Down the TBR Hole #6

November 12, 2017

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and is a super fun (and simultaneously productive) tag to help you whittle away at those never-ending TBRs! (By the way, you can click on the covers to go to the Goodreads listings!)

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 980 titles

Book 46:

17137808

Date added to shelf: Dec 20, 2014

This is book 2 in the Burned series, and is one of the very few Ellen Hopkins books I haven’t read, and I own a copy, so I’ll probably give it a try at some point.

I’ve been thinking a while on giving all of them a reread as an adult who’s more aware of the difference between diversity and exploitation, as when I think back on my beloved Hopkins books of my teens, I’m starting to wonder if she crosses that line sometimes.

The judgement: KEEP

Book 47:

81702

Date added to shelf: Dec 20, 2014

I love Bruce Coville’s books as a kid, but in hindsight, they don’t sound like anything I want to read as an adult.

The judgement: REMOVE

Book 48:

3712724

Date added to shelf: Dec 20, 2014

I’ve been meaning to reread this for years and years, since I DNFed it as a teen (I didn’t dislike it, it was just due back at the library before I finished it). Honestly, though, it’s lost a bit of its interest for me. I’ll leave this one up to you guys – convince me to keep it, or should I get rid of it?

The judgement: UNDETERMINED

I’m doing something a little different with the rest of this post. On Dec 20, 2014, I vaguely recall going to a thrift store where I found a massive stack of Goosebumps books for a quarter each or so, and I bought all of them, and evidently, I added them all to my TBR at the same time.

Books 49-61:

12555846050486573512560912556126833741248521347456227710813860169625575164125599125611

Date added to shelf: Dec 20, 2014

I don’t really have any interest in revisiting these books. I know I read most, if not all, of them as a kid, and they should probably stay in my memories.

The judgement: REMOVE

 REMOVAL PERCENTAGE THIS WEEK: 87.5%

Sorry for the weird numbers and percentages in this week’s post, haha! I’ll probably do 61-70 next week, just to get back on a “normal” counting basis.

    1. Lovely Bones was decent enough. The movie adaptation was pretty true to the novel. You can probably save some time and just watch the movie. It’s one of those cases where the movie isn’t worse than the book or better, just slightly different.

      1. Oooh, perfect! I actually saw the film adaptation a few years ago and enjoyed it well enough to watch once, but I didn’t LOVE it. So if the film is enough, I won’t feel bad about removing the book. 🙂 Thanks!

    1. The Lovely Bones is okay. I read it when I was in high school and loved it. But then I recently re-read it and I found myself only giving it 2 stars. It’s really character driven without a plot really. Normally I like character driven books but The Lovely Bones was just eh.
