The WINNER of last week’s “lows” vote was… *drumroll*
LEGENDARY by Stephanie Garber!
As promised, I’ll now add this book to my “top-TBR” shelf on Goodreads to remind me to read it within the next 18 months.
Rules:
- Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
- Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
- Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
- ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Find 5+ titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
- Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
- Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
- List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)
(books that are LOW on my TBR—vote in the comments for which one I should move UP on my list and I’ll read it within 18 months!)
1. Flawed — Cecelia Ahern
2. The Forest of Hands and Teeth — Carrie Ryan
3. Paper Princess — Erin Watt
4. Monday’s Not Coming — Tiffany D. Jackson
5. Dark Lover — J. R. Ward
I, uh… only added 5 things this week? ?
1. Amber & Dusk — Lyra Selene
• YA fantasy
• this is a tentative add so I can remember to check out reviews over the next few months
2. Colder, Vol. 2 — Paul Tobin
• adult horror graphic novel
• I loved Colder, Vol. 1 and need to continue the series!
3. How Long ’til Black Future Month? — N. K. Jemisin
• adult SFF short story collection
• these stories examine a magical alternate reality revolving around topics such as post-Katrina New Orleans, a black mother in the south, and more
4. Gyo — Junji Ito
• adult horror manga
• at this point, I think I just want to read everything Junji Ito creates!
5. Aquicorn Cove — Katie O’Neill
• middle grade fantasy graphic novel
• I adored The Tea Dragon Society so much and I need more from Katie O’Neill!

Number 3! It’s basically the only book I know and it really surprised me. I wanted to stay away from that series as far as I could, but I caved in and turned out to like it!
Hahaha I hear so many people say that, that they weren’t going to read it but ended up enjoying it! Thank you Laurie!!
Oh man, I’d totally remove The Forest of Hands and Teeth which wasn’t amazing… I had to read it for a YA materials course. To move up on your list… I’d recommend Dark Lover.
I’m impressed!! Only five adds?! Aquicorn Cove is a new book at my branch that I keep staring at… it isn’t on my TBR, but I know eventually I’ll cave and check it out.
Oh noooo! I got it in a trade some time early last year because I loved one of the author’s short stories. I hope I have better luck if I ever get around to it. ? And Dark Lover sounds so good, so I’m leaning towards that one, too! Thank you!
Oh my gosh, I know, right? I think it’s just because I was off of twitter and goodreads most of the week ??? And you should check out Aquicorn Cove and let me know what you think! 😀
I went into Forest of Hands and Teeth expecting a horror, but it really… isn’t? Maybe if you go in with lower expectations than I, you’ll enjoy it more.
Getting off Twitter… yeah I really need to take a break because I keep finding future releases that pull at my heart. I might just have to check out Aquicorn Cove next week… if I read enough of the graphic novels I have out currently hahaha
Ooooh, thank you for the heads up, because I also thought it was horror! That makes me a little sad haha. 🙁
Twitter is just… a mess and a half. Are we mutuals on there? I remember looking for you while posting a tag forever ago and not finding you and assuming you weren’t on there. ?
I am on Twitter but I don’t post much 🙂 I mostly just read other people’s posts and drama haha. I’ve been thinking about changing up how I use it, but still deciding.
Paper Princess was so entertaining in the most guilty pleasure way. I didn’t love Monday’s Not Coming buy it was still an impactful & emotional read.
That’s what I keep hearing about Paper Princess haha! I’m sorry you didn’t love Monday’s Not Coming, though! I think someone gave me that in a trade so I guess at least if I don’t love it, I won’t have lost any money on it!
Oooh, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, what a throwback! Let’s see…I bought the sequel right before Borders closed, so I probably read that book, oh, at least 8 years ago. ? But sure, I’ll vote for it! Lol, all I really remember is that the zombies and apocalyptic setting depressed my preteen self when I read it. (lol sorry, that was not very encouraging, tho I’m eager to see what you think of it!)
That’s awesome haha. I miss Borders! I used to love shopping their clearance sales. ? Hahaha no you’re good, thank you for voting!
Yesss same, I will forever mourn Borders! ?
I’m gonna vote for Monday’s Not Coming, because I also need to read that book 😉
What’s that I hear? Is that… an incoming buddy read? ??
PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
I’ve heard great things about Aquicorn Cave 🙂
It sounds so cute and I loved her other book The Tea Dragon Society so much!
It does sound cute! Everyone’s been raving about it as well
Again I’m going to suggest a book I haven’t read yet but I really want to and that’s Monday’s Not Coming.
Thank you! It sounds really good, I don’t know why I keep putting it off!
There are so many books and not enough time to read them all. ?
Monday’s Not Coming — Tiffany D. Jackson, I’ve heard that was good! 🙂
Thank you! 😀
I vote for Monday’s Not Coming!
Thank you Alexa! I think that might be the one I’m secretly rooting for haha.
Definitely voting for Monday’s Not Coming!
Thank you! I hear really good things about it. 🙂
I’m so glad Legendary won!!!
I loved Paper Princess, but it was a couple of years since I read it…..I didn’t like the other books in the series as much though…..
I’ve heard a lot of people say they loved book 1 but not to continue with the series! ? I’m not sure if I’d continue after reading it after hearing such mixed reviews about the other books, but I tend to be the kind of person who has to see things for myself, so I guess if I like PP, I’d ultimately end up continuing.
PP was a great read…..May be read and see how you feel after…..but I would say don’t carry on!!!!
I’d vote for The Forest of Hands and Teeth! I’ve read it twice and still intend to continue the series at some point.
Thank you! I loved the author’s short story in Slasher Girls & Monster Boys A LOT.
I’ll be honest, I got an ARC of Amber and Dusk and just could not get into it. I ended up DNFing, but I think I’ve seen some pretty good reviews for it since. Just wasn’t for me I guess ??♀️
Oh noooo haha! I’m sorry you didn’t care for it! I honestly have a gut feeling that it’s not going to impress me much so if I do read it, it’s definitely gonna just be a library borrow.
I enjoyed Flawed, but the sequel left me meh. Thankfully, it’s only a duology, and both books are pretty short.
Oh, no! I’m sorry to hear the sequel was a letdown!
Monday’s Not Coming — Tiffany D. Jackson
Thank you for voting, Laura Beth! 🙂
flawed was awful so i’m voting for monday’s not coming (because i really need to read it myself!)
i’m also dying to get my hands on more katie o’neill after the wonder that was the tea dragon society
Oh noooo, what was awful about Flawed?
YES to Katie O’Neill, can she please just never stop writing?!
HA. My vote won anyway! Go me! [I didn’t cheat – I swear. Seriously.]
And this time I’m going with Paper Princess, simply because I remember adding it to my Goodreads once, but never.. doing something with it? Maybe if you end up raving, I’ll actually put it on my buy-list or something?
SUUUUUUURE YOU DIDN’T… >_> lmao I know. ♥
Paper Princess was SO CLOSE to winning. I think it was down by 1 vote? Maybe 2? I was shocked at how many votes I got this week because normally it’s like, less than 10 total…
Oh BOO. Well okay then. It’ll just stay stuck in the hole of “books I might someday read but who knows when” :’)
Strange things happen! I often find myself frustrated when a certain post suddenly gets more traffic than similar ones and I can’t figure out WHY.

Ooh, I hope you love Legendary, but if you have the time I recommend re-reading caraval first because there’s so many little details that are easy to forget! Either way, I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you!! I’ve actually been wondering if I should reread Caraval first so this is very good to know!
