The Book Interview Tag!

February 14, 2019

It’s time for another round of Tag Thursday! The lovely Bex tagged me in this one last week, and it was so fun I had to add it to my schedule right away! This tag was originally co-created by Esmé & Michaela, so definitely go say hello to them (and Bex)! ♥

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST BOOK OF 2018?

HOW DID YOU LIKE IT?

It’s a very close second to Prince’s Gambit as my favorite book from one of my all-time favorite series.

WHAT WAS YOUR LAST BOOK OF 2018?

The Sea Was a Fair Master by Calvin Demmer.

HOW DID YOU LIKE IT?

It was wonderful! Calvin’s really a natural talent, and his way of working flash fiction is gorgeous and totally noteworthy, as it’s not an easy format to tell a good story in.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A BOOK/WHAT MAKES IT REALLY STAND OUT?

Immersive writing, atmospheric settings, lovable characters, and diverse rep.

DO YOU COLLECT ANY PARTICULAR SETS/EDITIONS OF BOOKS?

I have multiple editions of a few series (the Shades of Magic series & the Nevernight Chronicle series) plus bonus collector’s editions of a few random books (Throne of Glass, A Darker Shade of Magic, Six of Crows, the first Percy Jackson book).

DO YOU PREFER EBOOKS, AUDIOBOOKS, OR PHYSICAL (HARDBACK OR PAPERBACK)?

I honestly like all of the above. When it comes to physical books, I prefer hardbacks for their durability, though a big, floppy paperback is the easiest thing to read, IMO. Lately, I do a lot of my reading in bed, so ebooks have been a life-saver. I don’t get the chance to listen to audiobooks too often, but I try to utilize them whenever I can.

DO YOU KEEP BOOKS YOU DIDN’T LIKE, OR GET RID OF THEM?

It depends. If I gave it 3+ stars, I’ll pretty much always keep it. If I gave it less than 3 stars, I’ll usually just donate it, unless it’s an ARC or something a lot of people would like, in which case I’ll either trade it on twitter, host a giveaway with it, or just send it to a friend.

WHAT LITERARY CHARACTER BEST DEFINES YOU/DO YOU BEST RELATE TO?

Ooh… that’s really tough to answer because it’s like, I see myself in multiple characters in different ways. When I first read City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab, Cassidy felt 100% like preteen Destiny. When I think about The Raven Cycle series, so much of how Blue sees the world and feels about her loved ones rings home for me, too. I also related a lot to Kady Grant from The Illuminae Files, though I’m not a badass hacker, and Circe (from Madeline Miller’s Circe) with her witchcraft and the ways she views herself by the end, as well as the way she feels about her son at points. I guess I can’t really pick just one character I relate to more than all the rest.

    1. Great post! I’m really glad you enjoyed the tag.
It sounds like you put a lot of thought into that last question in particular, which I really loved – especially as, despite having written the questions myself, I really struggled to answer it, too! I absolutely adore Blue, so I can totally see why it would be easy to relate to certain aspects of her! And Bex actually sent me a copy of City of Ghosts that i’m dying to read, so I can’t wait to discover Cassidy 🙂
Loved your answer re: floppy books, btw! A genius invention, and I always find myself a little giddy when I realise a new paperback is floppy!

    1. Awesome post, Destiny! A Conjuring of Light will forever be one of my favs as well! (I may or may not had been rereading some of my favorite chapters from it just last night. Oops! ?) And I agree that ebooks are such a life saver when reading in bed! ❤️

      1. Thank you! Hahaha I don’t blame you. My copies are tabbed to hell and back, and sometimes I just open them and flip through favorite moments. ♥ Shades is just such a good series!

    1. Thank you SO much for tagging me, Destiny!, I love this tag, I think it’s ideal to get to know each other a bit more, so I’ll be doing it really soon ?
I hope you’re having an incredible reading month ?

    1. Thank you for the tag Destiny!! I’m still so freaking happy you loved Captive Prince so much?! It makes me teary-eyed when people love this series as much as me ???

Say hello! ♥
