The Book Addiction Tag!

February 7, 2019

It’s time for another round of Tag Thursday! I wasn’t tagged in this one, but I nabbed it from Sam a few days ago because it was too much fun to pass up!

1) What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

If I’m in a slump, maybe… 36 hours? But under normal circumstances, probably 12-ish hours.

2) How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?

I don’t carry physical books with me unless I’m going on a road trip, or the book I’m currently reading is so unputdownable that I HAVE to take it places. That said, my kindle has a few hundred titles.

3) Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?

I’d say I keep a solid 98% or more of them.

4) How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?

At least 45 minutes, sometimes 1-2 hours?

5) How much time per day do you actually spend reading?

It completely varies from one day to another. Some days, maybe half an hour, other days, maybe 6-7 hours or more.

6) Where does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?

Hmm… usually pretty high, but it also depends on my work schedule for the day. Some days, I go in at 9, and then I don’t have time to read before work. Other days, I go in at 12 or 1, and those days, I try to read before going in!

7) How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?

Goodreads says I own 1,077 books.

8) Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?

Too often. 😂

9) What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?

I’m not sure, honestly! I know I’ve read a handful of 700+ and 800+ page books, but past that, I dunno.

10) Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds (i.e searching bookshops, online digging, etc.)?

Yes! The UK hardback of Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. After a lot of searching, I got so lucky when Nicole DMed me one day to let me know she’d found a copy at her local Half Priced Books! I’m forever grateful to her for sending it to me!

11) A book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?

There are a lot of books that fit this one… I guess the most recent one coming to mind right now is Bright We Burn by Kiersten White. I loved the first 2 books in the trilogy so much that, when the finale was a MASSIVE letdown for me, it took everything in me not to DNF it!

12) What are 3 of your main book goals for 2019?

  1. DNF more books
  2. Read what I want, when I want
  3. Less stressful reading situations (like signing myself up for too many buddy reads or taking on too many time-sensitive ARC requests)

13) Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?

Yup, I converted a few family members!

14) Describe what books mean to you in five words.

Five words are not enough. 😉

DNF more books are like a trend right now and I think it’s great, I support that. When there are so many books in the world, why you forcing yourself to finish one that you aren’t enjoying, right? 😊💕

Very true haha! It’s been neat to see so many of my friends take up a habit of DNFing more this year since it was one of my new year’s resolutions last year! I feel like the longer I keep it as one of my goals, the faster I DNF things, but I don’t regret it. 😂

Ohh I recently saw that Kristoff is in talks to publish more UK hardcovers for Nevernight!

Ouhh what a nice tag with some interresting questions!! Don’t mind me if I do steal it from you, ahah 😘

  • Reply Malka @ Paper Procrastinators February 7, 2019 at 10:55 pm

I really like this tag! It makes you think about the nitty-gritty details about your reading habits. I might steal it for our blog.
Also, 1,077 is such a big number my mind is still having trouble comprehending it!

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 18, 2019 at 1:58 am

Haha please do! 🙂 And yeah… it’s funny because it really doesn’t feel like the number should be that high!

  • Reply scrubsandbooks February 8, 2019 at 2:57 am

I have not been tagged but I might consider nabbing this to do for myself! :3

This is SUCH a fun tag!! I’ve converted a few family members to become readers as well, and it’s the most amazing feeling in the world! A goal of mine is to also DNF more books. To this day, I believe I’ve only DNF’d 3 books ever … I need to learn not to feel guilt for leaving some novels unfinished! Haha. 😂

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 18, 2019 at 2:05 am

👀 Whoa!! Only 3 DNFs ever?! That blows my mind! Haha if it makes you feel any better, sometimes I think I DNF *too* often, so maybe our friendship is just us balancing each other out! 😂💕

thank you so much for the tag, destiny! 💛
i feel like we’re so similar in our reading habits that it’ll be fun to see how much our answers match up!! i definitely don’t think i could go more than 12 hours without reading – unless i was in a reading slump?? – but i’ve gotten very good at not holding onto too many of my books anymore

  • Reply Kaleena @ Reader Voracious February 13, 2019 at 8:31 pm

What a fun tag! I can’t believe that even slumping it’s only like 36 hours before you want to pick up a book. GOALS! Speaking of goals, I also want to work on DNFing more books. Life is too short!!!

    • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 18, 2019 at 8:01 pm

Hahaha thank you! I think it’s just that I’m in such a habit of being a daily reader. In 2018, I had a chart in my bullet journal where I filled in a square for every single day of the year that I read 30+ minutes (even if it was just half an hour of listening to an audiobook). By the end of the year, I think I had filled in something like 320 squares? I had myself shook over it. 😂

      • Reply Kaleena @ Reader Voracious February 19, 2019 at 2:05 pm

That’s awesome! I have my evenings dedicated for reading but lately I’ve been struggling to want to read? It’s just unfun.

        • Reply Destiny @ Howling Libraries February 20, 2019 at 8:33 am

Oh no! 🙁 I’m sorry. I hate those days, truly. I’ve been trying to game on those days lately instead of pushing myself to read. I told a few of my coworkers yesterday that I’m trying to read less and game more this year, and they all looked at me like I’d just told them I was from Mars. 😂 That is, until they found out how much I read last year, and they were all like, “OHHH. Makes sense.”

          • Kaleena @ Reader Voracious February 20, 2019 at 10:23 am

HAHA. Yea I’ve actually been gaming instead of reading a lot more too! Which is a nice change of pace that eventually may lead to some balance.
