It’s time for a weekly check-in!
This week was absolutely NUTS and I’m so glad the weekend is almost here! We had so many appointments (dental for me, medical for my spouse and kiddo, plus Ella got spayed — we’re all good, just exhausted!) that I barely read anything and didn’t even think about writing up any blog posts until writing this check-in last night. 😅
As of right now, I think there’s just one more thing planned for the rest of September and it’s nothing major, so I’m really hoping that we can keep it that way and just chill for the beginning of the new season. In my eyes, Autumn is meant to be a time for recharging and self-care, and I plan to do whatever I can to make that happen! 😂🤞
Like I said, this was not a very productive reading week for me. I really hoped this list would be a LOT longer this week, but with everything going on, even when I did have free time, I couldn’t concentrate enough to get much done. Ah well, hopefully next week is better for reading! Also, I’m completely wrecked by how disappointing the finale to the Souls trilogy was 😭 If you need me, I’ll be in the corner grieving lol.
- The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King // Carissa Broadbent → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Soul of a Witch // Harley Laroux → ❌ DNF ❌
📚 current reads 📚
I’m still breaking my “6 current reads at a time” rule and it is annoying me so much! 😂 But I had so many buddy reads I was excited to join, and I regret nothing, really. I’m making a commitment to get back down to 6 by next week’s check-in, though!
- Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror // Jordan Peele → 25%
- Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology // Shane Hawk & Theodore C. Van Alst Jr. → 25%
- Starling House // Alix E. Harrow → 21%
- Off Season // Jack Ketchum → 23%
- Rule of Wolves // Leigh Bardugo → 49%
- Black Sheep // Rachel Harrison → 14%
- Drowning // T.J. Newman → 16%
- How to Sell a Haunted House // Grady Hendrix → 16%
I treated myself to Fae Farm Wednesday night and I’m already obsessed with it! 😍 It’s so freaking cute, surprisingly amusing, and the gameplay is REALLY smooth and features a ton of quality-of-life elements that I wish more farm sims would include (like the game’s ability to auto-switch your tools based on what you interact with).
Feel free to friend me on Letterboxd if you wanna see my movie mini reviews!
What are you reading right now, or what did you recently finish? Is anything exciting happening in your life? Let me know in the comments!
