(If you like this idea and would like to do it yourself, please feel free! I would appreciate it if you linked back to my blog so I can see your spin on the series!)
Rules:
- Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
- Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
- Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
- Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation of why you removed it
- Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
- List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)
Before we jump into my list, here are the posts from other bloggers over the last week:

Make sure you go give them some love, and feel free to join in with us on this meme!
1. The Walking — Bentley Little
Bentley Little’s writing is hit and miss for me, so I’ve gotten a little more picky about which of his works I keep on my TBR, and this synopsis about people randomly… walking… just doesn’t sound interesting to me.
2. The Supernatural Enhancements — Edgar Cantero
I bought this years ago just for the cover, but in the 4-ish years I’ve owned it, I have never once been tempted to actually read it, and that’s probably pretty telling, right?
3. Teeth — Hannah Moskowitz
I added this just because so many of my Twitter mutuals are obsessed with this author, but I’m just not interested in any of her books and it’s time that I accept that.
4. Obsidian — Jennifer L. Armentrout
I was interested in this to begin with because it’s a paranormal fantasy, but with aliens, and that’s not something you see often! Unfortunately, though, I am extremely confident that the window for me enjoying this series passed a few years ago.
5. Saga, Vol. 6 — Brian K. Vaughan
Oh god, you’re all going to hate me… sigh. The first 5 volumes were hit and miss for me. I loved some, and was bored out of my mind with others. The bottom line, though, is that it’s been almost a year since I read volume 5, and I have no motivation to read further.
1. Phoenix Unbound — Grace Draven (ARC)
I hadn’t heard of this series until a Berkley publicist offered to send me a copy earlier this month, but as soon as I read the synopsis, I was so down for it. In this society, each village must send a woman to be a human sacrifice once a year, so this witch has taken on the burden of being the sacrifice, year after year, to save other women. It’s such a unique idea for a story, and I think it’s going to be a big hit, because there’s already some pretty well-loved fanart floating around (pictured on the side here, credit to @MelieScribbles on twitter!).
2. Pestilence — Laura Thalassa (purchased)
Hi, my name is Destiny, and my aesthetic is lusting after Laura Thalassa’s books constantly, while never actually getting around to reading them. Anyways, this is a New Adult urban fantasy (I think?) series where the love interests are The Four Horsemen? I mean, why have I never seen this done before? Sign me up, please and thank you, for everything apocalyptic.
3. Priest of Bones — Peter McLean (ARC)
This is being marketed as Peaky Blinders, but with swords, and what you need to know about that is that, despite having never seen Peaky Blinders, I know myself well enough to know I will love it whenever I eventually get around to watching it, and also that this is absolutely the sort of weird grimdark shit I need in my life.
4. The Doll Collection — Ellen Datlow (purchased)
If there are three things in life I will never get tired of, they are: 1) horror anthologies, 2) creepy dolls, and 3) anything with Seanan Maguire’s name and/or face on it. (By the way, if you want to grab a copy of this for your spooky fall TBR, I got it from BookOutlet for just a few dollars last week!)
5. We Sold Our Souls — Grady Hendrix (ARC)
I owned two of Grady Hendrix’s books already and hadn’t read either of them, but do you think that stopped me from requesting an ARC of this? HA. No. Horror stories + heavy metal bands + a Satanic rehab center = cha-ching. It’s so ridiculous, it just might work.
What did you think of this week’s removals and additions? Will you be adding any of these to your TBR?

Lovely post, Destiny! I’ve had Phoenix Unbound on my tbr too. The premise sounds so interesting! ❤️
Thank you so much, lovely! It really does sound so interesting – I was honestly sold on it the second I read the synopsis!
Really great idea for a post! I need to put more effort into adding books on goodreads, then I’ll give this a go! ?
Thank you! I hope you will, it’s really fun! 😀 I get such a kick out of showing off my new TBR additions, especially because, since I’ve just added them, I know they always fit my “mood” of my reading tastes at that time!
nooo!!! Don’t count Obsidian out! It was one of my favorites!
Awww, I’m sorry love! I might give it a go some time if I am really in the mood for a throwback PNR read, it just isn’t really striking me right now 🙁
I can understand. If you ever want somebody to read it with you, I volunteer!
I just added Phoenix Unbound to my TBR! Honestly, I think that fan art is amazing and want to read the book to see what inspired such beauty!
Yaaaay, success! 😀 Yeah, if I hadn’t already had it on my TBR, that fanart would have made me add it, too!
I found the Four Horseman a little problematic but a lot of people really enjoyed it (I don’t often read romance but was swooned by the premise of this).
I have an ARC of Priest of Bones – let me know if you wanna buddy read it! xoxo
Oh no! I hope I’ll enjoy it despite that – I’ve heard a lot of people say that author’s writing in general tends to be a little sketchy at times but overall enjoyable.
I would love to buddy read Priest of Bones with you! I’ve promised the publicist I’ll have a review up on October 1st, so any time in September would work for me.
Honestly I kind of liked it even though I have some issues with it, which I don’t know what that says about me but whatever. Haha. I hope you enjoy it!
YAY YES! I will DM you to schedule the Priest of Bones buddy read!
The… Four Horsemen?! That sounds like it’s gonna be either super epic or super cringy, but I can’t say I’m not intrigued.
Honestly, based on this I think we have a pretty different taste 😀 These all sound awesome, but not really for me. Still, I hope you’ll enjoy them!
Haha, same! And it was only $1 on the kindle store so I figured, if I hate it, at least I won’t lose much!
Totally understandable! I find that my tastes are very widely varied, but lately I’m definitely in a paranormal and horror mood, so I haven’t been adding much from any other genres. Maybe we will luck up and you’ll see something that calls to you a bit more in future weeks, once I get out of this weird craving! 🙂
I own the whole Lux series (one of my major buying sprees when I first realised I was into YA) and I’ve only read books 1 & 2 but I really think the window for me enjoying the series has passed too. I still have hope though (I’m pretty sure it’s more like wishful thinking but whatever).
Oh nooo! I hate when that happens. It makes me nervous to start a series that I own every book for, because I know how much I’m gonna kick myself if I don’t like it. Thankfully, I’ve had good luck so far with it! I almost bought that whole series last January, funny enough, but for some reason I never got around to it. I’m sorry you didn’t love it, though!
I hadn’t heard of Phoenix Unbound until this post, but now it is definitely on my Goodreads list! It sounds so intriguing and that fanart! *heart eyes* Thank you for putting it on my radar and for creating such a cool meme! I may have to join up, one day. 😀
Awesome! ☺️ You’re welcome, and please do! And yeah, isn’t that fan art just everything ??
YES, I can’t get enough of it!
Oh this is a really fun idea, I love it! Obsidian is one of my favorite series ever, but I get that paranormal and going to backlist books isn’t for everyone.
I added Pestilence to my tbr a few months ago, it sounds like an amazing books, here’s hoping we both love it when we pick it up!
Thank you! I hope we both love Pestilence, too! ? and maybe I will end up giving Obsidian a try someday when I’m focusing on a lot of backlist releases!
I’d love to join in on this meme! Is it okay if I do a slight variation? I don’t have a lot I want to remove from my TBR so I was thinking for the lows, I could just highlight older stuff on my TBR that I’ve forgotten about but still want to read.
Yes, absolutely! I actually LOVE that idea! 😀 I might have to steal it from you on occasion when I don’t have anything I want to remove, haha. But yes, please go ahead!
[…] back everyone! Today I’m doing a little post that Destiny created. Every time I see her do this post I think how fun it looks and so I decided today […]
