TBR Lows & Highs #50

July 28, 2019

The WINNER of last week’s “lows” vote was… *drumroll*

As promised, I’ll now add this book to my “top-TBR” shelf on Goodreads to remind me to read it within the next 18 months.

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5 titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”) OR find 5 titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

(books that are LOW on my TBR (BUT NOT BEING REMOVED)vote in the comments for which one I should move UP on my list and I’ll read it within 18 months!)

  • Hook Shot — Kennedy Ryan [adult romance]
    • I’m not big on sports-related romances, typically, but Talia Hibbert LOOOOOVED this book. It’s #3 in the series but I’m told you can start with any book you want.
  • Consort of Secrets — Eva Chase [adult RH paranormal romance]
    • A witch MC with lots of angst and goth vibes. Yes please! This was one of the first RH (reverse harem) titles I ever added to my TBR, all the way back in April of last year, and I STILL haven’t read a single RH title.
  • Slender Man — Anonymous [YA horror]
    • I feel like almost all of my friends who have read this hated it, and yet… and yet… I’ve loved the Slenderman mythos since I was a kid.
  • Elantris — Brandon Sanderson [adult fantasy]
    • I tried reading this a few months ago and only got a few chapters in before hitting my awful several-month-long slump I’m just now slowly crawling out of. I do wanna try this again, buuuut… when? ?‍♀️
  • Paper Butterflies — Lisa Heathfield [YA contemporary]
    • This is about a girl who’s being abused by her step-mom, and I’ve heard it’s very dark but very good.

  • The Shuddering — Ania Ahlborn [adult horror]
    • A set of twins reunite with friends for one last holiday in their family’s secluded winter cabin, only to become trapped in a blizzard that brings terrifying creatures with it.
  • Bone Crier’s Moon — Kathryn Purdie [YA fantasy]
    • Bone Criers are tasked with ferrying the dead into the afterlife, at the cost of the life of their true love.
  • When You Were Everything — Ashley Woodfolk [YA contemporary]
    • strongly believe we need more YA books about toxic and/or failed friendships (instead of just romantic relationships), which is what this is about.
      ✨ own-voice black rep! ✨

  • Read Bottom Up — Neel Shah & Skye Chatham [adult romance]
    • A love story through emails! I really love epistolary romances.
  • Team Phison — Chace Verity [adult romance]
    • Thank you to Sionna for putting this romance on my radar! Two gamer dudes falling in love, and one of them is 55 — I have such a soft spot for middle-aged MCs in romance novels. I think it’s because we don’t see it often enough and it warms my heart.
      ✨ m/m rep! ✨

Descriptions for all items below this point can be found in the latest Stacking the Shelves post!

Also totally added Consort of Secrets and Bone Crier’s Moon to my list 🙂
I still need to read Hook Shot as well, but I’m planning on reading book 2 first.

I still haven’t decided if I want to read that series in order or not! Do you think it’s necessary?
