Tag time! I wasn’t feeling today’s Top 5 Wednesday category, so I decided to work on my incredibly long and ever-expanding list of blog tags. They’re burying me alive, but I love it.
Today’s tag is “The TBR Tag”, which I was tagged in by the love Darque Dreamer! She’s just as gorgeous as her blog is, and if you haven’t checked it out and followed her, you totally should.
how do you keep track of your tbr pile?
I have the basic “want to read” shelf on Goodreads, but I also have some sub-shelves that I use, like “top-tbr”, “maybe-someday”, “try-again-later”, etc. I’ve recently started creating specific monthly TBR shelves, as well as challenge-related shelves. I also have a very organized spreadsheet on my computer which helps me keep up with my ARCs, including their titles, priority rankings, release dates, and formats.
is your tbr mostly print or ebook?
I have a pretty healthy mix of the two, but definitely more print than ebook. I think my ebook TBR is probably 150-ish titles, whereas my print TBR is closer to 300.
how do you determine which book from your tbr to read next?
Lately, I’ve been doing monthly TBRs, which I finalize usually on the last few days of the previous month. I try to stick to those as much as I can! When I’m creating the monthly TBRs, I always prioritize group reads for that month, as well as any ARCs releasing during that month or in the first week of the following month. After that, if I still feel like I have room for more titles, I just go by mood.
a book that’s been on your tbr the longest:
The Lord of the Rings trilogy has been on my TBR for an incredibly long time – probably 15 years now?
a book that you recently added to your tbr:
I’ll go with my most recent addition to my print TBR: Dear Martin by Nic Stone, which I received an ARC of in yesterday’s mail. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s an upcoming YA contemporary release that follows a black teen named Justyce as he faces everyday racism, police brutality, and the oppression that black individuals must struggle to overcome in their lives. It’s written by a black woman from my hometown of Atlanta, and I’m sure it’s going to be an incredibly painful and poignant read, but I’m eager to crack it open and see what Nic can teach me.
a book that’s on your tbr strictly because of its beautiful cover:
This one honestly sounds like an amazing read, but I’ll be honest: The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova originally only made it onto my TBR because I fell in love with the cover when I first saw it. I love the steampunk vibe, plus the character design is so fierce and unique.
a book on your tbr that you never plan on actually reading:
If you’d asked me this six months ago, I could have given you a slew of titles, but I recently went through my TBR shelves on GR and removed any and all books that I wasn’t 100% sure I’d be interested in reading, and I’m also in the current process of unhauling some print titles I have that I know I’m never going to pick up (or reread).
an unpublished book on your tbr that you’re excited for:
There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. I requested an ARC of this one, but sadly was turned down. It works out okay, though, because now that I won’t be getting it until my pre-order arrives, I’m going to save it for my October Spooky TBR!
a book on your tbr that basically everyone has read except you:
Anything by Cassandra Clare, basically. I know, I’m late to the game, but I haven’t ever so much as cracked open a single book of hers. I’m planning on starting with her first series soon-ish, but probably not until next year some time.
a book on your tbr that everyone recommends to you:
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Since I love the ACOTAR series so much, people are usually pretty surprised to find out that I haven’t read any of the TOG books (especially when you consider the fact that I own all of the ones released so far).
a book on your tbr that you’re just dying to read:
This one definitely has to go to Nevernight by Jay Kristoff, which I purchased pretty recently and have spent every day since it arrived staring at it on my shelf, just impatiently awaiting my September group read for it…
the number of books on your goodreads tbr shelf:
My “to-read” shelf has 887, plus my “maybe-someday” shelf has 136, and my “try-again-later” shelf has 16… so technically, the number you’re looking for is 1,039.

You are not missing much if you don’t read the Sarah J Maas books 😀 I read book 1 and didn’t like it, the heroine was too powerful.
