September Haul: Creepies Everywhere!

September 28, 2018

Another month has passed, and it’s time for another haul post! As you can see, I went a little wild on horror/thriller purchases this month, but there are a few other titles in the mix, too!

If you read my August haul, you know I decided to impose some strict limitations on myself for the rest of 2018:

1. No purchasing a book unless I am going to read it within TWO (2) WEEKS of acquiring it!
2. No pre-ordering a book unless I HONESTLY plan on reading it immediately upon release. (See rule #1)
3. Choosing a scheduled review date for each ARC before requesting/accepting it.
4. Only buying books I feel very optimistic about.

I didn’t go so well with it this month, but in my defense, a lot of these purchases were placed in the last couple of days of August and just hadn’t delivered yet! Heh… Whoops. (At least I stuck to rule #4!)

Total Hauled This Month: 46

    1. Such lovely books! Sounds like you’ll have a great time tackling these titles! Your mentioning of Escaping From Houdini and Vengeful reminded me how much I need to start on those series. ?

      1. Oh my gosh, Kelly, both of those series are SO GOOD! The first Stalking Jack book is a liiiiittle rough at points (though I still enjoyed it), but the 2nd and 3rd books are SO much fun. And Vicious was a lot of fun, too, so I can’t wait to read Vengeful. I heard Vengeful introduces some really badass, angry new lady characters and I’m here for that haha!

    1. i was interested in your limitations…it takes me on average 2 years to read a book after I buy it unless it fits into my next themed month on the blog! Next month is all about the horror so I’m fitting in a few new purchases!

      1. Hahaha I am actually laughing at you saying it takes 2 years because I relate to that SO MUCH! I swear it takes me about that long to get to a book after I buy it, too, unless it’s on a specific monthly TBR. What are the new releases you’re planning on reading in October? 😀

    1. The Haunting of Hill House is so so so so so good! And I’ve also just added Craven Manor to my TBR 😀 Gotta prepare ourselves for Halloween month!

      1. It was my first time reading The Haunting of Hill House since I was a kid (and I didn’t full appreciate it then), and it was fantastic! Plus I am low key IN LOVE with the Guillermo del Toro edition I got. ? I’m so glad you added Craven Manor!

    1. I’m so excited to see A Very Large Expanse of Sea on this list! I’m so excited for it, so I can’t wait to hear what you think of it! In an effort to get my TBR under control I didn’t buy ANY new books in September and relied on my bookshelves and library instead.

      1. I am sooo excited for A Very Large Expanse of Sea! My request on Edelweiss had been pending for what felt like forever and I had pretty much given up hope on being approved for it, so I was really pleasantly surprised when they approved it. I’ll definitely post a review near its release date and share my thoughts! 🙂 That is so awesome that you just read from your shelves and the library in September—way to go on that willpower!!

    1. Awesome haul! <3
We Sold Our Souls looks pretty intriguing, so i put it on my list too 😀
I was actually pretty chill this month and only bought a few books… i'd say max 10 😀

      1. Thank you! We Sold Our Souls was SO good—it had so many fun inside jokes and references to metal music and the community, but also, it’s just a really intriguing story with a lot of action.
Haha that’s awesome, way to go on your restraint! 😀

    1. I thought mine was okay but after tumlbling down the stairs I got myself some more books haha. Feeling sorry for yourself is the best excuse. 😉 You have a great haul. 😀

    1. I think this is the first time I’m really, really thinking “teach me your budget ways because how the fck are you buying this many books” but on the other hand.. Please don’t share cause I won’t be able to resist trying it out myself and get myself into a load of boyfriend-trouble by doing so. ??
Sadie, City of Ghosts and Summer Bird Blue are on my wish list. Heard amazing things about all three (probably from you as well) and I neeeed them. One day. ?

      1. Lmao! I never pay full price for anything, is the biggest thing. I shop sales, get coupons in my email, etc. I actually have this trick – I dunno if it works as well with your Amazon – where I save everything I’m interested in getting to my wishlist, and once or twice a week, I skim through the list and look for “the price has dropped ___%”. It’ll be in bold letters and it’ll say whatever percentage, and whenever that happens, it’s usually just a random sale for a few days? But I get awesome deals like that. For example, a few days ago I was skimming through, and Devils Unto Dust (an eARC western/horror book I read earlier this year and loved) was marked down to FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS for the brand new hardback and there was one copy left, so I snatched it up.
Yessssss 😀 I hope you love them all.

        1. Hm. I’ll have to start using Amazon way more then. I usually only update the thing when my birthday / Christmas are coming around and people start harassing me about wish lists. ?
I used to have my BD-wish list updated but since I’ve grown way too annoyed with them and their lost books or books that take two weeks to arrive, I’ve just.. nah. :’)

          1. I hate Amazon’s business model, but they keep me coming back with books, I swear. BD is a struggle for me, too. :/ It takes anywhere from 2-5 weeks for me to receive books from them, and whenever they go missing, their customer service is kind of garbage. The last book that went missing, they made me wait until TWO MONTHS after placing the order before they were willing to send another copy. I was so mad. Right now, I’m still waiting on my preorder of the UK edition of Muse of Nightmares, which apparently didn’t ship out until like 5 days after it released? :/

            1. My goodness. You’d think they’d have solved those issues already since they are pretty common as far as I’ve heard already.. I also LOATHE how preorders never arrive on time here while in the US people sometimes get their preorders a day early. HOW EVEN. They don’t ship mine until two or three days after. Sometimes even a week. 😐

            1. I feel like I have rotten luck with pre-orders for some reason. ? like, if I order from amazon, there’s probably an 80% chance it’ll get here on the release date (though if you’d asked me this time last year, it was literally, like, a 30% chance). Barnes & Noble, it’s almost always the end of the release week, on Friday or Saturday. BookDepository, though, well… Muse of Nightmares came out on the 2nd and my copy arrived this afternoon.

            1. We’re better off moving to a big city [in an English-speaking country, just adding this for myself] and going to the freaking bookstore on release day. Not that it’s an option but we can dreaaaaam.

Say hello! ♥
