T10T: My Most "Special" Editions!

May 21, 2019

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s theme is “books I refuse to let anyone touch”, so I decided to talk about a few special editions and out-of-print versions in my collection! Some of these are monetarily valuable, while others are just personal favorites of mine. ♥

1. Nevernight (UK Hardback)

One of my most beloved special editions has to be my 1st edition UK hardback of Nevernight, which has been out of print for a while now. I actually got it just because I loved the cover so much, without knowing it would become highly sought-after, but now I’ve seen Jay talking about his attempts to get more printings done of this edition so that it’s not as hard to get, which I know is going to make a lot of people happy!

2. Strange the Dreamer (UK Hardback)

This was another one I only got because I loved the cover so much, but I didn’t expect it to become a “unicorn” of sorts! It actually went out of stock for good on bookdepository just a few weeks after I received my copy as a Christmas gift, so I got lucky!

3. Red Sister (US Hardback)

I’ve not actually checked online to see how much these go for, but every time I post a photo of my copy on IG, people tell me how envious they are, so I feel pretty special to have it (as well as the rest of the series) in hardcover!

4. The Name of the Wind (10th Anniversary Edition)

This was a gift from my spouse that almost didn’t happen! They bought me the regular edition, and 2 days after it arrived, the anniversary edition released, and we actually exchanged them because I thought the illustrations were so pretty. ?

5. Final Girls (Signed US Hardback, Limited Print)

Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant is one of my favorite authors of all time, and I love collecting her books, so I literally cried happy tears when Owl randomly found and purchased a copy of this long out of print beauty for me a few months back. ♥ It’s 1 of only 1250 that were printed, and it’s signed and numbered!

6. Kingdom of Needle and Bone (Signed US Hardback, Limited Print)

Like Final Girls, this novella is 1 of 1250 and is signed and numbered. My spouse pre-ordered this one for me and I love it! I don’t splurge on expensive books often (and these Subterranean Press novellas are $40 each while only being 150pg or less, usually), but I make an exception for these and have the next 2 releases pre-ordered, too.

7. NOS4R2 (UK Paperback, Christmasland Edition)

NOS4A2/NOS4R2 has somehow become a collectible thing for me, as I now have the US hardback, US paperback, and this Christmasland UK paperback, but this one is easily my favorite (and was the hardest to find, but I lucked up last year!).

8. The Miseducation of Cameron Post (UK Paperback, Rainbow Edition)

I don’t think this one’s out of print, but it took some finger-crossing to get because a TON of people have ordered copies with the correct ISBN, only to be sent a regular UK paperback. This one has this gorgeous rainbow striping on the edges and I love it.

9. Circe (UK Hardback, 1st Printing)

I don’t actually know if this one is hard to find, but before it released, several sources said only the 1st printings of the UK hardbacks would have this design under the jackets. No idea if they decided to keep the design for later printings, but I adore it and am so glad I grabbed a copy!

10. Vicious (UK Collector’s Edition Hardback)

This is one I had a hard time getting because I didn’t pre-order it (I pre-ordered the US re-release hardback instead), and then it went out of stock for MONTHS, and then Amazon UK literally restocked 5 copies and I grabbed one immediately. ? I think they got re-printed after a while, but I still look back pretty fondly on how long it took me to get it!

Do you have any special editions you treasure, or even a regular edition that has a sentimental story attached to it? Let me know!

    1. I love your collection!! I think mine special collection would be all of Laini Taylor’s books in Hardback i was lucky to grab them quickly.

    1. Great collection! I didn’t realize that the nevernight uk hardback was out of print. I have that haha.

    1. You have some cool books here! I ordered a first print of Sky Without Stars, and it came with two different under the jacket designs, and I think I squealed because I got the one I was hoping for.

    1. Yeah, covers can really draw a new reader into checking a book you. You have some nice covers on this list.
      My TTT.

    1. I think you and I are book collecting soul sisters? I have several of these same editions, including the Sub Press Mira Grants, Strange the Dreamer and the UK Vicious. And I think I have the UK Nevernight too, I’ll have to look around and see. (Yes I have a ton of books and don’t remember!)

      1. Haha I love it. I’m glad I’m not the only one who collects the Sub Press Mira Grants! They’re always so lovely. Do you keep yours in the plastic wrappings? I’m always tempted to, but in the end, I always cave and unwrap them because I hate how the plastic looks on my shelves. >_>

    1. Excellent list! I forgot about the fact I have a UK version of a Joe Abercrombie book. My husband devoured the first two books in his First Law series and was horribly upset that the book was out in the UK but wouldn’t be in the US for several months. Thank you, Amazon UK. LOL
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

    1. oh wow great collection!! I love that Circe edition omg, I bought it on kindle when it first came out and now I’m planning on getting the hard cover bc…it’s just so good hahah

    1. Great list! Circe is so pretty under the dust jacket. 😀 I hear such good things about Nevernight, I really need to check it out, and I love that edition of The Miseducation of Cameron Post and NOS4R2, too. That edition of The Name of the Wind is beautiful! I haven’t read it yet (I’m waiting for Rothfuss to finish the series before I dive into books so chunky!) but that is a gorgeous edition to have.

      1. Thank you! I definitely don’t blame you for waiting on Name of the Wind, I know a lot of people who don’t want to dive into that series yet! I feel bad for the people who have been waiting so long, but on the other hand, I guess I can understand why Patrick has a hard time writing right now since he said the US’ political state keeps him in such a slump. 🙁

    1. I don’t actually own any special editions *yet* but I’m waiting for the exclusive Illumicrate edition of Aurora Rising and I’ve preordered the signed, stained edges UK hardback of Darkdawn. I’m jealous of your Nevernight copy because I only have the paperback and I wanted to get the set to match Darkdawn!

      1. Oooooh kudos on grabbing the stained edges copy of Darkdawn!! I’ve got that pre-ordered, too. And I’m jealous of the Illumicrate version of AR, it’s so pretty! 😀

    1. OMG did you hear that they are re-releasing UK hardbacks for Nevernight and Godsgrave?! Kristoff has been working with HarperVoyager to make it happen since he saw a copy online for like $800. This is why we love him. (I mean, his books are pretty good too… ?)

    1. Oh my goodness, that rainbow edition of The Miseducation of Cameron Post ?? Also, I’ve been a bit awol these past few weeks because of finals, but now that I’m back this is my first time seeing your new icon, and it’s adorable!!

Say hello! ♥
