Down the TBR Hole #34

June 17, 2018

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and is a super fun (and simultaneously productive) tag to help you whittle away at those never-ending TBRs! (By the way, you can click on the covers to go to the Goodreads listings!)

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 902 titles

BOOKS 611-615:

1.jpg

He Said/She Said by Erin Kelly – added 05.14.17
I actually immediately was going to remove this because I had it mixed up with another book, but I’m so glad I double checked the synopsis, because it actually sounds really unique and interesting!

A Blade So Black by L.L. McKinney – added 05.15.17
I’m a little torn on this one; I don’t honestly expect to care much for it, but I also still want to maybe give it a try? I think I’ll remove it for now and wait for more reviews to roll in when it releases in September.

The Outliers by Kimberly McCreight – added 05.16.17
This is only on my TBR because I won a copy in a Goodreads giveaway last spring, but if I’ve had it since May of last year and still have never once considered reaching for it, well… it’s probably time to go.

I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo – added 05.17.17
I loved Maurene’s latest release, The Way You Make Me Feel, but a lot of my friends have said this one isn’t much fun if you aren’t a k-drama fan, and I’ve never seen one!

Words on Bathroom Walls by Julia Walton – added 05.17.17
My sweet friend Cathy loved this one when she read it a while back, so I’d like to try it (plus I got it on sale at B&N a few months ago!).

BOOKS 616-620:

2

The Midnight Dance by Nikki Katz – added 05.17.17
This is another one I only added because of a giveaway, but again… I’ve had it for a year and have never even thought twice about it. Plus, it has a 3.2 average – that’s pretty low!
removeflower

You Bring the Distant Near by Mitali Perkins – added 05.17.17
This sounds super sweet, and Mitali won me over recently with a short nonfiction story I read by her, so I think I’ll give this one a go some time!
keepflower

Amid Stars and Darkness by Chani Lynn Feener – added 05.17.17
I tried to get an ARC of this last year and was denied and I remember being SO SAD about it… and then forgetting all about it! But it still sounds really good, so I’m leaving it here!
keepflower

Zero Repeat Forever by Gabrielle Prendergast – added 05.17.17
I’m super torn on this one. I’m not a big sci-fi fan, and it doesn’t sound super interesting, but my friends’ reviews on Goodreads are almost all 4+ star gush reviews, and I already own a copy from a mystery giveaway last year! Thoughts?
keepflower(for now)

Nyxia by Scott Reintgen – added 05.23.17
I’m honestly ashamed that I haven’t read this yet, because I had it as an eARC and I also somehow ended up with a finished copy, but I still really want to!
keepflower

BOOKS 621-625:

3

The Diviners by Libba Bray – added 05.23.17
Oh, yes. I don’t know why I haven’t read this yet!
keepflower

Your One & Only by Adrianne Finlay – added 05.24.17
Meh… this sounds kind of (very) boring and I’m getting more and more picky about AI-centric sci-fi books. (Sorry, LIFEL1K3 just kinda blew the rest of them out of the water…)
removeflower

House of Furies by Madeleine Roux – added 05.30.17
I definitely still want to read this! It’s so gorgeous and I feel like I’m going to love it, especially since gothic horror is my favorite horror subgenre. ♥
keepflower

The Devils You Know by M.C. Atwood – added 05.30.17
Yikes. Okay, I got an ARC last year, and tried picking it up but it just wasn’t good. I always said I’d come back to it, but now it’s at a 3.2 average, and I remembered that one of my fave bloggers, Heather, 1-starred it and talked about some problematic and/or immature aspects I don’t feel like muddling through!
removeflower

The Gatekeepers by Jen Lancaster – added 05.30.17
I got this as an ARC last year, but some things came up and I sadly didn’t get to it in time, and then… honestly kind of forgot I had it? Which I feel so awful about, because I’m reading the synopsis again and it sounds so good! Definitely gotta get to this one soon (and send the publicist a big, groveling apology, haha)!

BOOKS 626-630:

4

The Art of Feeling by Laura Tims – added 05.30.17
I knew I wasn’t going to keep this one when the synopsis started, “Perfect for fans of Jennifer Niven’s All the Bright Places“… Seriously though, this doesn’t sound super interesting to me anymore.
removeflower

The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli – added 05.30.17
I dunno why I haven’t read this yet. It just hasn’t jumped out at me! But I’m determined to try it eventually.
keepflower

The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry – added 05.31.17
This was purely a cover buy, honestly, and doesn’t sound like my cuppa.
removeflower

Dark Lover by J.R. Ward – added 05.31.17
Yep, I’m doin’ it. I’m starting this massive series soon. I actually bought this on my kindle recently!
keepflower

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan – added 06.03.17
I didn’t like Levithan’s writing in the past when I tried it, but also, this synopsis is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen in my life.

    1. Nyxia was a huge hit with me! I do hope you enjoy it. I have a copy of A Blade so Black here to start soon (so fingers crossed). I cannot say for the rest, aside from I wish I had your dedication to getting the TBR under control, but I am much too lazy and distracted <3

      1. Thank you! I’m looking forward to Nyxia – it’s on my July TBR. Let me know what you think about A Blade So Black! And don’t feel bad, trying to work on my TBR has been a loooong work in progress lol!

    1. Zero Repeat Forever was a 3-star read for me: I liked the concept and the significance of the title, but one of the POV characters was kind of annoying me and sometimes it just felt like the book dragged on too long. I haven’t really read any of the others yet, so I can’t help 😀

    1. I haven’t read ANY of these books but I’m excited for The Last Namsara and House of Furies! And I love this series of posts! I’m thinking I should try it too hmm..

Say hello! ♥
