1. Recommend a book from one of your favorite genres:

One of my favorite genres is, of course, horror, and I’ll recommend Kealan Patrick Burke’s Dead of Winter, because it’s perfectly fitting not only for my fellow northern hemi folks who are entering the cold months (or are already in them), but also for anyone who celebrates Christmas.

2. Recommend a short book:

All Systems Red by Martha Wells. It’s the first book in the Murderbot Diaries series, a series of adult sci-fi novellas that follow an AI robot who hates humans… but really doesn’t give enough of a shit to do anything about it. It just wants to be left alone to sit in its bunk and watch TV, and don’t we all have those days?

3. Recommend a book-to-screen adaptation:

If I’m thinking of something I love the book and film versions of, aside from the obvious (HP, The Hunger Games), I’ll go with The Fault in Our Stars. It’s one of the very few adaptations that I think is just as amazing as the book, maybe even a little bit better.

4. Recommend a book out of your comfort zone:

I mostly don’t have a comfort zone, but I thought on this question a while and realized I almost never read westerns, yet I adored Erin Bowman’s Vengeance Road. I didn’t think its companion novel Retribution Rails was quuuuiiiiiite as great… but it was still fun.

5. Recommend a book series:

While it isn’t a complete series yet, the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire is my recommendation and it’s definitely an all-time fave for me. At the time I’m writing this tag, I actually just got the upcoming 5th book as an ARC in the mail today, and I definitely screamed a little.

6. Recommend a standalone:

Sorcery of Thorns. Except I so desperately wish it wasn’t a standalone, because I NEED MORE. The banter, the demons, the world-building, the adorable and ever-so-witty bisexual love interest… Ugh, end me! I adore it all.

7. Recommend a book you don’t talk about enough:

Oh, definitely Blood Water Paint by Joy McCullough. I’ve been remembering to talk about it a little more lately, but for how much I adore this book and what a tremendously huge impact it’s had on my life, I really do not gush about it nearly enough. It’s based on the life of the artist Artemisia Gentileschi and her assault (and subsequent trial), and it alternates between brief chapters and poetry. It can be very triggering, so practice self-care, but holy shit, it’s one of the best depictions of assault and survival I have ever read IN MY LIFE and it broke me a million times in the best way.

8. Recommend your “staple” book:

I LOVE asking people this because I almost always get different answers! A lot of people have told me they associate me with the Wayward Children series, or the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, or the Captive Prince series, but the #1 answer I’ve gotten the most is definitely A Court of Mist and Fury. I can’t tell y’all how many people have told me it’s the first book that comes to mind when they think of me. The Illyrian bat baby thirst is clearly too real on this blog. ?

9. Recommend the book(s) that got you into reading:

The Goosebumps series, and Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry. No lie, those were my diehard faves as an itty-bitty kiddo. I’ve loved reading longer than I can remember, tbh, but these are the first things I remember obsessing over.

10. Recommend 3+ bloggers who recommend great books:

I’m going to try to think of 3 people who put books on my radar that I’ve never heard of before, so let’s go with:

  1. Cassie — she’s one of the only people I know of who can consistently bring new horror titles to my attention before I’ve heard of them!
  2. Kaleena — she constantly reviews titles that I’ve heard of but know NOTHING about, and she manages to sell me on them ALL THE TIME.
  3. Sionna — I probably literally wouldn’t even keep paying $10/month for Kindle Unlimited if Sionna hadn’t managed to build my KU TBR up to, like, 6 million PNR titles. ?

      Also, I’m slowly reading the Goosebumps series to Elliott! This is my first time reading them as well and they’re so fun!

      i love this tag! i definitely associate you with the stalking jack the ripper series but cole mccade and talia hibbert are the next two that come to mind. i realllllly need to read sorcery of thorns asap. i keep putting off because i know it’s going to wreck me

        It’s so okay lovely!! I was like 2 months behind on replies until tonight and I’m still not done catching up haha. I’m just so glad you associate CaPri with me because that’s all I want in life ? I just need people to recognize and appreciate the fact that my over-emotional dumb ass can’t go more than 35 minutes without missing my dumb reluctant royal boys. <3 And Giant Days?!?!
