T10T: Books On My Christmas List

December 19, 2017

This is a weekly tag hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and this week’s challenge is Top Ten Books I Hope Santa Brings! I usually like to change the weekly prompt a little to make my post unique and challenging, but I decided to go with the actual prompt this time.

1. Strange the Dreamer – Laini Taylor
I’ve heard almost exclusively positive reviews for this book, and Melanie has raved about it and deemed it one of her favorite reads of the year, so naturally, I had to put it on my list. I actually asked my mom for the gorgeous UK hardback shown in the collage pic, so I’m hoping she ordered it! (Mom, if you’re reading this… I’m counting on you. *serious face*)

2. Wonder Woman: Warbringer – Leigh Bardugo
This is another one that is very loved by a close friend of mine: Julie has been raving about this one ever since she got an ARC of it, and I am so excited to finally see how lovely it is for myself! (Melanie was so sweet and sent me a copy of this book for Christmas, so I’m hoping to start on it ASAP!)

3. The Call – Peadar Ó Guilín
This book is described as “a blend of fantasy, horror, and folklore”, and if that isn’t all of my aesthetics rolled into one, what is?

4. What to Say Next – Julie Buxbaum
This one has gotten pretty mixed reviews from my friends, but I loved her last YA release, Tell Me Three Things, so I’m really hoping I get this one and end up loving it, too.

5. The Fifth Season – N.K. Jemisin
I’ve heard literally nothing but good reviews on N.K. Jemisin’s writing. I have several friends who sing her praises, including Melanie, whose raving about the end of this trilogy made me immediately send my fiance a link to the Amazon listing with the message, “Please get me this!”, lmao! <3

6. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (illustrated ed.) – J.K. Rowling
I don’t own any of the illustrated HP books yet, but my fiance saw that it was on sale a few days ago and may have let slip that he ordered it for me. <3

7. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (illustrated ed.) – J.K. Rowling
Again, I don’t have any of these, but it was on sale, and a very sweet friend may or may not be sending me the first two books in illustrated format next month… <3 *all the heart eyes* I can’t wait to reread this series (again)!

8. Captive Prince – C.S. Pacat
I don’t know if you’re noticing a trend with the friend-recommended titles in this list, but Julie read this entire series last month (I think?) and raved about them, so I’m really excited to start on them.

9. Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard (box set) – Stephanie Perkins
I’ve only ever read the first PJO book (I know, *gasp*), but I own that entire series and really enjoyed the first one, so when I saw another Riordan series – and on sale for $13 for the hardcover box set?! – I had to ask for it.

10. When Dimple Met Rishi – Sandhya Menon
I wasn’t sure if I was going to read this one at all because it’s gotten such controversial reviews, but I had a coupon for $5 off a book order, and this was on sale for $4 and change, so… orders were placed, under the guise of Christmas gifts from my sweet Terry. <3

Lastly, of course, I have my amazon wishlist here, which I tend to send my loved ones with a “wink, wink, nudge, nudge” when they ask for ideas. 😉 Thankfully, my loved ones support my bookish habits.

WHAT BOOKS DID YOU WISH FOR THIS YEAR? HAVE YOU READ ANY OF THE BOOKS ON MY LIST?

    1. Hi, I’m the Melanie and I love you and I’m currently wearing fake fae ears and waiting for my camera battery to charge. Hahaha. And these are all amazing picks! <3

      1. Ooooh, awesome! I can’t wait to read more by Riordan. I didn’t get into him as a kid, so I’m playing “catch up” on his books now. Finishing the PJO series is one of my top priorities in 2018. 🙂 Hopefully we both love WW!

    1. Nice list! I just picked up Fantastic Beasts recently. I haven’t had a chance to look through it too much, but it looks promising. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

    1. WHAT TO SAY NEXT IS SO AMAZING!! Sorry for all caps! I recently read it and reviewed it and it was a gorgeous thing. Don’t let the cover fool you, though, it is more complex than a simple fluffy book! But you picked well, certainly.
I see SO MANY beautiful things on this list! I would honestly die to get any of these for Christmas!

    1. Wonder Woman and When Dimple Met Rishi are two of my favourite books from this year, I hope you enjoy them! ?

    1. Great choices! Wonder Woman and the Harry Potter Illustrated edition made my list as well and OMG the Captive Prince series is one of my all-time faves! Hope you’ll find some of these under your Christmas tree. happy Holidays!

      1. Ooooh, fantastic! I might have convinced my fiance to give me Captive Prince early… and then binged it in less than 24 hours and begged him to get the 2nd and 3rd books as last-minute gift additions, lol! Happy holidays, lovely! I hope you have a wonderfully bookish holiday!

    1. Fifth Season is fantastic, I just finished the trilogy. I hear great things about Strange the Dreamer, and also Bardugo’s Wonder Woman. Happy holiday reading!

    1. I have also only heard good things about “Strange the Dreamer”! I think that would be an amazing Christmas gift! and the paperback is not as pretty as the hardcover. I totally agree with you on that one!

Say hello! ♥
