The “I Messed Up” Book Tag

July 30, 2017

First and foremost, my inner tag klepto has once more surfaced; alas, I was not tagged in this one. That said, the person who I’m stealing borrowing it from is Steph @ Stephanie’s Novel Fiction, and her post totally says anyone can tag themselves, so here we are!

A character appearance that you misread or imagined differently:

Bill Weasley! I pictured him as being similar to his siblings in that sort of casual, almost slightly “homely” look, if that makes sense? I don’t mean that as an insult to any of the younger Weasleys, but they look like normal, everyday people. Then, in Deathly Hallows Part 1, Domhnall Gleeson shows up looking all dapper and “pretty boy”-esque, and I was like, “… what.”

A character name that you’ve been pronouncing wrong:

Ze’ev. I was totally pronouncing it “Zee-eve”, but nope.

An overused trope that is your guilty pleasure:

Best friends falling in love. I mean, Jim and Pam were like, one of my first OTPs, so I guess it makes sense.

A cliche character type that you like better on screen than reading about:

The arrogant, cocky love interest. It can be cute on screen, but it often gets on my nerves in books.

A word/phrase you learned because of its use in a book:

Fascism. I will never forget the first time I used it out loud. I was maybe 13-14 years old, and I used the definition properly, but I pronounced it “face-schism” and my parents laughed forever.

Have you ever not read or completed a required-reading book for school?

In 9th grade, I was supposed to read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Didn’t happen.

Have you ever skipped (or wanted to) a chapter from the point of view of a character you weren’t interested in?

The last time I tried reading the first ASOIAF book, I kept skipping some chapters because BOOOORRRRIIIIIING.

Have you ever canceled social plans to read a book?

Probably! I don’t know if I’ve ever thought specifically, “Let me call and say that I’m sick because I can’t put this book down,” but I’m sure I’ve backed out of plans and then found myself happily camped out on the couch with a book all night more than once.

    1. I’ve definitely skipped chapters in ASOIAF! I just wanted to read from the Stark’s perspective, really. And a bit of Tyrion because he’s epic.

    1. My entire life just falls down around me when I find out I’ve been pronouncing a character’s name wrong for ages!! My standout one was finding out Matthias (from Six of Crows) was pronounced with a hard ‘t’ rather than a ‘th’ sound 😐

    1. I just saw you tagged yourself in this ? I love that you did!! I’m glad someone did ❤❤ Great answers! I’m always afraid I’m tagging you too much, lol….next time I’ll just go for it!

      1. Bahaha I’m the tag klepto! ?? Yes, always go for it! I don’t always get to them right away, but I bookmark every single tag that anyone tags me in under a folder on my browser and whenever I have an empty day on my blog, I grab one!

Say hello! ♥
