T10T: October → December 5-Star Predictions

October 1, 2019

TTT-Big2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s theme was “book titles with numbers in them”, but I’ll be veering off (as usual) because it’s time for my quarterly five-star predictions update! Every 3 months, I like to list 10 titles I plan on reading over the next 3 months that I think be will five-star reads for me. This one is especially exciting because today is the first day of my favorite month: happy October, everyone! Not only do I love the spooky fall vibes of this month, and Halloween, but it’s Libra season and ya girl is hoping for some really great reading this month as a birthday gift to myself, ha! ? ♎ (My birthday’s on the 16th, if any of my fellow October babies are wondering!)

July → September Predictions: UPDATE!

  1. Darkdawn ? currently reading & loving
  2. The Girl the Sea Gave Back ⛔ haven’t read yet
  3. Fence, Vol. 3 ? currently reading & loving
  4. Wolfsong ⛔ haven’t read yet (I started this one but put it back to save as a gift to myself after I knock out some ARCs!)
  5. Rolling in the Deep ? currently reading & loving
  6. Criminal Intentions S1E3 ⛔ haven’t read yet
  7. Dead to the World ✅ ⭐⭐⭐⭐? (4.5, but close enough for me!)
  8. Get a Life, Chloe Brown ⛔ haven’t read yet
  9. Imaginary Friend ❌ set aside for now but I was not predicting a 5-star rating by the 25% mark (where I left off)
  10. If You See Her ⛔ haven’t read yet

As you can see, I didn’t stick to my TBRs or my prediction list well AT ALL this past three months! ? Hopefully the rest of the year will be much better. ? (Come on, birthday gods…)

October → December Predictions

1. Capturing the Devil — Kerri Maniscalco

why I predict a 5-star rating:
I’ve loved this series so much and I have really high hopes that Kerri can knock this finale out of the park.

2. Get a Life, Chloe Brown — Talia Hibbert

why I predict a 5-star rating:
Naturally, this one’s going back on the list. I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Talia so far (which is almost everything she’s written!).

3. Remains — Andrew Cull

why I predict a 5-star rating:
Andy totally blew me away with his short story collection, Bones, and cemented himself as one of my favorites. If this isn’t a 5-star read, I’m probably going to assume there’s something wrong with me. ?

4. Permanent Record — Mary H.K. Choi

why I predict a 5-star rating:
I really loved Emergency Contact, but so many people have told me this one’s ten times better. I’ve seen some snippets that were LOL-worthy on their own, too, so I have a feeling it’ll have more of Choi’s classic snark I loved in her debut.

5. Better Watch Out — Willow Rose

why I predict a 5-star rating:
This is just some random horror novella I found as a freebie a while back and only one person I know has read it, so it’s not a hyped title or anything, buuuut it’s a Christmas-themed horror story, and I seriously ADORE Christmas horror stories, so I’m already feeling biased in this one’s favor!

6. Full Disclosure — Camryn Garrett

why I predict a 5-star rating:
I’m hearing so many good things about this book, it sounds incredible, and the fact that it discusses HIV+ status in teens is something I’ve never seen done in YA and I think it’s so important and needs to be talked about.

7. A Heart So Fierce and Broken — Brigid Kemmerer

why I predict a 5-star rating:
Honestly, after how much I loved A Curse So Dark and Lonely, I can’t believe I didn’t pick this up the moment my eARC approved. I’m so freaking pumped to return to this world! ?

8. The Wives — Tarryn Fisher

why I predict a 5-star rating:
I hope I don’t jinx things by listing this one, since a) I’ve only read one TF title before and b) I have a really rocky track record with thrillers (especially domestic ones), but something about this sounds SO FREAKING GOOD and I’m just stupid excited for it.

9. Crown of Oblivion — Julie Eshbaugh

why I predict a 5-star rating:
I’ve been craving another good YA dystopian “trials”-based story à la Hunger Games, and I’m hoping this one’s going to hit the spot.

10. Ninth House — Leigh Bardugo

why I predict a 5-star rating:
I’m definitely hesitant to guarantee that I’ll pick this up before the end of the year only because I know myself and how BAD I am at picking up anticipated pre-orders right away, but I love Queen Leigh and I have veeeery high hopes for her first foray into adult fiction.

Do you have any 5-star predictions for your reading plans over the next few months? Do you think I will or won’t 5-star any of mine?

    1. I am getting Failure to Communicate for my birthday and if I can get around to it in November I am so very sure it will end up being a 5 star read.

    1. I adored Rolling in the Deep and need to read its sequel. Also, I’m hoping to love The Ninth House. I also really enjoy the Sookie Stackhouse series and it’s actually one the few I’m current on.

      1. Sorry for the late reply, but I’m so glad you loved The Wives! I’m sad I haven’t gotten to it yet, but hopefully I will some time in the next week or two. I’m hoping I don’t see the end coming, either! 🙂

    1. I really love this idea! I’m predicting A Heart so Fierce and Broken to be 5 stars, and same with Ninth House, even though I am the SAME WAY with highly anticipated books. It’s like I’m just so afraid to be let down even though I’m on pins and needles for it!
