TBR Lows & Highs #13

November 11, 2018

The WINNER of last week’s “lows” vote was… *drumroll*

As promised, I’ll now add this book to my “top-TBR” shelf on Goodreads to remind me to read it within the next 18 months.

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
    • ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Find 5+ titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

This week’s posts:

  • Help Sarah choose which book to move to the top of her TBR!
  • Mandy has some BEAUTIFUL covers in this week’s post!
  • Katie had some great removals and additions!
  • Ari, as always, added AMAZING diverse reads!
  • Sionna added some great fantasy this week (and joined me in going over the 10-new-additions suggestion, so I’m finally not alone, heh).

I vote for Feed. I have so many feelings about that book.
Looks like you’ve added a lot of great books this week! I haven’t read that Mariana Zapata book yet, but it is so on my TBR. It is a shame my library doesn’t own more books by her!! My favorite short story in the Mercy Thompson book is about Ben who is one of my faves… I need a book about him haha.
Also I’m so excited for The Bride Test! I’m glad the author is writing more books 🙂

Haha, good feelings, I take it?!
My library doesn’t seem to have any of her books, either! I think I’ll just have to get them from the kindle store every so often. I’ve been trying to buy more ebooks and less physical books lately because my shelves are so full, but I almost always only spend about $2 or less per book – I think hers are in the $5 range, so I haven’t gotten any yet. I really am dying to read one though so maybe this week. 🙂

I vote for everyone’s an alien when you’re an alien too. ^_^ I think you’ll really enjoy it. Also, it’s a pretty quick read.

I love this meme idea so much!
Though I’m not familiar with the books on your “low”, I’ve heard good things about Poison Study!
Can’t wait to see which one “wins” next week!

  • Reply Ally Writes Things November 11, 2018 at 11:37 am

I definitely vote for Poison Study! I never continued with the series because I was happy with how the first book finished, but I loved it a lot!

  • Reply emmareadstoomuch November 11, 2018 at 11:56 am

oh lord i had to read Feed for school (i go to a very strange school) and i did not like it at allll. so long & repetitive. i think i one-starred it, which i almost NEVER do for assigned readings. bleh bleh.
also i love Gillian Flynn but Dark Places is my least favorite of her books so…wouldn’t be a heartbreaking loss imo

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 11, 2018 at 1:17 pm

Aww, sorry you didn’t like Feed! I love everything I’ve read by Seanan/Mira so far so it’s definitely one I want to check out, but it made the “low” end of my TBR just because I have so many other unread books by her and this one gets such mixed reviews that it’s not a big priority :/

  • Reply Ilsen Leon November 11, 2018 at 12:52 pm

I vote for Poison Study. I think you’ll enjoy it if you give it a chance.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 12, 2018 at 6:46 pm

Thank you! 😀 That one actually sounds the most interesting to me from the “lows” so I’m kind of happy that it seems to be winning so far.

  • Reply Kayla @ Books and Blends November 11, 2018 at 1:41 pm

OMG, I cannot wait for The Bride Test! I NEED it!
I can’t wait for you to read Enchantee, I just finished and want to talk about it!

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 12, 2018 at 6:47 pm

It sounds sooooo good! I just need it to hurry up and get here! 🙂 And I’m hoping I’ll enjoy Enchantee, I haven’t started it yet but I’ll probably pick it up soon!

      • Reply Kayla @ Books and Blends November 13, 2018 at 10:13 am

I know! The Bride Test is like my most anticapted release for 2019 besides the third book in the Caraval series.

        • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 14, 2018 at 1:05 am

That reminds me that I still need to read Legendary lol!

          • Kayla @ Books and Blends November 14, 2018 at 9:11 am

Ummm…..YES!!!!! Why haven’t you read that yet?!

          • Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 16, 2018 at 12:47 pm

I think I’m a little scared because I didn’t love the first book!! Did you?

          • Kayla @ Books and Blends November 16, 2018 at 3:28 pm

I was one of those who did enjoy Caraval lol! But I liked Legendary better.

  • Reply Loverofromance November 11, 2018 at 3:23 pm

You have so many great books on here that I want to read as well. I loved the Kiss Quotient, so I can’t wait for The Bride Test. Pennies I hear is amazing even if it deals with some darker elements. And I adore anything with Curran and Kate…so highly recommend Magic Bites.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 12, 2018 at 6:48 pm

Thank you! I am actually soooo excited to start the Kate Daniels books. I’ve never read anything at all from the authors (it’s a couple under one name, right?), but I hear so many rave reviews. I found that the introductory novella is free on their website, so I have it bookmarked to read later this week, hopefully. 🙂

I really enjoyed the Jomny Sun graphic novel. It’s warm, sweet, and full of deeper meanings.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 12, 2018 at 6:48 pm

Aww, I love to hear that. It looks really cute – even if it doesn’t win, I might have to move it up my list!

  • Reply CJR The Brit November 11, 2018 at 4:16 pm

I vote for Heart of the Fae…and if it’s good I’ll read it too!!!

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 12, 2018 at 6:49 pm

Haha, sounds good! 😀 I don’t hear many people talk about the series because it’s self-published and I don’t think it’s very well known, but the friend who recommended it to me raves about it!

      • Reply CJR The Brit November 13, 2018 at 1:21 pm

Oh you know I’m going to get it. I just can’t resist a Fae book!!

  • Reply Dani @ Perspective of a Writer November 11, 2018 at 6:40 pm

I vote for everyone’s a aliebn when ur a aliebn too … seems cute! I’m actually curious myself now! ♥️♥️ This is a neat way to do a TBR post Destiny.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 12, 2018 at 6:49 pm

It really does seem cute! Even if it doesn’t win, I might just have to pick two winners and include it too. 🙂 Thank you so much!

  • Reply devouringbooks2017 November 11, 2018 at 11:11 pm

I got a copy of Enchantee by trading an ARC on Twitter! Looks PHENOMENAL! I vote that you move up The Poison Study, it’s been recommended to me like 4 times this last month!

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 12, 2018 at 6:50 pm

Kudos on grabbing it in a trade! 😀 I hope you like it. Oh wow, that’s awesome! I feel like I never hear anyone talk about Poison Study but it’s getting a lot of votes so I’m pretty sure it’s more widely loved than I realized, lol!

      • Reply devouringbooks2017 November 12, 2018 at 8:04 pm

I hadn’t heard about it before this month either!

  • Reply Kathy @ Books & Munches November 12, 2018 at 3:52 am

Hm. I’d vote Poison Study but simply because I remember reading it years ago in Dutch and I’ve been wondering whether or not to reread them in English? :’) HELP ME OUT, haha.

  • Reply MetalPhantasmReads November 12, 2018 at 10:32 am

Daaang girl you added a lot of books to your TBR! I’m so EXCITED FOR ENCHANTEE 😀

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 12, 2018 at 6:52 pm

I always add too many, lol! Enchantee does sound really good and I’m hearing rave reviews so far!

  • Reply Taryn @ Taryn and Her Books November 13, 2018 at 2:53 am

Omg please read Poison Study!!! I read it a couple years ago and loved it– would be interested to hear your thoughts! <3

  • Reply Sarah November 20, 2018 at 11:58 am

I vote you read Dark Places! I picked it up relatively recently and enjoyed it. It was my second Gillian Flynn book and I liked it a lot more than Gone Girl.

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries November 23, 2018 at 9:42 pm

Oh, good! Gone Girl was a little bit meh for me so that makes me glad to hear you liked Dark Places a lot more. I actually hadn’t planned on reading anything else by her after GG until I got a free copy of The Grown-up in my first BOTM Club box last year and loved that.
