T10T: Books I Read… But Don't Remember Much About!

January 23, 2018

TTT-Big2
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is to pick ten books that I read and/or liked, but don’t remember much about.

Having been a wee little bookdragon even in diapers, this list could feasibly be about a mile long, but I’ll limit it to ten.

1

1. Eragon – Christopher Paolini
I actually probably remember more about this book than I’m giving myself credit for, but seeing as how I read it a million and a half times as a kid, I feel like I should remember EVERYTHING!

2. Tithe – Holly Black
I remember literally nothing about this book, except that I adored it as a preteen.

3. The Beasties – William Sleator
I remember very little about this one – something about creatures living underground and performing weird surgeries on each other – but it was a fave as a preteen or teen.

4. Animorphs series – K. A. Applegate
Animorphs was seriously my life as a kid, and I remember bits and pieces of the storyline here and there, but not a lot.

5. Nightmare Hour – R. L. Stine
I don’t remember this at all. NADA.

2

6. House of Leaves – Mark Z. Danielewski
The only thing I remember about this book, from reading it a decade or so back, is that I didn’t “get it” but I liked how creeped out it made me feel.

7. The Road – Cormac McCarthy
I just remember this book making me hate the entire world for weeks.

8. Phantoms – Dean Koontz
I just remember… some kind of weird mothman villain? Maybe?

9. The Chronicles of Narnia series – C. S. Lewis
Honestly, I read this whole series twice or more as a kid, but all that I remember is the very beginning and the very end.

10. Skeleton Creek – Patrick Carman
I think this series is about some kids messing around in a haunted, abandoned factory, maybe? I just vaguely recall that the book had URLs in it that you could go to for little videos to enhance the story.

Are any of the books on my list also books that you read too long ago to remember clearly? What’s a book you wish you could remember more about?

I also can’t remember much from the Narnia series. The one that sticks out in my mind is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. A great list!

Narnia is such a pain in my butt.. I once had a GIANT book with all the stories which I loaned to my GODFATHER and I NEVER got it back. NEVER.
I don’t even have contact with my family anymore so I won’t even see it again, nope. I need to get myself a new gorgeous copy of all those stories in one monster of a book.

I really can’t remember much of Eragon, to be honest. Least of all any of the names besides Eragon lol. I read a few of the Narnia stories 2 years ago so I still remember most of those. But I can imagine if I read it as a kid I would not remember much of it years later

*hands up* I’m the same with Narnia. I feel like i should remember it more, but nope.

I’m sad I never discovered Animorphs as a child… it looks like such a great series! Great list 🙂

I can’t remember much about Eragon either and I only read it a few years ago! I don’t think I’ll be rereading it any time soon though.

I haven’t read any of these books but a few of these are definitely on my TBR 😀 I guess we have limited brain storage to remember all the bookish information 😛
I hope you get to re-read a few of them soon 😛

Okay, I could probably re-enact The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe for you if ever called upon to do so- I read that book roughly a million times as a kid. And I thought I remembered Phantoms really well, because I know I read that a few times when I was a teen…. but I’m 40 now, so nope, I really don’t remember much except that the movie version was utter crap. 😉 Bookamenesia is real!

I remember very little I read as a kid. I read tons of the pre-Goosebump R.L. Stine and my sole memory is that some guy washed his hair with Ivory soap. I reread The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as an adult and enjoyed it just as much if not more than I did when I was a kid so it does hold well with rereads!

I’ve seen the Eragon books around quite a bit today. The cover of that R.L. Stein book is terrifying – and awesome!

I still have to read House of Leaves! And I’ve read Lion Witch so many times I can’t possibly forget it…

I LOVE that you included the Animorphs series on your list! I remember those books being so awesome growing up but pretty much have no idea what they are about anymore beyond a person morphing into an animal haha!

I remember aliens called Yeerks, that were little yellow slugs that went inside people’s brains… and that the friendly alien’s name was… Axomorph, maybe? Aximillian? I think Aximillian. I know he went by Axe, lmao!

Ha! That’s way more than I remember lol!

  • Reply Cholla January 23, 2018 at 10:51 am

I really enjoyed Eragon, but it’s been so many years, that I’m afraid I don’t remember much about it either. Same for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I think I was in elementary school when I read that one. 😀
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!

Ahh, Eragon and Narnia! I don’t remember everything but the feelings never fade, those were among the first I read, so precious.

  • Reply Loretta @ The Laughing Listener January 23, 2018 at 12:27 pm

Tithe made my list too! I remember being completely fangirl obsessed with that series as a teen, but I can barely tell you anything about it. There were a lot of Faeries?? Lol. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is a good one too, it’s been ages since I read that book!

  • Reply jennielyse January 23, 2018 at 1:48 pm

Out of all The Chronicles of Narnia, I think The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the one I remember the most. But, it doesn’t mean that I remember much, lol. This is a fun topic this week, isn’t it?

    boo the road!!! booooo!
i am really biased against that book b/c i read it an awful AP Lit class, but also in that class we had to read a cormac mccarthy interview where he, like, talked about how he uses words for the way they sounded rather than their meaning (so he will use a word based on what it sounds like it means TO HIM rather than its actual meaning) and it just always made me SO MAD.
why am i ranting about this?

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries January 30, 2018 at 12:10 am

Hahaha I love this rant. <3 I loved this book as a teen, but to be honest, I loved a lot of really pretentious and dumb things as a teen, so there is a SHOCKINGLY HIGH chance that I would hate that book now.

I recall more about The Chronicle of Narnia movies than the books. I never read Eragon, but still mean to. Hope you have a great week.

Aaaah House of Leaves…I really want to read that but I’m just so intimidated by it and I have NO IDEA why?! I would ask if it’s any good but considering it’s on this list I don’t think I would get a clear answer haha!

I don’t think I can remember the exact plot of a single R.L. Stine novel. They’re all so similar that I can vaguely recall odd things that happened in a few of his books, but I wouldn’t be able to pick the right one off of a shelf!
You can see which novels I forget about here.

  • Reply Angelized1st January 23, 2018 at 10:28 pm

I’ll never forget The Road. Not only was it a bleak story, but one of the most difficult books I’ve ever read. I had to look up almost every few words. I think he was just using huge words to make reading it as difficult as the character’s journey. I hope. *shudders*

I haven’t read the entire Narnia series, just the first two books and, sadly, I remember very, very little. I am not familiar with the other books on your list, sadly. I wish I could remember more of Silmarillion. Sadly, my memories of that book are blurry at best.
