It’s time for a weekly check-in!
Wtf… how are we halfway through August?! (Not that I’m complaining. September is not only my new tattoo appointment month, but also Halloween Eve™️.) This month is just freakin’ FLYING by. I’ve been so busy with medical/dental appointments (all pretty routine stuff), stuff around the house, work, and the concert we went to this week!
If you didn’t see me mention it last week, we saw Sum 41, Simple Plan, and The Offspring on Tuesday night, and it was AWESOME. It was my first concert since pre-COVID and Simple Plan has been on my concert bucket list since I was a kid, so seeing them live was just incredible. ♥
How was your week?
Sadie’s new book was AMAZING (you can read my review here if you missed it earlier this week!) and I added so many books to my TBR that I even made a Goodreads shelf for them! When I get the chance, I’m planning on making a Storygraph challenge for it, and I’ll share the link in case anyone else wants to join.
Also… I finally finished Dracula! Even though it felt like it was dragging by at times, the last 1/3 or so flew by and I ended up loving this classic. I wrote separate reviews for the story itself as well as the Dracula Daily edition. (I counted both as being read in 2023 because my Goodreads goal is already completed anyway, and who cares? 😂)
- 101 Horror Books to Read Before You’re Murdered // Sadie Hartmann → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”: The Authorized Graphic Adaptation // Miles Hyman & Shirley Jackson → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Dracula Daily // Bram Stoker & Matthew Kirkland → ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Dracula // Bram Stoker → ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Thornhedge // T. Kingfisher → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📚 current reads 📚
Almost everything on this list is a 5-star prediction so far and I love that for me. 😌
- King of Scars // Leigh Bardugo → 87%
- Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror // Jordan Peele → 25%
- The Serpent and the Wings of Night // Carissa Broadbent → 28%
- Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology // Shane Hawk & Theodore C. Van Alst Jr. → 25%
- Starling House // Alix E. Harrow → 11%
- Party Games // Jon Athan → 34%
I usually talk about movies or (rarely) video games here, but since the concert was so great, I’m going to plug some music. Simple Plan released a new album not too long ago, so here’s my favorite of their new songs (and it even features Deryck Whibley—though sadly, they didn’t play it together live).
Heads up: you can always friend me on Letterboxd if you wanna see my movie mini reviews!
What are you reading right now, or what did you recently finish? Is anything exciting happening in your life? Let me know in the comments!

August 17, 2023Oh a Goodreads shelf is a good idea, thanks! Don’t mind me copying you re that ? Now I can actually loan the ebook out. could even write in the “review” a summary of what Sadie said about the book – to remember myself. Storygraph challenge is also a great idea!
