The Bookish Baking Tag

September 10, 2020

Happy Tag Thursday, friends!

I was tagged by Luna at Bookish Luna for this one, and I was immediately so stoked to do this tag because it’s all about books and baking — two of my favorite things!

blueberry muffins - a book with the perfect beginning

22055262

I have to go with A Darker Shade of Magic for this one. This was the first book I ever picked up from V, back in 2017, and I was in love with her narrative voice from the very first line.

Kell wore a very peculiar coat.
It had neither one side, which would be conventional, nor two, which would be unexpected, but several, which was, of course, impossible.

pumpkin pie - a perfect holiday book

Fun fact: I love holiday-themed books! In fact, I have an entire “holidays-and-seasonal” shelf on Goodreads!

I think I’ll go with Dead of Winter if you’d like a spooky and atmospheric winter holiday collection…

42034959. sy475

… or if you prefer diverse and steamy, how about Mating the Huntress, a hilarious Halloween romance novella?

cinnamon rolls - a small character who must be protected

37534577. sx318

Oh, Bitty. When I talk about cinnamon roll characters, I’m often being ridiculous and talking about characters that actually would slice anyone who threatened their loves one from gut to gullet, but whom I personally find to be worthy of protecting. Not this time, though; Bitty from the Check, Please! graphic novel series is genuinely the cutest, smol-est, most delightful little gay baker boy and I love him.

lemon meringue pie - a book with total summer vibes

15393512. sy475

Honestly, can I just say anything by Sarah Dessen? Almost all of her books take place in the summertime, plus I discovered SD during a summer in my early teens and I remember re-reading every book she had published by that point multiple times over before that summer break ended. 🥰

funfetti cake - a book that makes you feel like a kid

125662

Any Goosebumps book, but especially Say Cheese and Die! This was one of the first books in the series I read, and I’ve re-read it so many times over the years. Every time I return to it, I remember how creepy and delightful it was to me as a child, and it puts me back there all over again!

chocolate chip cookes - an amazing classic

19094642

Oh, this is a tough one because I’m not big on classics! But I could never discount how much I adore Edgar Allan Poe’s work. He was the first horror author I ever read and I forever owe him my gratitude for making me love horror and poetry! My personal favorite? The Masque of the Red Death.

oatmeal raisin cookies - a book that deserves more love

First of all, I love this prompt. Oatmeal raisin cookies are delicious and deserve to be recognized as such. 😋

25785993

I think I’ll go with the Giant Days graphic novel series for this one! I don’t know too many people who talk about this series, but I adore it. It’s a new adult contemporary series about a trio of hilarious British college roommates who go through endless shenanigans, and I just think they’re so great.

angel food cake - a book that's pure air and fluff

36197404. sy475

I had to think about this one, because most of what I read is terrifying, traumatic, or at least angsty. 😂 But then I remembered Let’s Get Textual, which is fluffy, cute, funny, and features the best baby goat!

carrot cake - a book with a good message

45023611

Maybe not the most obvious choice, but let’s go with The Roommate! I loved this romance and want to yell about it forever. It talks about sex positivity, the importance of women being treated fairly and valued in relationships both emotionally and sexually, and features an insecure heroine who never lets her insecurities get in the way of recognizing how totally badass the other women in her life are.

macarons - a book that was intimidating

40857469. sy475

This one might surprise some of you, but Over and Over Again, one of my favorite romances of all time, totally intimidated me when I got the eARC of it because it’s over 700 pages long! I thought it would be way too long for a contemporary romance, but it ended up flying by (I read it in one night) and I’ve re-read it twice since then!

egg tarts - an amazing diverse book

50160619. sx318 sy475

One of the most recent diverse books I loved was You Should See Me in a Crown, a sapphic YA rom-com that features a Black queer girl as the main character, with a little brother who has sickle cell, so it also features disability rep!

banana bread - a book with a lot of hype

40381319. sy475

I decided to go with a hyped book I actually haven’t read yet: The Priory of the Orange Tree! I was already excited to read this, but I’ve been so obsessed with this author’s The Bone Season series lately that I feel like I’m going to be picking this up even sooner than I already had planned to. ♥

I’m feeling particularly lazy (sorry!) and in a hurry, so I’m just going to tag anyone who wants to participate!
