TBR Lows & Highs #43

June 9, 2019

The WINNER of last week’s “lows” vote was… *drumroll*

THE WITCH BOY by Molly Ostertag!

As promised, I’ll now add this book to my “top-TBR” shelf on Goodreads to remind me to read it within the next 18 months.

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5 titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”) OR find 5 titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

(books that are LOW on my TBR (BUT NOT BEING REMOVED)vote in the comments for which one I should move UP on my list and I’ll read it within 18 months!)

  • When August Ends — Penelope Ward
    • adult romance; I heard this was a super emotional age gap romance, so I’m intrigued!
  • Poison or Protect — Gail Carriger
    • adult steampunk/romance; lady assassins falling in love! Does anyone know if you need to read the main series before these novellas? ?‍♀️
  • Mammoth — Jill Baguchinsky
    • YA contemporary; I’m always looking for good STEM-girl rep and good fat rep!
  • Hildafolk — Luke Pearson
    • MG fantasy GN; a coworker read these and watched the show and enjoyed it
  • Stillhouse Lake — Rachel Caine
    • adult thriller; I think Sionna raved about this and it’s on KU so I’m kind of hoping it wins ?

  • How She Likes It — Carla de Guzman
    • adult romance; this was a rec from Sionna, and looking at reviews, it looks like it features a plus-size heroine ♥
  • Your Doom Awaits You — Rich Paleschi (kindle unlimited)
    • adult horror
  • Mass Hysteria — Michael Patrick Hicks
    • adult horror/sci-fi; I love alien horror stories ?
  • Slash — Hunter Shea (october 2019)
    • adult horror
  • The Shortest Distance Between Love & Hate — Sandy Hall (august 2019)
    • YA contemporary; enemies-to-lovers!
  • The Mythic Dream — anthology (september 2019)
    • adult SFF; I am SO EXCITED for this anthology! it’s all classic myth retellings and involves some authors I love, such as Seanan McGuire & Alyssa Wong, my two all-time favorite short story authors ♥♥♥

Descriptions for all items below this point can be found in yesterday’s Stacking the Shelves post!

My vote is for Still house Lake. Not only because it’s the one you hope wins but because I also have a copy and I’m curious to see what you think!

Late reply but that’s okay! 😀 If you don’t know any of the lows you’re always welcome to just vote for something that looks or sounds interesting to you. I don’t know if I’ve told you that before, my comments are all over the place right now so if I have already said this just ignore me ?????

I read Stillhouse Lake for a group read and thought it was pretty good (‘pretty good’ as in I would read more by this author) and it sounds like you secretly want to read it too, so I will put my vote in for that!

Hildafolk looks super cute so it gets my vote! Plus, I realize I know the name Luke Pearson from Soppy, which is one of the cutest comics I’ve read!
