State of the ARC #6—December!

My current State of the ARC…

In case you missed the news, I was hired as a youth librarian this month! While my new position doesn’t start until January 2nd, Netgalley allowed me to go ahead and change my account status to “librarian”, which resulted in several very unexpected auto-approvals for titles I’d had pending a while. Whoops…

December’s Progress…

Since my November State of the ARC, I have completed 15 review copies.

In Progress:

Right now, I have 1 review copy in progress.

I also acquired 31 new review copies (11 physical, 20 digital). I have completed 4 of the new additions with 1 more in progress.

    1. Thank you! OMG, you have to right away—literally within 10 minutes of them changing my status, Disney-Hyperion approved a request of mine that had been pending for 2 months and then auto-approved me. Later that day, I requested a title from a Macmillan Childrens imprint and they auto-approved me for all of Macmillan Childrens, too! I think the other auto-approval I got was from BOOM! Studios, if you like graphic novels.

      1. Yeah!! It was literally an auto thing, like the second I requested a book, it went, “You’ve been auto-approved!” so I *think* it’s set up for all librarian accounts?? Hopefully! I’m crossing my fingers real hard for you. 😀 They fixed my status over within 10 minutes of me emailing them so I’m also hoping they reply quickly for you!

      2. I changed it in my “bio” but I haven’t “officially” changed it. I emailed their support and they said I have to see if my library has its own Edelweiss account already, and if they don’t, I have to get my director’s permission to have one made, or something? I was really confused by the email so I’m going to hold off on that part for now.

      3. Was it the dropdown thing where you change your bio and stuff? I did that one to public librarian, but the support person said there are also specific library accounts – I guess those have different options and settings and some publishers give you a “download” option instead of a “request” one. I’m hoping just changing it in my bio will be enough, though, because I struggle enough with Edelweiss without figuring out a bunch of new crap. 😂

  1. Congratulations on the new job, that is wonderful! Also great job completing so many ARCs! I recently read and reviewed an ARC for Love Looks Pretty on You, I hope you enjoy it!

    1. Thank you love! As far as the way you interact with the site, the only difference is that, when you go to submit a review, it asks you if your library would purchase a copy and if you would nominate it for a librarians recommendations award list (and you just click y/n). Mostly it impacts how publishers interact with you—some publishers have it set up so that, if you’re a verified librarian, as soon as you request something from them, you get an instant approval, which is VERY cool but also anxiety-inducing because you don’t know which pubs will do it until you try, and it’s so easy to get too many, as you can see I did. 😂

  2. It’s both awesome and way too tempting to have the librarian status xD whoops indeed! I’m both happy for you and jealous in equal parts hahaha 😀 you know what I mean. Anyway, it’s totally awesome that you got hired to be a librarian – I hope we won’t be seeing you on the blog/twitter less though? I want to hear all about your new job as you’re learning the ropes 🙂

31 new review copies, holy moley, you weren’t kidding xD I am laughing right now… 😀

    1. Haha yes, for sure, it’s a blessing and a curse! I’ll be on Twitter a lot less as one of my 2019 goals is to spend less time on social media, but I’ll still be posting some updates there—just not scrolling through the feed and interacting as much haha. I’ll definitely still be here on the blog, though! I’m hoping to keep posting 7 days a week but, worst case scenario, might drop down to 5 days a week. 🙂

  3. Oh my goodness and I thought my pile was bad. That’s so cool that you got a job as a librarian, though! (but mostly that it lets you have access to more books through auto-approve) Also side note, The Wicked King omg! I preordered it about a week ago and it’s finally supposed to arrive tomorrow and I am SO pumped to read it. Best of luck with your pile, Destiny!
