ANNOUNCEMENT: Some big blogging changes!

December 14, 2019

Today, I’m announcing a few changes that are very overdue…

Okay, dramatics aside, it’s nothing that serious. ? I’m just announcing a pretty big change to my blogging schedule!

For about a year now, I’ve been posting an average of 10-14 posts per week. Before last winter, I never double-posted, but it came about out of necessity, and I kept at it because my stats blew up overnight, which I thought = success!

The thing about “success” as a book blogger is that it looks different to everyone. One blogger might be prouder of a great month of views, while another blogger might be more keen to see their followers increase, and so on. My perception of success has definitely changed over the years, but as I’m coming up on almost three years of blogging, I’ve realized what matters most to me now is connecting with other bloggers — and double-posting makes that really difficult to do.

I posted a Twitter poll yesterday asking people how often they’d like to see me posting, and it opened up some great conversations, in which it was nearly unanimous that friends were having a hard time engaging with my content because it was simply too many posts and nobody has that much time for blog hopping!

(^ probably you guys when looking at my ridiculous over-posting lmao)

I also had a long, hard look at myself and realized that posting so much has been taxing on my mental health. I never have posts scheduled in advance, I’m frequently staying up past my bedtime to write out the next morning’s content, and seeing the lack of engagement has been really hurting my heart because, at the end of the day, I miss talking to you all! Needless to say, it was a pretty easy decision to make.

To trim down my schedule, I’ll be dropping the following weekly memes:

  • The Sunday Post (I’ll be adding some of this info to my WWW posts and sort of “merging” the two memes)
  • Stacking the Shelves (having these and a monthly haul post feels redundant, anyways)
  • TBR Lows & Highs (I know — dropping my own meme, what?! But my heart isn’t in it anymore, so instead, I’ll do one monthly post showing the new TBR additions I’m most excited about!)

Here’s my (tentative) new schedule:

MONDAY reviews
TUESDAY Top 10 Tuesday
WEDNESDAY new WWW format
THURSDAY reviews, discussions, occasional tags
FRIDAY reviews
SATURDAY mini review round-ups (“Saturday Smalls”)
SUNDAY nothing!

Hopefully all of this also means you’ll start seeing more thorough reviews, more quality content, and more blog-hopping from me! I’m so ready to get back to my blogging roots and focus on what really matters instead of mindlessly churning out as much content as possible and burning myself out. I hope you’ll all agree with me that this is for the best. ♥

What do you think about my new schedule? Let me know in the comments!

    1. I really admire your honesty in explaining why you change your schedule. I think it looks great and I wish you much fortune with the new schedule!

    1. I didn’t know you were double posting! And I second this choice to cut down on the number of posts. (How did you even manage 10-14???????? I can barely do 3) It’ll definitely cause less stress and open up more engagement per post 🙂

    1. I hope this new schedule will work great for you!

    1. Happy to hear that you have a new blogging schedule that you’re excited about! Cutting down on your number of posts totally makes sense. I hope it works for you and helps your mental health! 🙂

    1. Honestly, kudos to you for knowing yourself well enough to stop when it’s too much! I’m super excited for your future content, and I hope you have an amazing 2020! ??

    1. Love that you’re promoting discussion and that we’ll get to talk to you a lot more! To me, it just amazes me how you can put out so many posts every week but I love all the content <3

    1. I am a big fan of less quantity in favour of more quality, I think this increase in posts might reflect your previously stated feeling of not doing the higher quality content that you used to. Not that I think your quality is subpar. Anyway I have faith that you are doing what you feel is right for you and I love your blog either way! You do you!

      1. Thank you! <3 Can I just say how much I appreciate that you made your point without insulting the way my blog has been running lately? Because some of the responses I've gotten, uh... ?? But seriously, thank you for being in my corner <3

          1. Noooo, not at all, no worries! <3 I was serious - I received some replies (more so on twitter) that genuinely hurt my heart, so I was a little nervous when I started reading your comment until I remembered who I was dealing with and that I don't think you would ever say anything hurtful <3 And then it ended up not being a mean comment anyways, haha!

    1. Looks like an amazing plan for the new year! Best of luck with it and I hope it helps you make the connections, but with your mental health as well.

      Have a great day!

    1. I hope the new schedule works well for you and it decreases your stress. You have to do what’s best for you and that’s all that matters. I will read yours posts no matter how many you do but I am looking forward to what you have in store for 2020.

    1. The new schedule looks great. Love the line up you have outlined.

    1. so proud of you taking steps to make blogging easier for yourself! you have to do what you have to make it work for you. there’s no shame in that and blogging means so much to you, you don’t want to be setting yourself up for inevitable burnout and stress, you know? well, not if you can help it!

and the new schedule sounds fabulous. we’re still going to get so much content from you, it’s so exciting!! can’t wait to see everything you’ll achieve in 2020.

    1. Ahh, I’m so glad that you are taking it easy on yourself in 2020!! Our weekly posting schedules look very similar, which is funny!!
I di review posts (when I do them) on Mon, Thu and Sat, Top 5 Tues, WWW Wed, and from 2020 I’ll be doing tags on Fridays and ‘other’ posts on Sundays when I can!!

    1. I think it is a good decision for you. Blogging needs to be fun and we need to be able to get out of it what we want to get out of it. <3

    1. This seems such a good decision! I love your posts, don’t get me wrong, but I doubt reducing your posts will dramatically impact your stats, AND you’ll get more time for yourself, which is so important.

    1. Destiny you are legit magic. Like on the same level as magic as my mum, who I rate as off the charts magical! It boggles the mind how anyone can post as many times as you have weekly let alone daily all this time and still have time for all your other responsibilities…

Maybe I’m just spending too much time on youtube ?

But I’m glad you’re reassessing you’re posting schedule so you can improve your mental health and I hope a lighter workload really makes a difference for you!

    1. I wholeheartedly approve of this decision. You’ve been posting so much and although I love seeing your content, I love seeing you even more and also seeing you NOT BLOGGING (bc if you are not doing so many blogs it means you can be doing other things like spending time with your family and taking care of yourself) <3

    1. Awwww hi, Destiny!! I’ve missed ya! <3 I've been on a little hiatus for the past few months and have missed reading your posts and chatting with you so much!!! It sounds like this is a good decision for you, and I for one cannot wait to read all the posts you share in 2020! Hehe <3

      1. I’ve missed you too!! I’m catching up on comments tonight because I guess I’d had the notifs turned off on my app somehow, and hadn’t realized I had so many built up – and I was so excited to see your name in my notifications! <3 I need to catch up on my blog hopping too, clearly haha! <3

Say hello! ♥
