Spooky Scary Book Tag

October 14, 2017

I grabbed this tag from Heather over at The Sassy Book Geek! Heather is literally one of my fave blogger friends, and is such a lovely and amazing human being, so please go give her a follow!

(Clever Fox is the original creator of this tag!)

1. What goes bump in the night? Name a book that has legitimately scared you while reading it.

27484112.jpgThis one has to go to Cold, Thin Air (Vol 1) by C.K. Walker. If you’ve ever frequented r/nosleep or r/creepypasta, you’ve probably read some of her work by one username or another. Her compilations are unedited, so beware of some grammatical errors and typos here and there (most common in Vol 3), but some of her stories legitimately spooked me, especially while reading them late at night after everyone else had fallen asleep.

By the way, if you have Kindle Unlimited, you can download this free here; otherwise, it’s only $2.99, which is still a steal.

2. Jack O’ Lanterns and Classic Costumes: A book you always reach for during Halloween time.

Believe it or not, I don’t have a book that I reach for every Halloween. I love horror books so much, and I’m always looking for new ones. Every fall is usually when new titles are being released in the genre, so I typically try to grab at least 2 or 3 new (or new to me) books every Halloween.

3. Black Cats and Magic Mirrors: A book you love that is laced with superstition and/or magic.

I’m going to go with a new favorite for this one – probably a book that at least a third of you are totally sick and tired of seeing on my blog, haha – but it is chock full of magic, as well as a bit of superstition and a lot of lore.

4. Witch’s Brew: Favorite witch character in any book/series.

How could I not pick Luna Lovegood? She’s sweet, zany, funny, smart, and even if her book portrayal wasn’t already so great, who could watch Evanna Lynch’s portrayal of her and not love her?

5. Ghouls and Ghosts: A book that still haunts you to this day (good or bad).

I’ll go with a “bad” one that still haunts me:

Damn, I honestly just hate this book so much. I think it is the worst series-ender I’ve ever read, and it left a bad taste in my mouth forever for Veronica’s writing. (In my defense, I already didn’t like Insurgent either, or the Four novellas, so it isn’t like I’m basing that opinion just off of this one book.) I feel like a lot of this book’s fans think that people only hate it because of the Big Surprise Ending, but that wasn’t my problem. I just thought it felt so rushed and sloppy, and I didn’t even recognize the Tris that I loved in the first book.

6. Haunted Graveyard: You’re all alone in a haunted graveyard, you get ONE book to give you comfort, which is it?

ACOMAF, hands down. It is one of the easiest books in the world for distracting myself with. I’ve read it front to back twice, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve picked it up and just read a few chapters at random when I’m having a bad day and need a pick-me-up. I know that might sound super cheesy, but what can I say? Rhysand’s good entertainment. 😛

7. The Undead: Favorite supernatural creatures to read about (i.e. vampires, zombies, werewolves, etc).

This is a really tough call to make, because I love books involving mythical/supernatural creatures so much! I honestly want to say ghosts, if we’re counting all paranormal entities, but I get the feeling that this question meant those of the inhuman (or partially human) variety, so I’ll say vampires.

(Unless I can choose Fae as my answer. The answer is always Fae.)

8. In the dead of night: Pick a book with a black cover.

This was the most black I could find on any cover in my collection. If you’re not familiar with this book, it’s a poetry collection, and the snippets of it that I’ve read made me fall in love with Amanda’s writing immediately. I’d been meaning to pick this one up for a while, and sweet Julie sent me a copy for my birthday, so I’ll be reading this one very soon!

I’m sorry I’m such a slacker when it comes to tagging people, and I swore I was going to get better about it, but… it’s currently 2:50am as I’m writing this, and I’m dead tired, so I’m going to let you lovely people tag yourselves when this uploads in the morning. <3
