Physical Review Copies:

* requested before my ARC ban went into effect
*** graphic novels & poetry are an exception to the ARC ban since they’re such quick reads and I don’t request many of them!
! amazon vine copies — these are sent for review but don’t require reviews

  • ! How it Feels to Float — Helena Fox (already released)
    • YA contemporary; a story about grief, mental illness, and suicidal ideation (I think)
  • ! Suffer Love — Ashley Herring Blake (already released)
    • YA contemporary; this was AHB’s debut (and it’s an allocishet romance, which is different from all of her other books). I honestly don’t have super high hopes despite loving her other books, but Vine doesn’t “require” reviews for every single book so I decided to give it a try.
  • ! We Contain Multitudes — Sarah Henstra (already released)
    • YA contemporary; a queer epistolary romance? I love books with letters, texts, emails, etc., so sign me up ♥

  • ! Love in Focus, Vol. 1 — Yoko Nogiri (already released)
    • YA romance manga; as evidenced by this week’s and last week’s Stacking posts, I basically signed up for all of the manga available on Vine because I don’t get too many opportunities to add to my personal collection <3
  • ! Quiver — Julia Watts (already released)
    • YA contemporary; this was recommended to me by someone a while back and it’s been on my radar ever since as it’s set near where I live and it has gender fluid rep as well as a character dealing with being queer in a very strict religious household
  • The Work of Art — Mimi Matthews (july 23, 2019)
    • adult historical/regency romance; this is tied for my favorite review copy of the week because I flipped out when this author emailed me asking if she could send a copy. I adored her Christmas romance A Holiday By Gaslight and I already had the ebook of this pre-ordered, but now I have this shiny new paperback and I’m so happy and can’t wait to read it ♥♥ thank you, Mimi!

Digital Review Copies:

* requested before my ARC ban went into effect
*** graphic novels & poetry are an exception to the ARC ban since they’re such quick reads and I don’t request many of them!

  • * His Hideous Heart — Dahlia Adler (september 10, 2019)
    • YA horror/fantasy anthology; this is the other title tied for my favorite review copy of the week! It’s a collection of YA authors putting their spins on Edgar Allan Poe retellings. EAP was my literary bread and butter as a very small child and still is one of my faves so I am STOKED.
  • *** Witchy — Ariel Slamet Ries (september 17, 2019)
    • YA fantasy graphic novel; just give me all the pretty witchy graphic novels, please ♥ This one tackles witch burnings and won some awards for its original Danish publication.
  • *** Mooncakes — Suzanne Walker (october 15, 2019)
    • YA fantasy graphic novel; speaking of witchy graphic novels, you’re telling me this one makes it gay and includes a bookstore?! *weeps tears of joy* I’ve been waiting for this to pop up on NG for months so I’m very very happy to have it.

  • * Remember Me — Chelsea Bobulski (august 6, 2019)
    • YA horror; I reeeaaaally liked Chelsea’s debut The Wood and flipped out a little when this was announced last summer. I think it was originally comped as “The Shining meets Titanic”? But yeah, I’ve been waiting on this way too long to have passed up on requesting it.
  • *** Garden of Ravens — Krystal Jane Ruin (august 13, 2019)
    • adult poetry; a poetry collection that “journeys through folklore, twisted tales, mental breakdowns, and depression” — well if that isn’t my whole damn aesthetic, I don’t know what is.

Kindle Purchases/Freebies:

  • Dark Places, Evil Faces Volume II — Mark Lumby
    • adult horror anthology; a few friends and beloved authors are in this lineup, and it was a kindle freebie a few days ago ?‍♀️
  • Forgotten Bones — Vivian Barz (august 1, 2019)
    • adult thriller; this is one of the Amazon Prime First Reads picks for July, and while I usually end up passing on those altogether, it looked really good. It’s a “haunting thriller” in which a local professors has visions/dreams that match up to details in a terrible murder case in their small town. It’s also the first in a series, for those of you who dig mystery/thriller series~

Physical Purchases & Gifts:

  • A Year and a Day of Everyday Witchcraft — Deborah Blake
    • adult nonfiction/craft; I’ve been focusing a lot lately on making my craft an even bigger part of my everyday life, and this sounded promising!
  • We Live Inside Your Eyes — Kealan Patrick Burke
    • adult horror short story collection; I’d been dying to buy this since it came out back in April and finally was able to justify a couple of book purchases this week, so this was the first thing I grabbed ♥
