TBR Lows & Highs #6

My current blogging schedule just hasn’t been working very well for me, so I’ve decided to move this meme to Sundays from now on!

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation of why you removed it
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

Before we jump into my list, here are the posts from other bloggers:

  • Sionna added two new books to my TBR here!
  • Sarah added another of my recommendations and made me happy here~
  • My horror love Heather had a spooky week of additions and I am here for it!

Make sure you go give them some love, and feel free to join in with us on this meme!

1. Society of Wishes — Elise Kova
I already own her entire Loom Saga trilogy and the first Air Awakens book, so I might as well read those before having this on my TBR.

2. Storm Born — Richelle Mead
Again with the adding books from authors I own other books by that I haven’t read yet…

3. Archenemies — Marissa Meyer
I love Marissa to death, but I want to decide whether or not I’m ever picking Renegades back up before I have the sequel on here.

4. The Casquette Girls — Alys Arden
This sounds just okay—not good enough to buy, therefore not good enough to leave on the list.

5. I Wrote This For You: 2007-2017 — Iain S. Thomas
Sadly, I think my days of adoring IWTFY are behind me.

1. Bad Call — Mike Scardino
A memoir about working on an ambulance in 1960s New York—I know it sounds odd, but I’m hearing great things, and I have this weird, twisted obsession with ambulance stories.

2. You May Now Kill the Bride — R. L. Stine (purchased)
Stine is rebooting the Fear Street books with the Return to Fear Street series, and this is the first installment (it came out in July), and just, YES, my childhood. ♥

3. Radium Girls — Kate Moore
This is a nonfiction about the first women affected by radiation poisoning, I think? It sounds so tragic that I wasn’t planning to read it, but I’ve heard so many rave reviews that I have to.

4. Cleaner of Bones — Meg Kassel (pre-ordered)
This is just a prequel e-novella to Black Bird of the Gallows, but I’m stoked to get more back story on Reece, my sweet little harbinger crow baby 😂

5. Mister Tender’s Girl — Carter Wilson
A thriller inspired by the Slenderman murderers sounds pretty twisted, and it’s getting awesome reviews from a lot of my favorite booktubers.

6. Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating — Christina Lauren
I just keep seeing this everywhere and it sounds so precious. 😭💕

7. Little Darlings — Melanie Golding
This thriller doesn’t come out until April 2019, but it’s about a woman who swears her babies have been replaced (I think by changelings, since the synopsis says it’s a dark fairytale-inspired story).

8. Creature — Hunter Shea
I love creature features and monster stories. That’s all.

9. Body Positive Power — Megan Jayne Crabbe
Lately, I’ve come to realize that this is the only body I’m ever going to have, and while taking care of it is good, loving it is just as important, so I’ve been following a lot of motivational body positivity people, and you can’t beat @bodyposipanda, right?

10. Mirror Image — Michael Scott & Melanie Ruth Rose (purchased)
Okay, look… I just hauled this a few days ago and it’s the first time I have ever intentionally bought a book despite knowing its average rating was THIS low (2.99, right now), but I’m such a sucker for haunted mirror stories and I just had to find out for myself.

What did you think of this week’s removals and additions? Will you be adding any of these to your TBR?

  1. Josh and Hazel… is so good!! I hope you like it 🙂
Storm Born, I thought was good when I read it years ago, but I never read the 4th and final book… I don’t know if it was even published yet, but I don’t feel any desire to read it again, so I think you made the right choice there for now.
I just added Arch-enemies, but I’m not sure if I’m interested… :/ It might end up on my Lows soon.

    1. Excellent! I can’t wait to read it. 🙂 I just got approved for the eARC of their next book, so I’ll probably read Josh & Hazel after it!

And thanks for the support on Storm Born, lol! I’ve been super into paranormal and urban fantasy lately but it just didn’t seem as interesting to me.

Did you read Renegades? I love Marissa’s writing but I’m not big on superhero stuff so I haven’t finished it yet.

  2. i actually have to add Archenemies to my tbr, because i found out i’m getting an ARC of it (???) when i haven’t even read Renegades yet! worrying b/c it is super long and has meh reviews from trusted sources :/ but your additions seem exciting!! (and spooky)

  3. I love this idea! I might have to do this on my blog! I need to read Radium Girls and Cleaner of Bones. They both sound amazing!
    Great post!
