T5W 06.07.17: Books For Your Hogwarts House

* Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme/challenge for book bloggers, hosted by Lainey and Sam. The goal is for bloggers to choose their top 5 picks for the week’s given challenge, and you can find out more over on Goodreads! *

This week’s Top 5 Wednesday challenge is to pick 5 books that match your Hogwarts house! I happen to be super excited about this week’s challenge, because I am a diehard Gryffindor. I was a child watching the first film (yes, I saw the first movie before I started reading the books – don’t hate me), so many years ago, when I said, “I know! I want to be in Gryffindor!” Of course, wanting to be in a house and actually being sorted into it are two separate things… but every test that I’ve taken, ever since (including Pottermore’s!), has placed me squarely in Gryffindor. ♡

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart

1. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Just a few days ago, I read the first book in the Percy Jackson series for the first time (review to come later this week!), and given that there are some serious similarities between PJ and HP, it’s probably no surprise that it occurred to me – the moment I started writing this blog post, no less – that Percy is a total Gryffindor. He’s brave, adventurous, and protective of his loved ones. I’m actually pretty sure Percy could’ve fit in just fine with some of our Gryffindor kids in the HP series.

2. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas

I know, I know, you guys are tired of hearing me talk about this series… but seriously, when I think of narrators and MCs who are just bona fide Gryffindor types, Feyre does come to mind. She’s fiercely protective, extremely brave, and has a genuinely good heart (as we see Under the Mountain, when – no spoilers – her required actions almost destroy her).

3. Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Truthfully, none of the main characters from the first book in The Illuminae Files really screamed Gryffindor at me (except maybe McNulty), but Gemina? Hanna fucking Donnelly. Badass, brave as hell, fighter extraordinaire, and clever without really being brilliant enough to belong in Ravenclaw.

4. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I mean, this one just felt obvious to me. Katniss is 100,000% Gryffindor in every possible way, the end.

5. Cinder by Marissa Meyer

This one was actually a bit of a stretch for me, but if I had to put Cinder in a house, I’d say Gryffindor. In fact, the entire storyline feels more Gryffindor-esque than anything to me (though Cress would totes be Hufflepuff).

This was a harder challenge to do than I expected it to be, but I’m pleased with my choices! What Harry Potter house are you in? What book fits your house the most to you? Feel free to leave links to your T5W posts in the comments, too!

  1. I’ve only ever watched the HP movies and never really had the intention of reading the books (oops) but my little cousins made me take the Pottermore test a couple of weeks ago and it placed me in Gryffindor so HEYA and loove this list ^^ I can’t wait to read Percy Jackson and Gemina!

  2. The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson are definitely perfect for Gryffindors – I completely agree. 🙂 Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous choices! ❤
