Tag Tuesday: the Chaotic Reading Habits tag!

September 28, 2021

Let’s talk about my Chaotic Reading Habits!

It’s been too long since I’ve done a tag, and I really love the questions in this one Bookish Luna tagged me in, so I had to do it! She creates some really incredible content and I loved her answers, so please go check out her site if you’re not already following her and show some love. ♥

🕵️‍♂️ QUESTIONS 🕵️‍♂️

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I basically just read wherever it’s convenient for me at that moment, which is usually either at my desk while I work, on the couch, or in bed! Sometimes you can also find me reading ebooks while I cook in the kitchen, or listening to audiobooks while I shower – anywhere works.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

I have a billion bookmarks scattered around the house and in mugs on my desk and bookshelves, so I typically always use those. If I’m in a pinch or have lost my bookmark, though, a scrap of paper, hair clip, or whatever else works is fine – anything to keep my place, because I am not good at remembering my page or chapter number!

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

I like stopping at the end of a chapter, but let’s be honest, I have a five-year-old who gets into shenanigans a lot. I usually leave off in the middle of a paragraph. 😂

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

Drink, yes. Eat, only if it’s something that isn’t messy or if I’m reading an ebook, because my Kindle is waterproof and can be wiped down if I spill something on it.

5. Multitasking: music or TV while reading?

Instrumental music, all day long. Music with lyrics distracts me too much most of the time. TV can be hit and miss – if it’s something I’m interested in watching, it won’t work, but if it’s like something my kid is watching or a movie I’ve seen before, I can read sometimes.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

ALWAYS several at once. In fact, Sarah just sent me this tweet yesterday and called me out: 😂

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Normally I would say a huge, resounding “EVERYWHERE!” buuut I work from home and don’t go anywhere nowadays. 😂 But when I had to leave the house a lot for medical stuff earlier this year, I always read in waiting rooms and stuff, so I guess I could still say everywhere.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Definitely in my head! Reading out loud makes me really sleepy and gives me a headache after more than a few pages – not sure why, but it has ever since childhood.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Only if a book is really dragging but I don’t want to DNF it, or if I genuinely can’t stand a character’s POV in a multi-POV book. Even then, I won’t skip whole pages, but I will skim-read to make sure I’m not missing anything important.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I prefer keeping the spines nice, not necessarily just for the look (I don’t like the look of cracked spines, but it isn’t the worst thing), but because I have had pages start falling out of paperbacks whose spines had been cracked so much it loosened the glue, and that’s really frustrating when your book becomes un-readable because it’s worn out!

11. Do you write in your books?

Not really. I tab my books a LOT, and highlight them sometimes, but I have pretty big handwriting and usually can’t fit notes in the margins anyways, so I don’t try. (And of course, all of this only happens with my own books – never a library book or a friend’s book!)

💖 TAGS 💖

I’m not sure who has done this tag already, so I’m just going to say anyone who would like to do it is tagged now! Please let me know if you do this tag so I can see your answers, because I thought these questions were unique and really fun!

    1. Fun tag! I’m the opposite with listening to music, I can’t listen to ANYTHING while I read, I like complete silence😁

    1. This is a really fun tag! Yeah I don’t mind with my book spines cracking, especially if it’s a book that I read a lot, but it does get frustrating when the pages started to fall out 🙁

    1. I love hearing what people use as bookmarks! Personally, whenever I pick a new book off my TBR, I choose a bookmark to go with it, so I don’t believe I’ve ever had to use anything too random!

And since I have an auditory processing disorder, not only are music or TV show a total NO, but even background conversation can sometimes be too distracting for me!

      1. I feel you on the auditory processing disorder struggles! I have some days that are easier than others, but there are some days where I can’t handle any TV/music/background chatter, either. ♥ It’s so frustrating sometimes. I’m sorry you have to deal with it! 🙁

Say hello! ♥
