Down the TBR Hole #35

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and is a super fun (and simultaneously productive) tag to help you whittle away at those never-ending TBRs! (By the way, you can click on the covers to go to the Goodreads listings!)

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 928 titles

BOOKS 631-635:

The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano – added 06.04.17
This book is my greatest book blogging shame. I was offered an eARC, and accepted it. Then, I was sent a print ARC (that I didn’t request). Then, I got a finished copy in an Owlcrate box. All of this said and done… I still haven’t read it. BUT I WILL.

Half Way Home by Hugh Howey – added 06.08.17
I got this for free in a kindle daily sale email, and honestly thought it was horror? It’s YA dystopian, though, and doesn’t sound super interesting.

Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera – added 06.11.17
This book still sounds so good, and I honestly can’t believe I haven’t bought it yet! Plus, that cover is so fun!

The Paths We Choose by M. Hollis – added 06.12.17
I don’t remember adding this, or why I did, but I think I’ll pass on it.
removeflower

Want by Cindy Pon – added 06.13.17
I already really wanted to read this, but then I read Cindy’s short story in A Thousand Beginnings and Endings and suddenly felt like I need to read everything she has ever written, so… this is on my “to buy” list for after my book ban!

BOOKS 636-640:

2

Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali – added 06.13.17
I was still interested in this anyways, but I have to read it for my summer class (or may have already read it by the time this post goes live…)
keepflower

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken – added 06.14.17
I feel like I have so many Alexandra Bracken books on my TBR (even though the number really probably isn’t very high), but this just sounds really good.
keepflower

The Healer and the Warrior by Bekah Clark – added 06.14.17
This is weird, but… I was sent a free ebook of this because I voted for which photo the author should pick for the cover, on a facebook poll? I dunno. I just liked the cover…
removeflower

Roar by Cora Carmack – added 06.15.17
I know this got some mixed reviews, but it still sounds SUPER good to me and THAT COVER.
keepflower

The Archived by Victoria Schwab – added 06.16.17
I 100% plan on reading this before the year is out.

BOOKS 641-645:

3

The Academy by Bentley Little – added 06.16.17
I have so many Bentley Little books on my TBR that I have reached the point of auto-removing any titles that I don’t physically own a copy of.
removeflower

Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh – added 06.19.17
I don’t read MG books often, but I love what Ellen Oh has done for the world of kidlit, so I’ve gotta check out her solo work some time!
keepflower

The Arsonist by Stephanie Oakes – added 06.19.17
This was totally just added because some friends recommended it really highly, buuuut it does sound pretty dope.
keepflower

From a Distant Star by Karen McQuestion – added 06.19.17
This… eh… no.
removeflower

Follow Me Back by A. V. Geiger – added 06.19.17
I know YA thrillers are hit and miss (mostly miss) for me, but I really love books with online relationships, soooo…

BOOKS 646-650:

4

When I Am Through With You by Stephanie Kuehn – added 06.19.17
The appeal of this one just wore off, honestly.
removeflower

Who’s That Girl by Blair Thornburgh – added 06.19.17
I actually have no idea why this is here, because I have been actively NOT interested in this. Oops.
removeflower

Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller – added 06.19.17
Sometimes, you just have to look at the fact that almost literally every single person in your “friends’ reviews” section 1-starred a book. 😂
removeflower

If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout – added 06.19.17
Since I own a couple of her books and haven’t read any of them yet, I’ve started removing whatever I don’t own.
removeflower

The Secret History of Us by Jessi Kirby – added 06.19.17
Sometimes I read the synopsis for a thriller and feel like I can guess the ending just from the synopsis, and that’s not a good feeling, lmao.

  1. I really want to read Saints & Misfits this summer. I’ve heard so many good things about it. I’ve put off Mask of Shadows because of the lackluster reviews for it too. Might have to delete that one from my list as well. Not sure about Follow Me Back, but might give it a shot.

  2. The Paths We Choose was okay – one of the first F/F novels I read, but nothing special.

Want is really good!! You should definitely read that one.

Oh wow, your friends hated Mask of Shadows that much? o.o I heard mostly good or at least okay things about it. I still want to read it because genderfluid protags are so rare.

    1. I’m definitely gonna have to get Want from BookOutlet next time I place an order!! I’ve gotten to talk to the author a couple of times on twitter and she seems amazing. ♥ And yeah, I had heard about the protag in MoS being genderfluid and that they had great potential but that it just didn’t come to fruition too well. 😦 Hopefully you will enjoy it if/when you read it, though!

  3. Yassss, Juliet Takes a Breath!!! You need to read it!

I am in total support of you ditching If There’s No Tomorrow, that book is just not worth the time it takes to read it.

  4. you may have added the paths we choose because it’s a f/f romance with almost a completely qpoc cast?? the mcs are both sapphic (one ids as bi) and poc. it’s a pretty good na romance if you’re looking for a quick novella!

from a distant star was abysmal (good decision there) and the archived is one of my all time faves so another good decision 😂it’s my mission to finally get to want this month. i’ve heard so many good reviews too
