Down the TBR Hole #9

December 3, 2017

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and is a super fun (and simultaneously productive) tag to help you whittle away at those never-ending TBRs! (By the way, you can click on the covers to go to the Goodreads listings!)

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 1,030 titles

Book 91:

16101126

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

One of very few Dessen books I haven’t read, but I own it, and her books are always fun cutesy “easy” reads for me in the summer.

The judgement: KEEP

Book 92:

7812659

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

Bleh. I’m so over the regurgitated “white allocishets falling in love with mundane subplots” Nicholas Sparks crap.

The judgement: REMOVE

Book 93:

2248573

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

I swear on everything I AM GOING TO FINISH THIS SERIES SOMEDAY!

The judgement: KEEP

Book 94:

10626594

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

Funny story behind this book: I checked it out from the library YEARS ago (like, 2012?), it somehow accidentally got scanned back in (though I didn’t return it), and by the time I realized it hadn’t been returned, they’d cleared it from their system as “lost”. They didn’t want it back and told me to keep it. *shrug*

I’d read Maggie’s grocery lists.

The judgement: KEEP

Book 95:

145156

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

I’m not a huge fan of Richard Laymon’s writing, and the plot of this one – a vague sort of synopsis about a woman who’s killed a lot of people? – doesn’t strike me as worth the effort.

The judgement: REMOVE

Book 96:

6661182

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

I’m a sucker for MG horror, and this has pretty good reviews, plus it’s a tiny little thing.

The judgement: KEEP

Book 97:

12182809

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

I had very little interest in this book (or its film adaptations) to begin with, and that interest has gradually disappeared altogether over the years.

The judgement: REMOVE

Book 98:

145152

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

Again, not super interested in Laymon’s writing, and I actually remember DNFing this one years ago because of the pedophilia in it.

The judgement: REMOVE

Book 99:

77203

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

I enjoy historical fiction a lot, and this one has really good ratings on GR, but for some reason, the plot just doesn’t interest me and I’ve heard it’s excruciatingly sad. I’m willing to reconsider, but for now… (don’t hate me)

The judgement: REMOVE

Book 100:

6424171

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

I love the film of this one, but I’m told they’re incredibly different stories, and that’s fine by me. I don’t feel any sense of urgency to read this one right away, but I’ll pick it up eventually.

The judgement: KEEP

Book 101:

664750

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

A murder mystery book that I picked up while thrifting forever ago and promptly realized I had no interest in it then, nor do I now.

The judgement: REMOVE

Book 102:

231582

Date added to shelf: Dec 21, 2014

I read the first book in the series a few years ago and loved it, so I definitely want to continue it.

The judgement: KEEP

Book 103:

18189606

Date added to shelf: Dec 24, 2014

I’m kind of over fluffy contemporaries, and Morgan Matson’s books really just don’t appeal to me much, but I do kind of like the whole trope of a loved one disappearing or dying and leaving behind a “to do” list.

The judgement: KEEP

Book 104:

20726924

Date added to shelf: Dec 24, 2014

Ellen Hopkins is already a little weird for me lately, and this one is about religion, which strikes me as a potentially very hit-and-miss plot point, but I own it, so I might as well.

The judgement: KEEP

Book 105:

270807

Date added to shelf: Dec 24, 2014

See previous commentary on book 104.

    1. Interesting choices. I agree with most of what you did 🙂 I really should work on this because my TBR shelf is closing in on 2,000 I think.

    1. So happy you didn’t remove Brisingr! That series deserves to be read by anyone!!
I personally think The Kite Runner is such a beautiful book. Sad but sooo beautiful. I’m still happy I read it 🙂
      Great post!

      1. Lmao, it had the little plastic sleeve and everything until I finally removed that part earlier this year. Now it just has a couple of library stickers on the dust jacket, but otherwise, it’s immaculate.

    1. Safe Haven was my favorite Nicholas Sparks book but I can see why it’s not for everyone.
I didn’t know about the Rumble book by Ellen Hopkins. lol. I’ll have to add that one to my list.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is amazing but it’s one of those books that you gotta be super committed to or you will get super lost. I loved it but it’s def not for everyone. The Swedish movies are really good! I’ve only seen the first two.

      1. Totally understandable! I have to say that Safe Haven is probably my favorite of the film adaptations of his books, I’m just not super interested in actually /reading/ them. I think it’s honestly one of those matters where I just have so many other books to read that have caught my eye a little more!

        1. I heard that they had changed the name of the female MC in the Safe Haven movie and I was just like noooope. lol. But I totally feel you. That is like me and Lord of the Rings. I have other books I want to get too first before I start that.

          1. Oh wow, I don’t think I knew that! And yeah, it’s tough when it’s a book that’s totally on your TBR, but you just can’t quite seem to prioritize it. I have a LOT of books like that haha!

Say hello! ♥
