Miniature Monday #5

October 2, 2017

Every week, I’ll be posting a small batch of mini-reviews for graphic novels and the like!

This week, I’ll be reviewing four graphic novels (two ARCs and two released copies).

How to Be Perfectly Unhappy – The Oatmeal/Matthew Inman

A lot of people think Matthew Inman’s work is all fart jokes and dogs licking themselves, and I mean, that’s most of it, but sometimes, Matthew gets really freaking insightful and makes me contemplate the universe and my existence and such. This book is definitely one of those times.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Quiet Girl in a Noisy World: An Introvert’s Story – Debbie Tung

This book is the perfect portrayal of the life of an introvert, 100%. I related so freaking hard to every single thing that Debbie said, and I found myself snickering and nodding along to pretty much every other page. If you’re an introvert – especially one who doesn’t frequently find books you can relate to very well – I highly recommend picking up a copy of this when it releases!

The Walking Dead, Vol 01: Days Gone Bye – Robert Kirkman

I’ve been watching The Walking Dead for years on AMC (though I’m not up to date on the latest season), but this was my first time picking up the graphic novel series that inspired it. I’ve been told by so many people that the graphic novels are incredible, so I finally decided to see what the hype was about. Those people were not wrong, let me tell you!

I LOVED this graphic novel. The art is fantastic (and I was amazed by how similar some of the characters look to the actors/actresses who were cast to play them), and the story line is, as expected, really enjoyable and action-packed. There are a few differences from the show, as I assumed there would be, but without spoiling anything, I’ll just say that the ending of this graphic novel was so different and unexpected that it made my jaw drop.

Saga, Vol 4 – Brian K. Vaughan

Don’t get me wrong, the artwork in this graphic novel series is incredible and the character designs are bomb as hell. Everything feels incredibly unique and creative, and I love that. But something about the story just doesn’t really suck me in. I keep trying to love each volume as much as I loved volume 1, but it isn’t happening. I think I’ll give it one more volume, and if #5 isn’t 4+ stars for me, I’ll call it quits on this series (which sucks, because I feel like EVERYONE loves it!).

    1. I have the first Walking Dead, as well. I watched the first few seasons but it’s getting too harsh for me. I am very intrigued to see where the graphic novel goes, though. And Quiet Girl sounds perfect for me! Thanks for another TBR add lol

    1. omg the art in the introvert one looks so cuuuuuuute

    1. Oooh, I’m very excited to read Quiet Girl when it comes out. I’ve read a bit of TWD, but it was ages ago so I’ve been meaning to reread it!

Say hello! ♥
