The Weekly Wrap — May 10th, 2020

May 10, 2020

For whatever reason, moving this weekly post to Sundays sounded like a good idea — I guess because, in my brain, weeks go from Sunday through Saturday, not Wednesday through Tuesday, and… oh, it doesn’t matter.

✅ recently finished:

  • The Bone Season ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐?
I finally finished my reread! It was so much better the second time around. ♥
  • Let’s Bake!: A Pusheen Cookbook
This was an eARC I had that was cute, but kind of impossible to rate because of reasons.
  • Haunted Mansion ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Very cute and sweet, though I probably wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t either 1) its target audience, or 2) a HUGE fan of MG stories.
  • Giant Days, Vol. 12 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
One of my favorite installments yet. We got a nice amount of quality McGraw content ♥
  • The Throne of Fire ⭐⭐⭐?
    “Second book syndrome” for sure…
  • Harleen ?????
100% a new favorite graphic novel of all time.
  • All Together Dead ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Soooo much better than the last installment!
  • Heavy Vinyl: Y2K-O!, Vol. 2 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
    Very cute and gay ♥

  • How Do We Relationship?, Vol. 1 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This 100% will NOT be for everyone, but I liked it.
  • The Serpent’s Shadow ⭐⭐⭐?
Well, I’m sad to say that I’m relieved this series is over.
  • Forever Theirs ❌
I realized I really liked how minimal the drama in the prequel novella was, and I wasn’t interested in the drama that this first full novel in the series was bringing about. I’ll probably pick it back up some time when I’m more in the mood for it.
  • Check, Please! Book 1: #Hockey ??????
I decided to reread this before reading Book 2 and I’m so glad I did because I had forgotten how utterly precious it is.
  • The Science of Monsters ❌
I don’t like nonfiction that reads like textbooks.
  • The Devil’s List ⭐⭐⭐
Not bad, but not my favorite of this author’s work!
  • Night of the Mannequins ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Stephen Graham Jones is so weird in the best way.
  • The Boy Who Cried Werewolf ?⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was so much fun and I highly recommend it to any Goosebumps fans!

life updates:

Ahh… this was a pretty good week. Like, substantially better than the last few weeks have been. I’ve come to learn that I need to keep my brain busy right now as much as possible, so I spent this week reading practically non-stop, rekindling friendships, working on my blog, catching up on comments, and teaching my kiddo how to play PS4 games (he’s obsessed with Goat Simulator right now lmao). I cooked a lot, cleaned a lot, and stayed away from social media (aside from Instagram), and all of that combined seemed to make for a pretty good mental health combo! My sleep schedule is in shambles, but that’s a problem to deal with some other time. ? I’m just hoping the coming week is even better, and I hope you’re all doing as well as you can be and staying safe! ♥

    1. I can’t wait to do my reread of The Bone Season. It’s a long time coming!

    1. Looks like you had quite a good week! I hope the next is just as good!

    1. I was wondering if I should read the next book in that Katee Robert series but since you said about how drama-filled it was, I might pass. I really like her books but I want the smutty and fun times. Lol

Hope you have a good week! <3

      1. Haha, same! It was just a little more drama than I was in the mood for right now. It starts off with a lot of angst and bickering, and then it cuts into a lot of political stuff… I just wasn’t feeling it right now. ?‍♀️

Thank you, dear! I hope you do, too! ♥

    1. I’m so glad you had a better week! I’ve been plowing through books left and right, and it feels so good! I have a book review scheduled for today, another for Wednesday, and possibly a third at the end of the week.

    1. Oooh, Red Sister! I have that on my shelf and keep meaning to get around to it. And The Bone Season! I read that so long ago, but never continued on with the series. Trying to decide if I should reread it and give it another try…
And glad to hear that this week was better and that you’re finding a groove that works for you! My sleep schedule also needs a bit of correcting, so I feel that. Hope ya have another great week and that you’re able to get more & better sleep! 🙂 <3

      1. Red Sister has been so good so far! I’m so mad at myself that I haven’t finished it yet, lol! I def recommend rereading TBS, though I can’t speak for the later books YET. Soon, though! Haha!

Thank you, dear, I hope you have a good (and restful) week ahead of you, too!

    1. glad to hear things are going better, Destiny! <3 i think we're on a similar trajectory, haha. i also just finished school (for the summer only, though) and am feeling much better as long as i keep myself busy with reading, cleaning, etc. it's a delicate balance because i can't guilt myself if i'm not doing things, but do better when i'm moving. it's nice that we've both found a decent equilibrium for now. 🙂

      1. Thank you, dear! I’m so glad you’re on the upswing, too. I 100% feel you on the juxtaposition of keeping busy but also not guilting yourself if you can’t – I’ve lived in that space a lot lately and it’s a hard balance to find! I’m here if you ever need anything <3 <3 <3
