Bookish "Naughty or Nice" Tag!

December 7, 2018

I have about a dozen reviews I should be writing and posting, but as I’m typing this, it’s 5am and my sleep schedule is all messed up soooo you guys get a tag instead. 😛 Whoops. Thank you so much to Reg for tagging me in this one! I think this was intended to be a “Blogmas” post, which I’m not participating in officially, but I still thought it would be fun to do. Credit to Jenn for creating the tag!

RULES:

  • tag & link the person who tagged you
  • tag & link the creator
  • cross off the ones you’ve done
  • tag 10 people!
  • Received an ARC and not reviewed it ✅

Yup! I have some overdue ones I need to get to, but there are also a few that I’ve received over the last couple of years where I’ve unhauled them without reviewing them—usually because they were unsolicited and outside of my reading tastes.

  • Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley ❌

  • Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did) ❌

I do have some “RTC” (Review to Come) titles that have been waiting on reviews for a very long time, but I make a rule of always going back and adding at least a mini review if I’ve promised a review for a book.

  • Folded down the page of a book ✅

I definitely used to dog-ear my own pages all the time as a kid, and as an adult, as long as it belongs to me (and especially if it’s an ARC, as they tend to be poor quality and not very durable to begin with), I’ll fold down the page corners if I don’t have my page tabs handy for marking quotes I want to use in my review. (*GASP*, I know!)

  • Accidentally spilled on a book ✅

Oh yeah. ?

  • DNFed a book this year ✅

Many. ? One of my 2018 reading resolutions was to allow myself to DNF more books and I’ve followed through on that pretty well, with no regrets.

  • Bought a book purely because it was pretty, with no intention of reading it ❌

I’ve considered it MANY times, but never actually done it!

  • Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework) ✅

EVERY. DAMN. DAY.

  • Skim read a book ✅

Yup. I will admit to doing this if it’s a book that I want to see the ending of but can’t bring myself to read normally, but I do typically mention that in my reviews so that I’m being transparent with people.

  • Completely missed your Goodreads goal ✅

In 2016, my goal was originally 50 and I had to lower it to 24 at the beginning of December and BARELY made it, so I count it as a personal “miss” since I lowered it by so much and so late in the year. In 2015, I don’t remember what my challenge was but I know I failed it big time.

  • Borrowed a book and not returned it ✅

I’ve had a couple of library books go missing over the years and had to pay the purchase cost for them (that’s how I got my copy of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater, in fact). I also have a copy of Howl’s Moving Castle that I borrowed from an ex’s sister and didn’t get the chance to return to her before the situationship ended. (In my defense, I asked her a few months later if she’d like me to mail it to her or meet her somewhere, but she told me to keep it—she’s delightful. ♥)

  • Broke a book buying ban ✅

HA. HAHAHA. HAVE YOU SEEN MY HAULS THIS YEAR?!

  • Started a review, left it for ages, then forgot what the book was about ❌✅

I’ve never totally forgotten the book or anything, but I have had to skim read to refresh myself on character names or the “whodunit” or things like that, so I’ll say this is a yes and a no.

  • Wrote in a book you were reading ✅

Yup! Kaleena forced me to write in her copy of Cat’s Cradle during her fall traveling book earlier this year and it was my first time ever annotating a fiction book! It was pretty fun and I’ve considered taking it up with my own books during rereads (only if I know I love the book enough to not unhaul it).

  • Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads ✅

Definitely. I made my GR account in 2012 but didn’t start using it regularly until 2016. Plus, there are the… uhhh, 15+ years of my life pre-Goodreads where I was reading all the time?

  • Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend ✅

Yup, see previous answer about ex’s awesome sister.

  • Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book ✅

Hahahaha YES. I have so done this and I will continue to do it for the rest of my life because people cannot be trusted. I’m sorry, but I have lost soooo many books—many of them EXTREMELY sentimentally valuable, like my first edition hardbacks of the first 2 HP books—because of people borrowing them and losing them or refusing to give them back.

  • Broke the spine of someone else’s book ❌✅

I’m not sure on this one, actually? I mean, I’ve never done it intentionally, but I didn’t know what “spine breaking” was as a kid so I would assume I’ve done it on accident back then.

  • Took the jacket off to protect it and ended up making it more damaged ✅

Sigh. Sadly, yes, this has happened a few times.

  • Sat on a book accidentally ✅

I mean… yeah? But it’s never damaged it or anything. ?

Score: 15/20

Whoops! Guess I’m a pretty naughty reader. ? *eyebrow waggle*

It’s… it’s after 5am. I’m not tagging anyone. If you want to do this, consider yourself tagged. I’m so sorry. *crawls off to bed*

    1. I think I need to make DNF’ing more books a resolution next year, I’m so bad at it and I’ll read a book I don’t like just to see where it goes ? so glad I’m not the only one who won’t let some people borrow books when they just don’t understand the value of them!

    1. Fun tag, oh you naughty one 🙂
A friend of mine lent me a book, and said “i want it back in the same condition. No spine cracking!”. I felt so stressed, i ended up not reading the book, just gave it back to him the next day 😀

      1. Bahahahah that’s exactly how my mom is with my books!! She “borrows” them and ends up giving them back the next time she sees me saying she didn’t read them because she got too much anxiety ??

        1. I remember when I was first told to write in a book: it was AP English in 2001. And I panicked! I remember the teacher saying to consider it a way to have a two-way conversation with the author, and that stuck with me ever since. I only write in books I am re-reading and that aren’t special editions, but I like it! It’s like a time capsule of my thoughts!

Say hello! ♥
