Yule Bingo: December ’17 TBR

December 1, 2017

This month, my TBR is themed, because Life & Lit is hosting a Yule Bingo all month long! It’s a Potter-themed event (complete with games, trivia, and giveaways), but the books you read do not have to be HP-related. Here’s the bingo board:

WEASLEYS (family goals): The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
I’ve been meaning to read this book all year, and I’ve heard that Starr’s family is incredible!
(owned TBR)

HARRY (“chosen one” trope): Everless by Sara Holland
This one is just a wild guess because the plot makes it sound as though the MC is very much a “chosen one” character!
(eARC, buddy read)

DUMBLEDORE (wise mentor): The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
I’m also totally just guessing on this one fitting the square!
(eARC, buddy read)

MARAUDERS (book w/ a map): Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
I’ve been meaning to continue this trilogy ALL YEAR. (Literally. Since January.)
(owned TBR)

Slytherin:

SNAPE (morally grey character): Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat
My sweet friend Julie has been loving this series lately, and convinced me to add it to my December TBR, but it won’t come until the end of the month, as it’s on my Christmas list! She said it definitely has some morally grey action going on.
(owned TBR – or it will be after 12/25!)

VOLDEMORT (book w/ a villain): The Hollow Girl by Hillary Monahan
A book about a girl getting back at her rapist? Yeah, I’d definitely say there’s a villain here.
(eARC)

MALFOY (character you love to hate): Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
I read this one back in January, but I don’t remember some of the details, so I’ve decided to reread it with some friends before continuing to book 2!
(reread, buddy read)

NAGINI (book w/ a betrayal): Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher
The lovely Melanie sent me this book for my birthday, and I’ve been dying to read it! She says there’s some betrayal in it, which is perfect, since I was determined to fit it into my Yule TBR one way or another. 😉
(owned TBR)

Ravenclaw:

LUNA (lovable sidekick): Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire
This will be my first ever actual book of Seanan’s, but I read a short story by her in November and adored it, so I honestly have no doubts that I’ll love this, too! Oh, and my Life & Lit co-admin Melanie tells me it has a very lovable sidekick, so I’m trusting her judgment on this one! <3
(owned TBR)

MOANING MYRTLE (tearjerker): Miles Away From You by A.B. Rutledge
A book about grief, death, loss… yeah, there’s no way this won’t be sad.
(eARC)

OLLIVANDER (book w/ spells): The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
I originally had an eARC in this spot, but I finished Blue Lily, Lily Blue a few days ago and absolutely HAD to find an excuse to finish the series this month! <3
(owned TBR)

ROOM OF REQUIREMENT (favorite genre): Between the Blade and the Heart by Amanda Hocking
YA fantasy. Valkyrie. Enough said.
(ARC)

Hufflepuff:

NEWT (book w/ magical creatures): A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
I have no shame. I’m rereading ACOTAR for the third time this year. COME AT ME.
(reread)

CEDRIC (friendship goals): A Conspiracy of Stars by Olivia A. Cole
I’m not 100% sure if this fits the square, but the synopsis on Goodreads mentions the heroine working with the aid of her best friend, so we’re gonna go for it!
(eARC)

TONKS (strong heroine): The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas
Besides rereading ACOTAR, I’m also beginning the TOG series this month, and SJM herself recommends that newbies to the series start with this one, so I’m going to do just that!
(owned TBR)

BUTTERBEER (a sweet book): Love, Life, & the List by Kasie West
I’ve never read anything by Kasie – fluffy, cutesy contemporary usually isn’t my style – but I hear her work is super light and sweet, so when I was offered an ARC of this one, I decided to take it.
(eARC)

Non-Bingo TBR:

Three Sides of a Heart – anthology
A collection of short stories about love triangles. I was supremely not interested in this until I saw some of the names involved, and learned that is some great diverse rep in this collection.
(eARC)

      1. Haha awww, thank you love! ? I sure hope so! I have no classes this month, so it “should” be a good month for reading, but we’re hosting so many games and the bingo in the Facebook group, plus my kiddo is teething like crazy, so… we’ll see! And thank you so much. ? We worked soooo hard on it, so I’m really proud!

      1. Thank you so much! Oh wow, I love hearing that. We worked so hard on building the bingo, so it makes my little heart fill with joy every time someone says they’re excited about it, lol!

    1. Looks like an awesome TBR! I really hope you enjoy Captive Prince! It’s one of my favourite romance series! Book 1 is hard to get through – definitely morally grey characters – but books 2 and 3 are AMAZING. Good luck Destiny!

          1. I can’t wait! I’ll definitely be posting reviews for them all. I was gonna post my review for book 1 today, but I forgot to take a picture of the book while I had good lighting, lol.

    1. I saw someone else make a post about this and referred me to you to ask how we record the books we’ve read with you for house points? I’m not sure if that’s a thing thats happening though or if I imagined it?

    1. I KNEW I forgot about something for December and this was it!
I just requested membership for the FB Group and I’ll have to create my way too late sign-up post for this bingo as well. No clue how many I’ll do or if I’m going to get a bingo out of it, but it definitely seems fun to try and fit as many books as possible into the Bingo, haha.
      Awesome TBR btw!

Say hello! ♥
