I’m back, baby!
I said I wouldn’t come back until I was ready… and I’m happy to say that a couple of weeks of stepping away and not fretting over content creation worked wonders in re-sparking my interest in this blog. I honestly expected to need more time away, but I think the simple act of allowing myself to set it aside was enough to make me realize that I’m not finished blogging; I just need to make some changes.
A few things I’ve mulled over lately:
- Getting back to the basics. Once upon a time, the bulk of my posts were reviews and book recommendation lists, but lately, they’ve become cluttered with check-ins and memes. Those are a lot of fun, but I’d love to get back into making more content that says something, you know?! I’m ditching the memes for the most part (though I may dip my toes back into Top 10 Tuesdays) and might even cut my check-in posts down to a mid-month check-in and the end-of-month recap I normally do.
- Adding in other forms of media: I used to talk more about my interests in other media, like movies and video games, but I rarely bring those up besides a quick blip at the end of each check-in. I’d love to start writing up a movie recap each month with mini reviews for the movies or shows I watch, and maybe start doing some video game highlight posts!
- Tidying up my old content. As you might have noticed, I have a new header and new post banners! I’ve also archived about 800 old blog posts from the past 8 years (wow!), and I’m planning on going through and changing out the banners on my old posts at some point to give everything a more streamlined, uniform appearance. My goal is to start archiving any content that isn’t “evergreen” after about a year, unless it’s some sort of big update like an annual goals recap, or a fun time capsule like a blog tag.
- Getting back to Twitter. Weirdly enough, now that I’ve learned how to stop doom-scrolling so much and to let things on social media roll off my back a bit more, I’ve started… kind of missing Twitter? I mean, not really the site as a whole — it’s still a cesspool — but I really miss talking with you all on a regular basis and seeing what everyone’s up to! I made my return about a week ago, and so far, it’s gone well. I’ve been curating my feed and letting myself close right out of the app every time it starts to feel tiring or heavy.
I’m pretty sure there’s more to it that I’m forgetting to mention, but that’s okay. I just wanted to update you all on how my hiatus went and what to expect moving forward! I’m really looking forward to sharing reviews more regularly (after all, I think I have a couple hundred mini reviews on Goodreads that I haven’t shared here from the past 2 years or so), and I’d love to get back into posting a few blog tags per month, so feel free to tag me in anything fun and new!
If you’ve read this far, let me know: is there anything you’ve changed or want to change about your blog? If so, what is it, and if you’ve already implemented the change, did it help?

June 2, 2024I always love reading non-bookish content so I’m looking forward to see what movies/series you’ve been watching and games you’ve been playing! I really need to get through my old posts and archived/update them, but it seems so daunting ?

June 5, 2024Welcome back, I love the new look! ? I’m very excited to see you talk about other forms of media as well, I’ve been wanting to talk more about shows and video games as well ❤️
I haven’t been using Twitter as much as I used to, but lately I’ve been feeling like coming back to it slowly! It used to stress me out so much, but now I’m curating my timeline a bit more ?
