A last-minute decision to join THE READING RUSH?! (TBR + tag)

April 16, 2020

I’m writing this post at 3am Wednesday night/Thursday morning, which means, at the time I’ve decided to join The Stay Home Reading Rush, it’s technically already 3 hours into the readathon. Whatever. MOVING ON.

The Stay Home Reading Rush…

  1. April 16th → April 19th
  2. involves 4 prompts (listed below)
  3. does not require an official sign-up
  4. you can find more info on the official twitter account here!

I had seen this floating around a bit lately and wasn’t actually going to join, but then I saw this post over at Wordy and Whimsical, and next thing you know, here we are.

1. how is your reading going while staying home?

It went pretty horribly at first. I’ve been at home for just over a month now, and didn’t read anything at all for the first 10-14 days or so! I’m not sure what has changed in the last 2 weeks, but I’ve finally managed to come to terms a bit with my terrible anxiety and depression flare-ups of late, and have re-learned how to find escapism in books, so now I’m reading like a woman on fire. Or… some other euphemism that makes more sense than that, preferably. (If I were on fire, I’d probably have more things to focus on than just books?)

2. where have you been reading at home?

I usually primarily read at my desk, which I’ve still been doing a lot of, but spending more time AWAY from my desk over the last couple of weeks has actually made me realize my desk chair is probably exacerbating my back and hip pain, like… a lot?? So, I’ve been making an effort over the last week to do as much reading as possible on the couch, or even in bed, and it’s helped tremendously. Also, because I’m back to reading a LOT, I’ve been doing a lot of listening to audiobooks while meandering around the house, or walking around tidying up with a kindle in my free hand. ?

3. what’s the best book you’ve read during isolation?

Ooooh… I don’t think I can pick just one. Just in the last 2 weeks, I’ve read Medicine Man by Saffron A. Kent and Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo, and I can’t get either of them out of my head. Plus I’m finishing up my reread of The Bone Season and it’s been even better than I remembered.

4. what’s your favorite feel-good book?

Pretty much anything by Talia Hibbert, but especially A Girl Like Her. Just… obsessed, forever, with my favorite geek girl and her sweet, tattooed hero.

5. what’s a book you wish you could buy or borrow from the library?

Probably Undercover Bromance. I just finished The Bromance Book Club a few hours ago and adored it! I do have the ebook on hold, though, but I think there’s about a 6-week wait.

6. who’s an author you want to shout out during this time?

Honestly, all the amazing romance authors who are putting up loads of freebies on the kindle store to offer entertainment, comfort, and escapism to people right now. I think it’s such an amazing thing they’re doing and I’m so proud of the romance community as a whole. ♥

7. what is your reading rush tbr? (prompt time!)

? read a book in the same room the whole time: Ghost Squad — Claribel A. Ortega

I did technically start this pre-readathon, but I only got like 20 pages into it, so I’m counting it.
