T10T: Newest Books on My TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s challenge was to pick 10 books that have been on your TBR the longest, but last week’s was similar to that when I did 10 books I couldn’t believe I haven’t read, so I decided to go in the opposite direction this week!

1. Frozen Charlotte – Alex Bell
This is a YA horror story in which a girl is so afraid of bones that she tries to cut out her own skeleton? Sounds twisted enough for me.

2. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet – Becky Chambers
I was literally just told it’s a book about “gays in space” and clicked “want to read”. #notsorry

3. Amal Unbound – Aisha Saeed
This was in a recent list of upcoming MG/YA releases with positive Muslim rep, and it sounded so sweet, and the cover is so lovely, that I had to add it.

4. We Are Never Meeting in Real Life – Samantha Irby
This honestly just sounds hilarious.

5. Don’t Call Us Dead – Danez Smith
I feel like so many of my friends have been raving about this poetry collection lately.

6. Akata Witch – Nnedi Okorafor
I actually could have sworn this had already been on my TBR. Why it wasn’t, the world will never know… But it sounds awesome, and not only do I want to support more marginalized authors this year, but I also want to support more international authors! (Nnedi is Nigerian.)

7. We Were Eight Years in Power – Ta-Nehisi Coates
I occasionally get in the mood for a good nonfic read that’s going to make me rage and cry a lot, so this own-voice book about systemic racism, Obama’s presidency, and more should fit that bill. *grabs kleenex*

8. Speak: The Graphic Novel – Laurie Halse Anderson
Why the hell did nobody tell me that one of my favorite books of my teen years was being made into a graphic novel, by one of my absolute favorite GN artists (Emily Carroll)?! As soon as I saw this, I pre-ordered it RIGHT THAT MOMENT. (It comes out today, by the way!)

9. The Summer Children – Dot Hutchison
The finale to The Collector trilogy, which some of you may know as the series that started with The Butterfly Garden. I’ve been following the series since its inception and I can’t wait to see how it ends. ❤

10. Sky in the Deep – Adrienne Young
I have no clue what this book is, where it came from, or why it’s getting hit so hard with the hype train right now, but it sounds pretty cool. I decided not to request an ARC because my plate is full, but I’m going to keep an eye out for trusted reviewers’ thoughts on it over the next few months!

What was the last book you added to your TBR?

  1. Great list! The only one I’ve read on here is Akata Witch and I loved it. I haven’t read the sequel yet, but it’s on my TBR as well. There are quite a few books here which are on my TBR — the one I am most excited for it We Were Eight Years in Power. Essays for the win, right? *grabs tissues*
