This tag came to me thanks to a tag from my lovely friend Melanie, who you should absolutely go follow if you aren’t already! <3
The Rules

3. Have fun!
cheddar: the traditional cheese
(name your favorite classic novel)
I am actually not a big fan of classics at all. I’m always willing to give them a try, but I rarely end up enjoying them (or finishing them, for that matter). Since I don’t have a lot that I enjoy, I thought I’d cheat a little; I know the question asks for my favorite novel, but I’m just going to give you my favorite classic author: Edgar Allan Poe. Reading his work as a child was what first brought little horror-film-adoring me into the world of horror books, too, and I still think that a few of his stories are miles spookier than anything most of today’s horror authors come up with. (Notable shout-outs to my faves, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Masque of the Red Death.)
swiss: the hole-y cheese
(name an emotional roller coaster)
This entire trilogy is a total roller coaster, but I have to give it to my latest obsession, Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. It’s the finale of The Illuminae Files and just released earlier this week.
I tore through it in one evening and adored every single moment of it, but man, what a ride! I literally went from sobbing to laughing, back to sobbing, within a minute or two’s time span – MULTIPLE TIMES. So good. So worth the pain.
blue cheese: the controversial cheese
(name an unpopular book opinion you have)
This isn’t specific to any one book – in fact, I’d say it applies to the entire world of fiction (especially YA, but I’ve seen it in plenty of adult titles, too): the “I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding” thing doesn’t bother me. I keep hearing people say it’s unrealistic, but this is a thing that a lot of people do. Frequently. Especially people with anxiety disorders. *raises hand quietly*
Also, I really don’t care if you dog-ear a book, as long as it’s your own book. Yeah, it damages the paper, but I mean… it’s YOUR BOOK. Do whatever you want with it!
brie: the favorite cheese
(name an author you always want more of)
A million names popped into my mind when I read this question, but honestly, the #1 author that I would strongly consider selling my left kidney to if she would write another YA story? Or even an adult one? Suzanne Collins.
I have this weird fantasy in my head that she’ll someday burst out of hiding and announce that she’s writing prequel novels for a ton of the Hunger Games characters (primarily Haymitch and Finnick).
gouda: the dutch cheese
(name a book that makes you want to travel)
Okay, you know what… I’m basing this off of my memories, as I haven’t read any of these books since 2008, but the Twilight Saga always desperately made me want to visit the Pacific Northwest. It sounds so lush, and gorgeous, and I still think Forks is a fantastic little setting for a story.
american: the fake cheese
(name your least favorite book/a book you love to hate on)
Oh, boy. You guys know I have a few of these, but probably the single book that I most enjoy ranting about is The Hazel Wood. If you’re new here, or somehow missed my ridiculous rant review for it, you can find it here.
colby jack: the mixed cheese
(name your favorite ship)
I know that some of my followers are not fans of this series, and to you guys, I’m so sorry that I can’t go three days without mentioning it, and thank you for putting up with my shit.
Because, I mean…
Y’ALL ALREADY KNOW IT’S GONNA BE FEYSAND boiiiii ❤❤❤❤
mozzarella: the simple cheese
(name an old favorite you’ll never stop loving)
There are a lot that could go for this one, but I’m gonna say Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. This was one of my absolute faves as a teen, and I reread it last summer, worried half to death that I would’ve outgrown it, but nah. Owen is still precious, Annabel is still relatable AF (despite she and I having NOTHING in common besides our traumas), and I still enjoy it so. damn. much.
pepperjack: the spicy cheese
(name a book you can’t judge by its cover)
Another long-time fave here: The Only Alien on the Planet. I just constantly want to climb on rooftops and scream at people about this book until they pick it up, but a surprising number of people have told me they’ve passed this book up in their library or bookstore because of its cover.
I’m actually gonna show you guys the original cover (left, floating sad boy) and the re-release cover (right, blue sad boy), because I personally like the new cover, but I know a lot of people still don’t think it’s much of an improvement. Either way, it’s an incredible story that everyone should read (review here if you’re interested!).
muenster: the monster cheese
(name a villain that you wish never had the joy of eating cheese again)
Oof, this is a tough one… there are so many villains I would happily revoke cheese-eating privileges from without a moment of remorse (and I don’t say that lightly, because, I mean, cheesiness is next to godliness. Isn’t that how the saying goes?). That said, I’m gonna go with Joffrey Baratheon, because… well, how much time do you have? 😛

March 16, 2018I’ve always wanted to visit the Pacific Northwest because of Twilight!

March 19, 2018Hahaha thank you for validating me on this because seriously, it spawned my dream of visiting!
Cait @ Paper Fury
March 16, 2018Eeee thank you for tagging me! THIS IS FUN. AND SO CHEESEY. ? *laughs at self forever* And omg let’s definitely not let Joffery have cheese ever again, although I don’t think he’s the worst villain of GoT which is saying something about how bad everyone is there. And I kind of feel bad for Susan Collins!! I wonder if the pressure was too much?! Or if she just genuinely doesn’t want to write anymore?? I can only imagine how people would rip apart her work if she came out with it now tho because she’s so famous. ??
Also I JUST ordered Obsidio. I AM READY TO HAVE MY FEELINGS RUINED (AGAIN). ??
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
March 19, 2018You’re welcome, lovely! <3 Okay, first of all, A++ pun game, 10/10, would read again. Second, no, Joffrey gets NO MORE CHEESE. EVER! I also feel kind of sorry for Suzanne Collins for the same reason – like, maybe she's just low key super stressed out by fame? Plus, like you said… people would inevitably find a reason to rip it to shreds. It would be HARD for her to outdo how beloved The Hunger Games trilogy was in its prime, I think!
YESSSSSS. Have you gotten the chance to start it yet?!

March 16, 2018Ahhh! I’m so happy you did it! And I love you answers, especially the Suzanne Collins one, because I never really think about her much anymore, but the THINGS I would do to get something else from her. After the perfection that was that trilogy? Like… yeah. That’s a really good answer. Happy reading, beautiful! ?xx
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
March 19, 2018Oh my gosh, right?! I would love so much for her to revisit those books. PLEASE. <3
Sydney @ Fire and Rain Books
March 16, 2018Oh thanks for doing the tag! I loved looking at your answers ☺️
Oh boy I really need to get my hands on Obsidio. Illuminae was an emotional roller coaster and if Obsidio is anything like it, I know I’m in for a ride. I AM JUST SO EXCITED.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
March 19, 2018Thank you, Sydney! 🙂 I had a blast doing it! Obsidio was, to be honest, probably even more emotional than Illuminae OR Gemina for me! I might be alone on that, because a lot of what’s emotional in Obsidio is related to parents and kids, or parent/child “figures”, if that makes sense? And I am just such a big sap for that sort of drama.
Sydney @ Fire and Rain Books
March 19, 2018Oh parent and kid drama always gets me. Like yes friendship and relationship make me sad but when there’s a touching moment between like a father and a daughter I get SO emotional.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
March 20, 2018Yesss, same! It always gets me. <3 In that case, you will LOVE some of the stuff in Obsidio, because Isaac Grant is just… dad #goals, for real. <3
Sydney @ Fire and Rain Books
March 20, 2018OMG I AM SO EXCITED FOR ISAAC AND KADY BUT I AM ALSO REALLY SCARED BECAUSE ONE OF THEM HAS TO DIE AND I DONT WANT IT TO BE EITHER OF THEM.

March 21, 2018No spoilers from meeeee~ <3

March 17, 2018I am also an Edgar Allan Poe fan! I even have socks with his face all over them like polka dots (poe-lka dots! 😉 haha) And I completely agree about Twilight making me want to visit the Pacific Northwest. I don’t care what people say, I loved those books!! Loved this post!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
March 19, 2018Omg, I have those socks, too, haha! Did you get those from Owlcrate? That’s where mine came from, last fall, but I know you can just buy them online, too. 😀 Thank you! <3

March 18, 2018Yeah, well, we all know already that at least one of my answers on this tag will be the same as yours.. so..
I can’t even pass up on this tag because my neighbors [like, the Netherlands] are ALL about the cheese. I can’t betray them. I just can’t. I feel obliged to drown in cheese now.
Thanks for the tag, girl! <3
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
March 19, 2018Bahahaha cheese would be the actual greatest thing to drown in, for what it’s worth. I mean… any form of drowning would be hella scary and uncomfortable, but if it’s a really good cheese? At least your belly would be happy. 😛 Any time, love <3
Kathy @ Books & Munches
March 20, 2018Cheese, chocolate.. Or if we’re in a bleh-mood, just give us some vodka to drown in. Just saying. That’d work too. xD
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
March 20, 2018OMG, yes, lmao. Vodka, my old friend… 😛
Kathy @ Books & Munches
March 22, 2018And my brain went “Darkness, my old friend..” xD
