It’s time for a weekly check-in!
First check-in of the new year, let’s gooo! It’s been a pretty good past few days. At the time I’m writing this, my covid symptoms have mostly passed aside from a little nasal congestion and a chest cough that I’m expecting to linger a while based on the usual behavior of the illness. I feel grateful that it hasn’t been worse!
I haven’t quite gotten back on track with all of my content creation scheduling goals just yet, but I’ve been doing great with my other “offline” goals this week, so I’m pleased with the way 2024 has kicked off. Of course, it’s only 4 days in, so I’m not getting ahead of myself just yet. 🤣
How was your New Year?
This week was a mix of great reads and disappointing ones, but honestly, all that matters to me about this list is that I adored Marla and Craven Manor after having both of those at the tippy-top of my TBR for so long and loving both of those authors so much!
- Hark! the Herald Angels Scream // Christopher Golden → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (re-read)
- Marla // Jonathan Janz → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Craven Manor // Darcy Coates → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- I Found Christmas Lights Slithering Up My Street // Ben Farthing → ⭐⭐⭐
- Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries // Heather Fawcett → ⭐⭐💫
📚 current reads 📚
Only TWO current reads? Who is she?! To be fair, I’m starting a buddy read of My Roommate is a Vampire with Misty today, but other than that, I’d love to make some solid progress on both of these before picking up much else!
- Christmas and Other Horrors // Ellen Datlow → 8%
- The Shadow of What Was Lost // James Islington → 20%
I started playing Good Pizza, Great Pizza again (my first time on PC, but I’ve been playing the mobile version on-and-off for almost a decade lol) and have been totally sucked into that. Thankfully, it’s a great audiobook game!
What are you reading right now, or what did you recently finish? Is anything exciting happening in your life? Let me know in the comments!

January 4, 2024Oh no seeing you rate Emily Wilde only 2.5 stars worries me. I’ve been hearing such rave reviews. This is one of the first low star ratings I’ve seen. I also can’t wait to see what you think of Christmas and Other Horrors. I’ve been wanting to pick that up. Also love hearing that Good Pizza Great Pizza is a good audiobook game. Sometimes if I’m just sitting around doing nothing I find myself not fully paying attention to the audiobook.

January 5, 2024I’m glad you’re finally feeling better. I hate how the cough always lingers for so long after you are mostly better for pretty much any sickness.
