T10T: Favorite Horror Book Quotes

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s theme is favorite book quotes, but I’ve done lists like that a few times (you can click here for a post of quotes I made in Canva that I’m still pretty proud of!), so I decided to put a twist on the theme in honor of October starting this week:
my favorite horror book quotes!

I made the quote images in Canva with images from Unsplash. Feel free to borrow if you like any of them!

1. the haunting of hill house — shirley jackson

"Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone."

2. dead of winter — kealan patrick burke

"Winter came, as harsh as grief. The earth grew icy teeth; the ground froze. And snow fell away endlessly, whispering rapturously of autumn's death."

3. the devil and the deep — ellen datlow

"The sea coughed us up, but some day it’s going to reclaim us, and there’s precious little that we can do about it."

4. choking back the devil — donna lynch

"Demons come in many forms / Some with teeth and some with horns / But none so vicious as the hordes / That came to be when you were born."

5. the sorrows — jonathan janz

"Even now I wish to live, to experience any emotion, even sorrow. Dear God. I hear something in the hallway."

6. to be devoured — sara tantlinger

"What saccharine horror waits, harbored in the darkness of the woods where the vultures circle?"

7. a head full of ghosts — paul tremblay

“Are you good at keeping secrets, Merry?” “More often than not, they keep me.”

8. in the shadow of spindrift house — mira grant

"It is a graveyard for the small and a playground for the vast, as all graveyards must be, for tragedy is so often a matter of perspective."

    1. Not familiar with these books but you’ve picked some excellent creepy quotes! I especially like 1, 2, 7, & 8. Thanks for sharing. 😀

    1. I love spooky quotes like this for they are made to rattle the bones. More often than not, I perceive them with a poetic mindset which makes them more chilling. I really like these quotes, especially #2! Also, the images you choose for them were perfect. Great post!
