowberry Crostata recipe (it’s like a cranberry tart — SO GOOD!). |
|
Firefly: The Big Damn Cookbook
Oh, Firefly. Let me just mourn for a moment… *sigh* Okay, back to the point: not only is this book full of yummy recipes, it also features loads of beautiful hi-res images of my babies. ? My favorite in this one is River’s Hodgeberry Thumbprints, because who doesn’t love a good thumbprint cookie? |
|
A Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Companion Cookbook
If there’s one show that makes me hungry more than any other show (besides cooking shows, of course), it’s for sure GOT. The coolest thing about this book is that each recipe has a modern version and an “authentic”/medieval version. My favorite here has to be the Lemon Cakes, modern or otherwise. |
|
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook
I’ll be honest, a lot of this book’s appeal is sadly lost on me since I’m not up to date on Star Wars (I watched the originals many times as a kid, and that’s mostly it), but damn, it has some tasty noms, like the Fried Zuchii. |
|
The Bob’s Burgers Burger Book: Real Recipes for Joke Burgers
We got this book expecting it to be a joke, but it’s legit: tons of real, delicious recipes for the burgers Bob makes in the show, and each recipe even references which episode it’s from! I never knew there were so many ways to eat burgers, but my favorite is a fairly simple one: the Mission A-corn-plished Burger, featuring corn, queso, and fresh salsa ingredients. |
|
Binging with Babish: 100 Recipes Recreated from Your Favorite Movies and TV Shows
First, if you aren’t watching Andrew Rea’s Binging with Babish show on youtube, you’re missing out. This guy can cook, and his foods are all inspired by TV shows and movies! We haven’t experimented with enough of the recipes in this one yet, but we did use his Roast Turkey & Gravy recipes for a family holiday meal last year and it totally changed our lives. |
|
Witchcraft Cocktails: From Aphrodite’s Love Potion to Mercurial Grounding Elixir, 75 Seasonal Drinks Infused with Magic and Ritual
This book includes tons of drink recipes, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, but it also features a pretty hefty section explaining the mingling of alcohols with paganism and witchcraft. Plus, these drinks sound so tasty — I’m counting down the days until it’s cool enough out to justify enjoying The Prosperous Pumpkin by a bonfire! |
Do you have any favorite cookbooks, or even recipe sites you like?

September 1, 2020I didn’t know there are so many popular media-based cookbooks! I don’t really cook so I don’t own any cookbooks, but I keep seeing Snoop Dogg’s at the bookstore and always want a copy of it 😀

September 7, 2020Haha that sounds awesome!!

September 7, 2020It’s a good cookbook! I wish it was formatted a bit more nicely (I’m spoiled on cookbooks with lots of photos), but it has so many recipes. Thank you!

Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 7, 2020Thank you! Omg, same. ? Like we constantly talk about how ridiculous we feel for having bought the Star Wars cookbook when neither my spouse or I am a SW fan – though we don’t feel as bad now that my spouse is super into The Mandalorian (which I still need to watch!)

September 1, 2020Ah this is so cool! I got my friend a Game of Thrones spoof cookbook for Christmas one year, it was called Game of Scones and all the recipes were in some way themed around the show.

September 1, 2020Great list! It’s funny I own so many cookbooks… but rarely ever try anything out. You’ve inspired me to give it a try sometime 🙂
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 7, 2020I hope you find something new you love! 😀 Sometimes it’s the recipes we expect to like the least that end up being new favorites. It has definitely caused us to branch out in our food interests, too!

September 1, 2020Wow, I’m impressed that you cook so many meals yourself. That’s awesome! I’m a very lazy cook who relies on takeout WAY too much. I’ll have to check out some of these fun cookbooks.
Happy TTT!

September 1, 2020This fun list of cookbooks was totally not what I expected from your introductory paragraph! My husband and I cook all the time, but he only uses cookbooks for inspiration mostly, while I like to follow a recipe for anything more complicated than soup or salad. The only novelty cookbook I have is The Desperate Housewives Cookbook, which I got as a gift. There’s an amazing date-nut bread recipe in it that unfortunately I can’t use anymore because we have a gluten-free kitchen now, but I keep feeling that one day I might make it again so I’ve held onto the cookbook.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 7, 2020Oh no, I’m sorry you can’t make the recipe you love anymore! I hope you can have it again some time! We tend to tweak our recipes a lot but I love having them as a way to inspire us to try new things!

September 1, 2020There’s an Overwatch cookbook?!!
The only books that make me hungry are Six of Crows (waffles) and The Boy Who Steals Houses (brownies, waffles) and The Scorpio Races (November cakes) and Serpent and Dove (cinnamon scrolls)… hmmm… I mean, we all knew I liked cake, but I’ve never felt so seen before now!! ?
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 7, 2020Yessss! It’s so awesome haha.
Mm, waffles… ? I feel you.

September 2, 2020I bought the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge cookbook as a way to make up for not going to Disney World this fall to celebrate our five-year wedding anniversary. We’re excited to take a few days off in November to celebrate, and make some of these recipes!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 7, 2020Awww, that’s awesome! I’m sorry you couldn’t go to Disney but I’m glad you’re taking some time off to celebrate anyways! ♥

September 4, 2020I love Binging with Babish and I love that you’ve included his book – no one I know has even heard of him before! ? I’ve started to enjoy cooking a lot more recently and I’m always looking for some new dishes. Having them inspired/based on games/books/TV is even better!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 7, 2020His channel is so fun and I feel like I never hear anyone talk about him, either! I hope you’re having fun with your cooking! ♥
