The WINNER of last week’s “lows” vote was… *drumroll*
SHEETS by Brenna Thummler!
I actually had such a strong feeling this would win, I went ahead and put it on hold from a neighboring branch, and it’s on its way to me now. ?
As promised, I’ll now add this book to my “top-TBR” shelf on Goodreads to remind me to read it within the next 18 months.
Rules:
- Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
- Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
- Find 5 titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”) OR find 5 titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
- Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
- Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
- List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)
(books that are LOW on my TBR (BUT NOT BEING REMOVED)—vote in the comments for which one I should move UP on my list and I’ll read it within 18 months!)
- The Nightingale — Kristin Hannah [adult historical fiction]
- This has been on my TBR forever and I really want to read it, but I keep putting it off because I expect it to be so sad!
- Somewhere Only We Know — Maurene Goo [YA contemporary]
- I was super excited to get this eARC, but then the slump happened, and, well… I dunno, now it’s getting mixed reviews and I’m a little less excited. ? But I still wanna read it! (And to be fair, I did like her last book more than most of my friends did, too!)

- Mary Shelley: The Strange True Tale of Frankenstein’s Creator — Catherine Reef [YA non-fic]
- A biography of Mary Shelley’s life, pretty self-explanatory.
- Daisy Jones & the Six — Taylor Jenkins Reid [adult hist-fic]
- I have the eARC for this AND bought the audiobook, so… how have I not read it yet?
- Unwritten Law — Eden Finley [adult romance]
- A KU m/m romance about a guy who falls for his twin brother’s ex! This sounds potentially super yikes tbh, but the reviews are really good so I think it must be handled fairly well? Hopefully?

- Human Flesh — Nick Clausen [adult horror; available on KU]
- Originally a Danish short story, this is pitched as a dark winter crime horror, which sounds atmospheric and fantastic.
- The Cold — Rich Hawkins [adult horror; available on KU]
- A creature feature in a blizzard setting! … can you tell I’m really sick of summer lately? ?
- The Nightmare Room — Chris Sorensen [adult horror; available on KU]
- A haunted farmhouse with spooky, evil entities… I never get tired of haunted house stories.
- The Devilish Duke — Maddison Michaels [adult historical romance]
- A marriage-for-money situation between a man known as the “Devil Duke” and a woman who wants nothing to do with him, but will do anything to save her orphanage.
- Among the Fallen — Virginia Frances Schwartz [YA hist-fic; ARC en route]
- Based on the true story of the Tothill prison, a young woman’s memories of being abused and exploited in a Victorian workhouse as well as her new life as she finds a way to freedom.
- The Library of the Unwritten — A.J. Hackwith [adult fantasy; ARC en route]
- Claire is the head librarian of a place called the Unwritten Wing: a neutral space in Hell where unfinished stories go to reside. When the stories’ characters come to life and try to escape, it’s her job to stop them.

- Wonderland: An Anthology — edited by Marie O’Regan [adult fantasy/horror; ARC en route]
- A collection of short dark fantasy and horror stories based on the world of Alice in Wonderland! I love Alice-themed horror retellings, and I’m betting I’ll love the fantasy stories, too.
Descriptions for all items below this point can be found in the latest Stacking the Shelves post!
- Fair Game — Patricia Briggs [adult paranormal fantasy; used bookstore purchase]
- River Marked — Patricia Briggs [adult paranormal fantasy; used bookstore purchase]
- nectar — Upile Chisala [adult poetry; eARC]

Daisy Jones and the Six!! And definitely listen to the audiobook!
I would say either The Nightingale or Daisy Jones. If I had to pick just one, The Nightingale since you’ve been waiting to read that one longer.
Ooh I loved daisy Jones and the six on audio! It would not surprise me if that o e wins this week haha!

I’d love to hear what you think about Daisy Jones and the Six!
Hmm I can’t chose just one. There’s four that sound really interesting to me. So I’m going to cheat and put a vote in for all four of them. The Nightingale, Daisy Jones, the Maureen Goo one and the m/m romance. Sorry I can’t remember the titles of those last 2 even though I just read the post ??♀️
I vote Daisy Jones! I have it but like you, haven’t read yet!
I vote for Daisy Jones & the Six — Taylor Jenkins Reid! I read the eARC and gave it 5 stars but I heard the best way to experience it is through audiobook format!
Daisy Jones! But the audiobook for sure.
