TBR Lows & Highs #45

June 23, 2019

The WINNER of last week’s “lows” vote was… *drumroll*

I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS by Iain Reid!

(There were actually 3 titles tied for this week’s vote, so I used a random number generator to pick the winner!)

As promised, I’ll now add this book to my “top-TBR” shelf on Goodreads to remind me to read it within the next 18 months.

Rules:

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5 titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”) OR find 5 titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

(books that are LOW on my TBR (BUT NOT BEING REMOVED)vote in the comments for which one I should move UP on my list and I’ll read it within 18 months!)

  • Lola and the Boy Next Door — Stephanie Perkins
    • YA contemporary; honestly I wasn’t a big fan of Anna and the French Kiss, but I’ve heard this one’s a lot better?
  • Senlin Ascends — Josiah Bancroft
    • adult steampunk; I actually picked this up once before but put it on hold at the 10% mark because I had a ton of review copies I wanted to focus on. This is one of those books I think I’ll adore but the hype low key terrifies me ?
  • The Lightning-Struck Heart — T.J. Klune
    • adult fantasy/romance; I have all things Klune on my TBR, unofficially, after reading Blasphemy! a while back and crying my eyes out from laughter, but as far as Klune titles on my TBR go, this is one of the lower ones.
  • Barbed Wire Heart — Tess Sharpe
    • adult thriller; a morally grey daughter of an infamous drug dealer is the MC? I thought this was a YA thriller (which I have mostly bad experiences with), so seeing this is adult actually pushed it up on my TBR a little…
  • An Extraordinary Union — Alyssa Cole
    • adult historical romance; I’m very interested in Cole’s historical books but I own so many of her contemporary romances I haven’t read yet that it’s hard to justify reading this one first — unless it wins, that is… ?

  • Untitled Panem Novel — Suzanne Collins
    • YA dystopia; all you need to know about how I feel regarding THG in this day and age is that I had to hide in the bathroom at work and cry happy tears when this was announced because it is STILL one of the most important and beloved pieces of media in my entire life
  • Kozart — J. Nathan
    • adult romance; a famous rockstar is struggling to find happiness when he meets a woman who has no idea who he is. This sounds super angsty and sweet
  • The Dragon’s Rebel — Jacqueline Rohrbach
    • adult historical fantasy romance; a former rebel leader/new king goes on a mission into enemy territory when he meets a male love slave who is believed to be cursed, but who offers to assist the new king in his task
  • End Game — Lisa Swallow
    • new adult romance; I’m always looking for more geeky and/or gamer romances so I had to add this one when Sionna mentioned it!

Lola was my least favorite of the series, but it was still cute, if that’s what you’re in the mood for.

The Lightening Struck Heart….I haven’t read it but I love the cover!!!

Oh, I thought Lola was worse than Anna. If you didn’t like Anna I would skip Lola… But still read Isla! I think she’s my favourite of the trio.
(I didn’t like Lola because while Anna toyed with the cheating trope, Lola really went there.)

I swore I had replied to this, but thank you so much for the heads up on Lola. I ended up taking it off of my TBR altogether after seeing your comment. I just don’t have time for books that glorify cheating tbh! :/ But is Isla worth picking up without having read Lola? If so, I’ll check it out!

YES!! I loved Isla, and the Lola storyline really doesn’t add anything. Except St Clair goes to the college near Anna. They both live on their own campuses, but basically spend every night together. And Anna is back working at the cinema. And St Clair ends up getting a job there because he’s cute and wants to spend more time with Anna. There, you’re all caught up!

I’ve heard such great starred reviews for Barbed wire heart that I do vote for it. I really enjoyed far from you by this author 🙂
