TBR Lows & Highs

TBR Lows & Highs #60

October 20, 2019

The WINNER of last week’s “lows” vote was… *drumroll*

THE IRON TRIAL by Holly Black & Cassandra Clare!

As promised, I’ll now add this book to my “top-TBR” shelf on Goodreads to remind me to read it soon!

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5 titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”) OR find 5 titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

(books that are LOW on my TBR (BUT NOT BEING REMOVED)vote in the comments for which one I should move UP on my list and I’ll read it!)

  • Give the Dark My Love — Beth Revis [YA fantasy]
    • I love a good necromancy story!
  • The Replacement — Brenna Yovanoff [YA horror/fantasy]
    • I’m such a sucker for changeling-themed stories, and I’ve heard a lot of people say this author’s work is pretty dark, so I’m super keen on picking this one up… you know, eventually. 😂
  • Teeth in the Mist — Dawn Kurtagich [YA horror]
    • I somehow own all of Dawn’s books and haven’t read any of them, and I need to fix that ASAP!
  • These Witches Don’t Burn — Isabel Sterling [YA fantasy]
    • Queer contemporary witches, how have I not read this yet?
      ✨ queer rep! ✨
  • The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics — Olivia Waite [adult historical romance]
    • And more queer ladies, via historical romance, featuring star-crossed lovers: GIMME.
      ✨ f/f rep! ✨

  • Take a Hint, Dani Brown — Talia Hibbert [adult romance]
    • I’m about to start on the first book in the series, Get a Life, Chloe Brown, and I already know I’m going to need the second one when it comes out, too!
  • Seasons of the Storm — Elle Cosimano [YA fantasy]
    • A Jack Frost retelling in which he falls in love with Spring… This sounds SO unique and I’m really excited about it!

I’ll vote for These Witches Don’t Burn, because it sounds like it is going to be sooo good.
Seasons of the Storm sounds good as well, so that one I’m going to have to go look up. Thanks ;)!

It is a fun f/f witch story with nice magic system, interesting plot also there is trans rep. I love witches actually in Salem stories. Like someone above said it’s not my absolute favourite this year but it was a good and entertain and at times funny story.

Addendum: I listened to the audiobook and rather enjoyed it. I don’t know if you are an audiobook person, but it was on scribd and was well done.
