The Book Blogger Insider Tag

June 29, 2017

Because I have reviews and tags that are staring me down and I don’t feel like finishing any of them right now, I’m going to tell you guys a little bit about myself as a blogger today! Thanks goes to Beth at Reading Every Night for the tag!

I mean, technically she said anyone who wanted to be tagged could tag themselves… so, you know… we’ve already discussed my klepto tendencies. MOVING ON.

Where do you typically write your blog posts?

The family desktop computer is actually set up in a corner of the living room, so that’s where all of my blog posts get written, because my laptop is a POS and I can’t be bothered with trying to type an entire blog post in the WordPress app.

How long does it generally take you to write a book review?

It depends on how recently I’ve read the book and how passionate my feelings towards it are; “meh” reviews always take the longest to write. I’d say anywhere between 20-25 minutes and 2 hours.

When did you start your book blog?

My very first post was on January 9, 2017, and it was a 4-star review of Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King. It was from the time when I was still new to actually reviewing books instead of just rating them with stars, and my reviews were all still like a paragraph long.

What is the worst thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

I was originally going to say the time it consumes, but actually, I think it’s trying to figure out what my followers like and dislike. I try to focus on just doing what makes me happy as a blogger, but when you struggle with self-esteem (which I do, at times), it can be difficult not to dwell on how to write what you think people want to read, instead of what you want to write. There’s definitely a balance and I don’t always find it easily.

What is the best thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

That’s honestly a toss-up for me: it’s either the book blog community, where I’ve met so many great people, or the creative outlet that it provides. I loved writing as a teen but fell out of the habit and I’m not ready to get back into writing fiction yet, so this is a good compromise for me.

What blog post have you had the most fun writing so far?

I honestly can’t pick one. I spent an unreasonable amount of time poring over this question and sifting through my blog posts, but I just can’t.

What is your favorite type of blog post to write?

I really enjoy memes because I think it’s fun to try and put my own twist on it, and of all the memes I’ve done, Top Ten Tuesday posts are probably the most enjoyable (and most time-consuming).

When do you typically write?

Late at night, after my kiddo has gone to sleep.

Do you review every book you read?

Novels, yes. Graphic novels, maybe half. Short stories, rarely (unless it’s an anthology/collection).

How do you write your book reviews? With a cup of coffee or tea? With Netflix? Cuddled with your fur baby?

A cup of tea is usually present (mmm, spearmint black tea), but otherwise, I like as few distractions as possible.

When do you write your book reviews? Right after finishing the book? Two weeks after finishing the book?

I used to be this amazing reviewer who reviewed things within 24 hours of finishing the book. Alas, now it’s anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks after finishing it. Ideally, I’d like to get back in the habit of staying within that 24-hour window, just because I feel like my reviews are so much better if I’ve just finished the book.

How often do you post?

Lately, at least 6 days a week. I don’t sleep, clearly.

    1. Thanks for sharing! OMG this looks like fun. 🙂 Yeah, I find that it’s a lot easier to write book reviews within 24-48 hours of finishing it. When it’s still fresh in your mind you can just freely write whatever you thought of the book and not have to flick back through the book, or look back at the synopsis or at any tabs… I’ve been trying to catch up on OLD OLD books I’ve read and it is so hard to pick my brain apart. Most of the time I don’t even remember what I ate yesterday! How am I supposed to remember all the details of a book I read?!

And hahah thanks for the tag! 😉 Lol. And please, please just write however and whatever you want! This is YOUR space! You own it, you get to control what you do on it!

      1. Haha I’m so glad I’m not the only one! Oh man, I really reeeaaaally want to type up some mini-reviews on old books I’ve read, but like you said, how am I supposed to remember?! Lmao maybe someday I’ll be gifted with a Pensieve or something so I can recall up memories of the old books. 😛

    1. Fab tag, I might have to do it myself next week sometime. Totally agree about it being easier to write a book review within 24 hours of reading, but its so easy to get distracted by the next book. I have tried reviewing old books, and although satisfying is very difficult, especially if the books in question are not ones I own any more.

    1. I’m very glad you decided to take part in this tag Destiny, I loved reading your answers for this one and I love discovering more about other bloggers on WordPress as well! 😀
So many of your answers are similar to mine as well. I feel like time constraints are something everyone would say is one of the downsides of blogging, but the community makes up for it. Also I love that you added the creative outlet blogging offers you as well, that’s something I’ve never really thought much about before but now you’ve mentioned it I just know I feel the same! 🙂
I post six days a week as well, on average, and yeah I don’t get any sleep either. Well, not enough I should probably say.
Great answers for this tag, I loved reading them.

    1. I can’t post more the twice a week! It drives me insane trying to do more than two or three, so great job with posting six days a week! I also like very few distractions when I write blog posts. Otherwise I type whatever I’m hearing or make an exceptional amount of typos! Great post! 🙂

      1. Thank you! <3 Between my blog tags, memes, and reviews, I found that I couldn't get everything posted in a timely manner if I didn't make an effort to write a post a day. I definitely don't blame you for doing 2-3 a week, though! I would probably get more reading done if I did less posting, lol!

Say hello! ♥
