The WINNER of last week’s “lows” vote was… *drumroll*
A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY by Libba Bray!
(Though, so many of you “anti-voted” for it that I’m a little worried now…)
As promised, I’ll now add this book to my “top-TBR” shelf on Goodreads to remind me to read it within the next 18 months.
Rules:
- Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
- Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
- Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
- ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Find 5+ titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
- Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
- Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
- List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)
(books that are LOW on my TBR—vote in the comments for which one I should move UP on my list and I’ll read it within 18 months!)
1. The Doll Collection — Ellen Datlow
2. Running With Lions — Julian Winters
3. The Storm Runner — J. C. Cervantes
4. How to Keep Rolling After a Fall — Karole Cozzo
5. Kingdom of Ash and Briars — Hannah West
Ummm… I somehow accidentally added SEVENTY books to my TBR shelf this week? So… I’m just gonna pick and choose the ones I’m most excited about. ?
1. Limbs: A Love Story — Tim Meyer (kindle unlimited)
• adult horror “romance” novella; it’s Tim so it’s sure to be twisted AF

10. The Worst is Yet to Come — S. P. Miskowski (releasing february 22nd, 2019)

11. Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune — Roselle Lim (releasing june 11th, 2019)
• adult romance with tons of Asian rep; also, Helen Hoang has been raving about it so that’s enough for me

• adult romance about a woman searching for the dream life and finding it in her favorite love-to-hate celebrity prince
14. The Takeover Effect — Nisha Sharma (releasing april 2nd, 2019)
• adult dystopian
• this was an unrequested ARC that Orbit sent me and I’m so appreciative but also super nervous because… books about dogs?!?! ? But it sounds so good so I’m pumped.
15. A Monster Like Me — Wendy S. Swore (releasing march 5th, 2019)
• semi-autobiographical MG contemporary about a girl with a blood tumor on her face, who is obsessed with monsters and compares her bullies to them

19. Nightlights — Lorena Alvarez Gomez
• MG dark fantasy graphic novel
20. The Disasters — M. K. England (owned)
• queer YA sci-fi/adventure — huge thank you to Delara/@bookwnoname (one of my all-time fave bookstagrammers) for the giveaway prize! ♥

I heard great things about The Storm Runner!! especially the disability representation and the friendships c:
Eeeexcellent! It sounds really good, I just gotta get around to getting myself a copy from the library or buying one 🙂
70? ?
Happy reading!
I wanted to cry a little when I counted. ?? thank you!
??
I vote for the Storm Runner! I had started reading it on vacation late last year and seriously loved what I read. His dog is the freaking cutest 🙂 I recently heard about Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune recently and want to give it a try. I also need to read Fake Blood!
Awww, yay! 😀 I love cute doggos in books, even though it always makes me anxious because I don’t want anything bad to happen to them haha!
That’s me too. Anything happens and I’m completely out 🙂 so far when I did read it, nothing happened but cuteness
Wow and I thought me adding 30 books was crazy! What happened last week that had us adding so many books!?
I have no idea!! I know a bunch of mine came from checking out the GR giveaways while bored one night, but otherwise…? ?♀️ Who knows!!
Storm Runner!! Anything under the RR imprint needs to be read ? and I added 15 to my TBR last wk LOL – I has a problem ?
Thank you! I do love the RR imprint 😀 hahaha at least I’m not alone!
Ok once again I haven’t read any of your low books and I haven’t heard of any of them so idk what they are about but the wheelchair on the cover of How to Keep Rolling After a Fall caught my attention so I am going to pick that one. I myself am in a wheelchair so if that has a character in a wheelchair that’s awesome.
Thank you! That is totally enough reason for your vote!! ♥ (not that you need a reason, I wouldn’t mind if you voted based on the cover for any other reason too!)
Omg, you added so many books I’m also looking forward to on your tbr this week! I’ve requested a few on netgalley, and waiting not so patiently with my fingers crossed hoping I get approved. I hope you get to your new additions soon and enjoy them!
Thank you, and good luck with your pending requests! 😀
Fake Blood was really cute! And Nightlights looks really intriguing! But I once again haven’t read any of the lows, so I can’t vote ?
Oh good! 😀 I’m glad you liked Fake Blood. And I’m catching up on comments so I can’t remember if it was you or someone else I’ve already said this to on *last* weekend’s Lows & Highs, but you can vote based on the cover or just whatever sounds interesting to you if you haven’t read the lows but still wanna vote!! I know it makes it a little less scientific but that’s okay by me. ??
I haven’t read ANY of these yet, though a lot of them look awesome. So I’m going to vote for The Doll Collection and Limbs. Because I love horror and those look terrifying.
Ash @ JennRenee Read
Thank you! 😀
I haven’t read any of the “lows,” so I can’t give my input. I just wanted to say that I think this is a really cool idea! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂 Oh and you’re more than welcome to vote just based on what interests you if you haven’t read the lows!
I vote for The Storm Runner! I still haven’t read it yet (idk why it’s not on kindle) but I’m really excited to. All the books in the Rick Riordan Presents imprint seem promising. Great post ?
Thank you! That’s so weird that it’s not on kindle but I hope it is soon 🙂
noooooo, i can’t believe a great & terrible beauty won!! i’m so interested to see your thoughts on it now but wow
i’m going to vote for the storm runner ?
*inhales* the disasters IS SO GOOD and underhyped and deserves so much more love than its getting. there’s so much poc and queer rep – bi, trans, gay – and TWO of the mcs have anxiety. the author is also such a sweetie and #ov. it’s spacey and fast-paced and absolutely glorious!! i hope you love it
I knoooow! I’ve never been mad at the results before but I was not pleased with that one ??
Oooohhhh good!! I feel like I’ve heard almost nothing about it and I didn’t know any of this so THANK YOU!
Seventy????? Destiny pls omg
I knooowwwww ??? I entered a lot of giveaways tbf
Hahah, makes sense 😉
I’ve heard amazing things about The Storm Runner and meh things about Running WIth Lions but I hope you enjoy whichever book you end up reading! ?
Oh noo, I hadn’t heard any meh things about RWL yet! I hope I don’t feel meh about it. ? Thank you, darling! ♥
[…] I may have discovered all of these from Destiny’s TBR Lows & Highs post […]
