T10T: January-March 5-Star Predictions

January 1, 2019

TTT-Big2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week is meant to be a “best of” list, but I can’t narrow that down to 10 (and that list is coming later this week!), so I opted to update y’all on my October-December TBR 5-Star Predictions as well as making my January-March predictions so I can keep doing this every season!

Jan → Mar Predictions

1. Kingdom of Ash — Sarah J. Maas
why I predict a 5-star rating:
This is one of my all-time favorite series, and even though I’ve heard some mixed reviews for KoA, I have faith in Sarah’s ability to satisfy me with this ending.
2. Rolling in the Deep — Mira Grant
why I predict a 5-star rating:

I’ve yet to give less than 5 stars to anything by this author!
3. King of Scars — Leigh Bardugo
why I predict a 5-star rating:

While I have not actually 5-starred everything I’ve read by Leigh, my gut tells me this will be my favorite thing she’s written thus far!
4. The Weight of the Stars — K. Ancrum
why I predict a 5-star rating:

Kayla has such a unique and intriguing writing style that I can’t help but love, and I think this is going to be fantastic.
5. The Test — Sylvain Neuvel
why I predict a 5-star rating:

I haven’t read anything from this author yet, so I don’t know where all of this confidence is coming from, but I have such a strong feeling I’m gonna love this!

6. Darkest Hours — Mike Thorn
why I predict a 5-star rating:

Is it cheating to pick one because I’ve already read the first story in the collection and LOVED it?
7. The Nightmare Girl — Jonathan Janz
why I predict a 5-star rating:

At this point, I just predict I’ll 5-star everything he writes.
8. The Owls Have Come to Take Us Away — Ronald L. Smith
why I predict a 5-star rating:

I just really love alien-based MG horror stories—I know, kind of a specific niche to love lmao—and I have such high hopes for this one!
9. Sorcery of Thorns — Margaret Rogerson
why I predict a 5-star rating:

If I give this less than 5 perfect, flawless stars, I will cry. And maybe delete my blog forever.
10. A Heart in a Body in the World — Deb Caletti
why I predict a 5-star rating:

Just another one of those gut feelings, plus her book The Nature of Jade has been one of my favorite contemporary releases of all time since I first read it over a decade ago.

Do you have any 5-star predictions for your reading plans over the next few months? Do you think I will or won’t 5-star any of mine?

    1. Rolling in the Deep was a trip, and I’m curious about The Test since I wonder what Sylvain Neuvel’s new book will be like.

    1. It’s so hard for me to come up with five star predictions because my reading tastes are so weird, but my best guess would be Scythe by Neal Shusterman and A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab will both be five star reads.

    1. I think you’ll five-star Kingdom of Ash.
Hmmm… I think I’ll five star The Wicked King and Empire of Storms. I’m sure I’ll have lots of 5* reads, but I don’t want to make any more predictions than that.
      Happy New Year!

    1. I hope these will all end up being 5-star reads for you! I really want to read A heart in a Body in the World too, and think it’ll end up being a 5-star read for me as well. I’ve only really heard one YouTuber talk about it, but she loved it so much that it convinced me.

      1. Thank you! Was it Chelsea you heard talk about it by any chance? I’m just curious because she’s who sold me on it and I literally had to pause her video and go order it that moment because I was so excited haha. I didn’t watch her little spoiler-y moment about the trigger warnings, though, because I didn’t want to be spoiled, so I’ve been steering clear of everyone else’s reviews until I read it.

    1. King of Scars will hopefully be as amazing as everyone is expecting it to be! I know the Grisha trilogy gets mixed opinions, but “Six of Crows” and “Crooked Kingdom” are fantastic. You can see how good Leigh`s writing gets over time.

    1. Fun to see you were pretty spot on with your 5 star predictions!
I loved KoA, hope you’ll do too!
And King of Scars is definitely one I predict to be a 5 star read as well 🙂

      1. I know, I was surprised I knew myself that well! I still think, had I gotten to those 3 I didn’t read in time, they would have been 4- or 5-star reads as well! 😀 And thank you! I hope we’re right on King of Scars but I honestly would be amazed if we’re wrong!

    1. I struggled with this list because I feel like I didn’t read enough (58 books) to choose ten that were my absolute favorite of the year!

      1. Aw, I think 58 books is definitely enough to choose a top 10 – way to go! 🙂 My top books list will be coming later since I decided on a totally different theme for this week’s T10T post.

    1. Ooh, interesting that you do the five-star prediction thing. I don’t think I would ever win that lottery ha. The new five star reads almost always take me by surprise.
      Happy reading!

    1. I feel like you will 5 star Kingdom of Ash and King of Scars.
I’m predicting that I will 5 star The You I’ve Never Known by Ellen Hopkins, but I’m not too confident in the rest of my January TBR.

    1. I love seeing these prediction lists pop up on several blogs lately. I love the idea and yours was super fun to read. I may have to join the fun. You were pretty spot on with your predictions! Happy New Year!

    1. I hope all of these turn out fantastic for you! I’m too scared to predict my 5 star reads, I’m always so worried I’ll hype up something too much for myself! 😀

    1. Yes to King of Scars <3 I was a pretty dissapointed with the ending of Neuvel's Themis Files so I am not running to get The Test anymore haha.

Say hello! ♥
