Down the TBR Hole #25

April 15, 2018

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and is a super fun (and simultaneously productive) tag to help you whittle away at those never-ending TBRs! (By the way, you can click on the covers to go to the Goodreads listings!)

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 993 titles

BOOKS 401-405:

1

Issaura’s Claws by Katharine E. Wibell – added 03.13.17
I… don’t know what this is…?
removeflower

Bellamy and the Brute by Alicia Michaels – added 03.13.17
I honestly feel so torn on this one, but I bought it on my kindle when it was on sale, so I’ll keep it for now…
keepflower

The Ghost of Normandy Road by John Hennessy – added 03.13.17
Eh, this doesn’t sound particularly interesting to me anymore.
removeflower

Abigale Hall by Lauren A. Forry – added 03.13.17
I’m such a sucker for gothic horror stories, plus it’s hist-fic, which checks one of my other biggest horror check boxes!
keepflower

Grief Cottage by Gail Godwin – added 03.13.17
Speaking of my horror aesthetic check boxes, spooky haunted island cottages is another one, soooo yeah. (I know, they’re oddly specific check boxes.)

BOOKS 406-410:

2

Lace Bone Beast: Poems & Other Fairytales for Wicked Girls by N.L. Shompole – added 03.13.17
I had forgotten all about this book, but it sounds like a really gorgeous, haunting poetry collection, so I’m here for it.
keepflower

Garden of Thorns by Amber Mitchell – added 03.13.17
I feel like this has a pretty unique synopsis, but it still just isn’t really calling out to me, like… at all.
removeflower

Brief, Horrible Moments by Marko Pandza – added 03.13.17
I totally just added this because of a Goodreads giveaway, but it doesn’t sound good anymore, so… probably for the best I didn’t win, heh.
removeflower

One Moment by Kristina McBride – added 03.13.17
We all know how iffy I am about YA mysteries anyways, and this sounds very run-of-the-mill as far as those go.
removeflower

The Fall by Bethany Griffin – added 03.13.17
The cover looks so cheesy and basic for this, let’s be real. ? But House of Usher is my fave EAP story, and this is a retelling of this. GIMME.

BOOKS 411-415:

3

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake – added 03.13.17
The funny thing about this is that it was just a BookOutlet random “hit the free shipping minimum” purchase from the horror section, and I almost unhauled it last summer because I thought, “Eh, will it be that good?” and then a ton of people told me they loved it, so now I’m determined to give it a try. 😛
keepflower

Big Mushy Happy Lump by Sarah Andersen – added 03.13.17
Given that I read and loved #1 and #3 in the Sarah’s Scribbles series, and that I have a copy of this on my shelf, you’d think I’d have read it by now…
keepflower

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones – added 03.13.17
I will probably read this someday, but honestly, I love the Miyazaki film rendition so, so much that I can’t fathom the book holding up to it. (I know, who says that? But seriously… that’s one of my favorite animated films of all time.)
keepflower

Beastly by Alex Flinn – added 03.13.17
Am I ever actually going to read this? Probably not.
removeflower

The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman – added 03.13.17
It’s been at least 15 years since I read The Golden Compass, and if I haven’t continued the series in all that time, I’m not gonna do it now, honestly.
removeflower

BOOKS 416-420:

4

The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman – added 03.13.17
Like I said… 15 years.
removeflower

The Most Dangerous Place on Earth by Lindsey Lee Johnson – added 03.13.17
When I first signed up for BOTM Club last January, there was a glitch and they didn’t process my “skip” choice, so that’s how I ended up with this incredibly boring sounding book that I never wanted to read to begin with.
removeflower

Whisper to Me by Nick Lake – added 03.13.17
I 100% bought this solely for the cover, but it actually sounds like a pretty decent mental health-based contemporary.
keepflower

How to Keep Rolling After a Fall by Karole Cozzo – added 03.13.17
I just bought this as another “minimum purchase” item on BookOutlet, but I’m glancing at the reviews and a lot of them are saying the romance is super precious and swoon-worthy, so I think I’ll give it a try! (Plus, 100% here for the disability rep.)
keepflower

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey – added 03.13.17
I watched the film adaptation of this one, and I know a lot of people feel like it’s a terrible adaptation, but still, I really wasn’t intrigued by the basic plot.
removeflower

BOOKS 421-425:

5

The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin – added 03.13.17
I own the entire trilogy, and I just really feel like I’m going to love it, so…
keepflower

The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin – added 03.13.17
^^^
keepflower

Zodiac by Romina Russell – added 03.13.17
I really enjoy zodiac-related things in general, so I feel like I should give this one a try!
keepflower

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard – added 03.13.17
This series honestly sounds so cool, so I have no idea why I haven’t started it yet!
keepflower

Wires and Nerve, Vol 1 by Marissa Meyer – added 03.13.17
There’s literally no doubt that I’ll read this – I just need to finish TLC first!
keepflower

BOOKS 426-430:

6

The Burning by Bentley Little – added 03.13.17
Sadly, I think my Bentley Little phase has just about run its course.
removeflower

The New Years Party by R.L. Stine – added 03.13.17
Honestly, I think my Fear Street phase has just about run its course, too. A few books in the series still sound interesting, but not this one.
removeflower

The Dreadful Death of Edgar Switchblade by Lonesome Wyatt – added 03.13.17
Have you ever had a book that you really wanted to read, but it reminded you too much of a painful experience in your life, so you had to put it on hold until you could fully recover from that experience? Yeah… that’s this series for me. 🙁 I’ll get there someday.
keepflower

The Turning by Jennifer Armintrout – added 03.13.17
Is Jennifer “Armintrout” also Jennifer “Armentrout”? I mean… certainly that’s just a typo, right? Anyways, I think I’ll pass on this one, mainly because I already owned it once and I think I donated it.
removeflower

Penny Dreadfuls: Sensational Tales of Horror by Stefan R. Dziemianowicz – added 03.13.17
A collection of horror classics? How have I not read this yet?

    1. I’m with you on removing Beastly, I think I just removed it from my own list a few weeks ago. I added it after I watched the movie, but then just never got to it and the more I read the synopsis the less I felt like reading it.

      1. I meant to watch the movie but never did – wasn’t a big Vanessa Hudgens fan as a kid, so I think I avoided it because of her back then, and just never got around to it as an adult! Glad I’m not the only one who’s passing it by, though. :/

    1. This is a great idea! Such a great way to lower the TBR 😀
I wasn’t all that keen on the 5th Wave after the movie either… I removed that a while ago
Sarah Scribbles’ books are awesome, I read them in like 20 mins maybe less. I keep re-reading some of the pages though… mainly the ones related to food 😀
      Happy Reading!

      1. Thank you, Lin!
Yeah, the movie for The 5th Wave was just honestly kind of boring to me? And usually, even if a film adaptation is kinda bad, it’ll make me at least curious to see how the book differed, but with that one, I just lost all interest!

        1. I know what you mean. It was okay, but it felt kind of flat. Like there was a plot, but it wasn’t executed well….if that makes sense 😀

      1. Bahaha, fingers crossed for us! <3 I think at this point I'm waiting on the finale for Truthwitch's series (the Witchlands series, maybe? I can't remember the series name lol) before I start it!

Say hello! ♥
