Diversity Spotlight Thursday #6

September 7, 2017

The goal of this meme is to take a moment every Thursday to highlight 3 diverse books: one from your TBR, one you read and enjoyed, and one that’s not yet released!

I want to give you guys an idea of the rep each book offers, but with books that are still on my TBR, I’ll have to make the best educated guesses I can. If I ever make an error or miss something, please let me know in a comment so I can fix it right away! Also, while I will try my best, I obviously cannot guarantee that any books listed for my “TBR picks” will be without problems, so please proceed with discretion!

1. TBR pick:

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe – Benjamin Alire Saenz

I know, I can’t believe I haven’t read this yet, either! Especially since it’s been sitting on my shelf since January… I digress. This book is about two very different teen boys who manage to find similarities, build a friendship, and learn about life together.

Reps: gay, Latinx

2. Book you enjoyed:

Spellbook of the Lost and Found – Moira Fowley-Doyle

If you haven’t read my review for this beauty, you can do so here, but seriously, I loved this book so much. It has great representation and a fantastically intricate plot of magical realism (which we all need more of in our lives, if you ask me). If this tells you anything, I enjoyed this book enough when I received an ARC of it that I ordered a copy of Moira’s other book, The Accident Season, which I cannot wait to dive into.

Reps: bisexual, lesbian, Indian

3. Unreleased title:

Fortitude Smashed – Taylor Brooke

(Releases Sep 21, 2017)

A few weeks ago, I somehow stumbled upon Taylor Brooke’s twitter account, where she had a recent tweet saying that her upcoming release was available for request on NetGalley. I believe her words were something along the lines of, “If you like enemies-to-lovers and soulmate tropes, here you go,” and naturally, I rushed to request a copy – and was approved! This is a story about an alternative universe in which scientists have figured out countdowns for when each individual will meet their respective soulmate, and two unlucky fellows realize that they are one another’s soulmates when they definitely don’t want to be.

Reps: gay, bi
