T10T: 06.06.17 — Horror TBR Highlights!

June 6, 2017

This is a weekly tag hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and this week’s challenge is 10 Books From X Genre That I’ve Recently Added To My TBR List. The idea is that you pick one genre and list 10 recent TBR additions from that genre!

For this week’s challenge, I’m choosing the horror genre! Here are 10 recent spooky additions to my TBR. They’ll be a mix of adult and YA horror, so there’s a suggestion for everyone!

I didn’t want to pick the 10 most recent, so instead, I thought I’d pick 10 semi-recent additions that sounded particularly interesting to me. For shits and giggles, I’ll also add the date that I added them to my TBR, so that you all can feel free to shame me for never making any dents in my TBR pile… heh. *sigh*

1. NOS4A2 by Joe Hill
Added to TBR Dec 28, 2016

I love Joe Hill’s writing so much, and the fact that I haven’t made my way around to reading this book yet just embarrasses me.

2. The Visible Filth by Nathan Ballingrud
Added to TBR April 6, 2017

Nathan’s anthology, North American Lake Monsters, is one of my all-time favorite horror books, and I realized a few months ago that it’s still the only book of his that I’ve picked up.

3. The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker
Added to TBR April 6, 2017

52635

I was only recently informed that the Hellraiser films are based on this novel… enough said.

4. The Women in the Walls by Amy Lukavics
Added to TBR April 7, 2017

28367592

I love a good ghost story, and one of my favorite horror tropes is watching a character’s sanity wither away from fear. This book offers both of those? Done.

5. Shutter by Courtney Alameda
Added to TBR April 7, 2017

20757532

I have this stupid obsession with ghost hunter tropes, and this book is basically about a girl who can see ghosts’ auras. Sooo, I’m sold… plus, I LOVE this cover.

6. Mary: The Summoning by Hillary Monahan
Added to TBR April 7, 2017

17661402

I loooooove urban legends, and Bloody Mary is a classic.

7. The Best of Horror Library: Volumes 1-5 edited by R.J. Cavender
Added to TBR May 7, 2017

25846642

I really wasn’t in love with the ARC I received of Vol 6 of this anthology series, buuut it’s “the best of”…

8. The Ravenous by Amy Lukavics
Added to TBR May 24, 2017

31123250

Look at that, Amy made the list twice! This book centers around a family dealing with a zombie baby sister, and that’s all I really needed to know to click “want to read” AND to send a desperately worded ARC request.

9. House of Furies by Madeleine Roux
Added to TBR May 30, 2017

29736099

I don’t know how I didn’t hear about this book sooner, but it sounds so damn good and I’m hearing such great reviews and I NEED IT.

10. The Devils You Know by M.C. Atwood
Added to TBR May 30, 2017

33830830

I just really love the cover art for this, and it sounds so exciting and fun. A group of teens on a field trip? Totally a horror movie in book format. GIMME.

As you can see, I have quite a few horror titles that I need to pick up, as all of these (except NOS4A2) are unreleased or still on my wishlist! What’s a horror book that kept you up at night?

    1. I definitely need to check out some more horror. These all look fantastic, and we all need to be scared every once in awhile.

    1. Great list! I’m really want to read Shutter! It’s amazing and the cover is stunning! Happy reading!

    1. The only book on this list that I have read is NOS4A2 by Joe Hill… It’s SO good! For me it was totally unputdownable, so make sure to pick it up on a weekend! 🙂 Have you read the Lock & Key graphic novels? Also incredible work by Joe Hill!

      1. Oooh, will do! I might have to swap it out for something in this month’s TBR, haha. I read volume 1 of Locke & Key and really enjoyed it! I definitely want to grab the other volumes.

    1. The one with the Zombie sister looks fascinating. Also “The Women in the Walls.”

        1. Unique YA books are so hard to come by in any of its genres, at least to me. It’s always fun to find the gems that stick out. Will have to add these to my Goodreads so I won’t forget their names.

    1. So many of these look deliciously creepy. That cover for The Best of Horror Library is incredibly unnerving, I’m loving it. I believe I have a Joe Hill book on my TBR but can’t think of what it is now. Do you have a recommendation? The Ravenous is going on my TBR right now.

      1. Ooh, glad you see a few you like! Yes, the Best Of cover creeped me out a little, too. I don’t get spooked easily at all, but there’s ALWAYS something that gets under my skin about featureless faces… *shiver* LOL. Oooh, anything I’ve read by him has been absolutely delightful, but my favorite is Heart Shaped Box! Horns is a good one, but not one I’d recommend for an introduction to his writing, because it’s a little bit long-winded. 20th Century Ghosts was a very easy one for me to get into – I believe it was his first book – and the Locke & Key graphic novels are fun and beautiful.

    1. Lots of those sound awesome! The Women in the Walls might be something like the short story ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’, one of my favourites, I need to check it out some more.
Also, I am a fan of the House of Furies cover, it sounds interesting as well!

    1. I don’t think I’ve read much horror. It’s a genre I tend to avoid (I’m the person who used to listen to my iPod while my friends watched scary films at sleepovers) but I read some for a module in college and they terrified me but they were good! Shutter sounds pretty interesting!

    1. Did you hear that noise? That was my TBR exploding, because jeez you’ve recommended some titles that look AMAZING. I didn’t like Amy Lukavics’ debut, but both of these titles sound much more up my street. I’m also desperate to read House of Furies and The Devil You Know… Might have to binge a bunch of horrors in October!

      1. Hahaha, I’m so glad I could add to your TBR! That’s my ultimate goal, you know – for everyone to be just as crushed under the weight of their TBR as I am by mine. Lmao. Those are precisely my plans for October!

    1. Ooooh what a great list! I don’t tend to read much horror, but I’m open to trying it out! This seems like a good place to start ahah. <3

    1. I really enjoyed Shutter and I have been eagerly awaiting her next book to come out (but has been pushed back twice now).

    1. This is an amazing list! I can’t even begin to explain how awesome it is to see someone who actually loves YA horror books as well! I have read The Women in the Walls and enjoyed it although I do have to say I loved her debut novel Daughters unto Devils a bit more, highly recommend that one!
I’m also really looking forward to reading The Devils You Know, House of Furies, The Ravenous, Mary: The Summoning, and Shutter! 🙂
